453 people don't like this???
More proof the world is ready to implode.
This song is 35 yrs old in 2020.... Still fresh as a box of wetwipes.
453 SAD MORONS !!!!!
I'm almost 50 and I found my sons wetwipes. Let's just say they are no longer "moist". But still, this rendition is timeless :D
Got that right Steffan. there is a live recording from 1986 that will blow your mind
Anyone who thumbs down this tune needs a double tap.
Unfortunately there are folk who sit on the sofa all day in their Y fronts and in between knocking one out they go onto TH-cam videos just to give everything a thumbs down. Best thing to do is to take no notice of the saddos.
This song can singlehandedly change the course of my day
its my pump up song before a meeting
That small crowd were the luckiest people on the planet and he says' Thank you very much, thank you kindly'. How humble Ian.
I listen to this All the time. Its sweet!
It’s John Varvatos’s place in the old CBGB!
@@Andylicios57 hey thanks for that . looked it up.
This concert was shot in George Stroumboulopoulos’ basement during House of Strombo in Toronto
And they ain’t Rockin
This still blows the bollocks off most of the music that's produced these days.
Andrew Campfield - doesn’t it just..pure f*cking awesomeness !
This is one of the best songs ever recorded in history... at least top 100 in my book.
Andrew Campfield: indeed it does!!
Always had it.... always will. 😎
Indeed Andrew how many bands still stick around after 35 years ?
Anyone here selling sanctuary in 2024?
Always❤❤❤❤
You bet!!!
My house is pink and little and lined with cedar chips if like Timothy hay as a major food source

Never too old my fellow baby boomer! Lol
Bad ass. I play this at least 3 times a day...for 30 years
It's the kind of song that you NEVER tire of, isn't it? GREAT to see these guys still at the top of their game....
Wow! You’ve heard this song 32,857.5 times!
I still get an adrenalin rush everytime they fire this classic up. What a great song. What a set of pipes.
I asked my wife to buy me a Cult CD she came home with a Cure CD. We’re divorced now.
😂
The 90's want that joke back. Doesn't really work in this day.
lol I love it

@@AaronPlowman-qn1px bud he says 🙄🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is an absolutely timeless song…. I can’t stop playing it🎶❤👀
One of the best bands in the history of rock and roll. No question about it, they are also most under appreciated! I love the Cult. They understand real rock and roll.
Pless one og the best i got 1000 others M. TH-cam mix
They were good but I can name 100 bands that were better

Hi I Recommend an indie Rock song and video called 'The Bond Villain' by Robert Nix
That's a bold statement but I won't argue it. They're one of my favorite but not in my top 19. That's a high bar. To be in someone's top ten. I do like and appreciate Billy Duffy's guitar playing.
One of the greatest rock riffs of all time!!! The moment You hear it..You wanna crank up the volume and drive fast!! Thanks Ian for the memories!
Thanks Billy too
And for the speeding tickets on sunny days! Lol
He's still alive...
Nahhhh, I turn on my amp pick up a guitar and jam along ... it's louder that way :/
Between this and Firewoman I’m lucky to be alive 😂
Definitely not recommended for driving 😎
Never listen to this in the car, all insurance policies have a “no sanctuary “ clause.
Haha love it
That's the beauty, they don't. I checked!!

Imagine cult playing sanctuary in your living room, cause that’s what it looks like!!! Have a few friends over for a few cocktail’s and then say “ oh by the way, I got THE CULT to swing by to jam a few songs in my living room”!!!!!!!!!! Lool. I want that persons life!!!!
Still listening from 1989....and now i m 50 years old!!! Rock n roll never die❤️

35 years has yet to take it's toll!
All I can say whenever I hear this ditty is....
*FUCK YEAH!!!*
*TURN IT UP!!!*
Damn - hearing them play this live never ever gets old. A true classic that’s timeless.
My wife and I saw them live at the paramount theater in Seattle in 1989, they were so loud that my ears rang for 3 days after, my wife suffered some permanent hearing loss.
Soo worth it, lol.
@@sureimhappy saw them from front row in Houston in '94. Killer show.
I was there in the 80's....I was a Goth and a new romantic. The Cult was and still is my favourite band. Ian's voice is still as amazing as it always has been! The Cult's music is dynamite and still way beyond so much junk that is made now. The 80's gave us some of the best bands there has ever been..... for me The Cult led the battle!
Where did you go to university?
what's you other CULT favourites ?
@@MichaelFlynn0Lil Devil, Love Removal Machine, Fire Woman.
Same bro gretings from Mexico
I'm so happy that Ian can still sing. They sound spectacular.
i'm 61, absolutely no-one & nothing, but when I hear this song, I would give both my testicles to have that much talent & creativity, that much faith & belief. Most of us would not really know just how much work these guys put in, to make it look easy. the choice of guitar alone, the perfect tuning of the drums, the bass line, the coolest sunglasses to, that uber cool hat!!!! Rock stars, real rock stars.
I am 54, feeling the same. These guys are such an energy inside our souls!
I thank God every day I was brought up in this era of music
The Cult , the Cure ...etc
What a voice!
How many today’s stars could sing live like this and sound better than on record.
bill gibbons
Saw these guys last month in Indianapolis
They still sound better than on record
Fucking fantastic
That's because they never wasted time on insta , fb and in the gym . All they ever did was pure music.
Fuck all that's how many
bill gibbons And there are NO songs today that can fire you up like this.
Is it coincidence that they’re played in all the hockey arenas?
Wayne Hussey also.
Voices to remember. What an era.
Today is tosh by comparison.
One of the most underrated bands, one of the best songs ever.
No, it is NOT! More than 8,1 millions views for this clip ONLY!
I'm over 70 and this definitely rocks
Agree. Thanks Tony
We've seen the best!
One of the most underrated guitar players of modern times. So many great riffs and that unmistakable tone.
Transported back to my youth in the best way!
This spontaneous version is amazing! The clear sound adds to it!
Good Lord!! I just can't get over this Live rendition!
The Cult is the most underrated Rock Band in the World. Awesome
they are indeed just awesome!
Must be an incredible feeling playing this good as a band in such a small space.
I could cry that I wasnt there to watch utter brilliance.
that Duffy sound... man owns his own unique sound, rare talent that, as soon as you hear the note, you know its him..
He's brilliant really.
One of the most underated guitarist.
Um estilo diferente mas muito bom a roça e o comercial
Semi-Hollow bodies and Boss Chorus pedal. Its a Manchester thing.
No one makes a gretch sound as good as Billy Duffy 👍

Absolutely brilliant!!! Such energy after all these years, tingles down your spine, music will never be this good again sadly............
The Cult just kick ass! This song never gets old. Solid!
none of my words can do justice to the impact this band has had on my life growing up in the 80's. To this day, their songs rock, they rock, and I am thankful that they have performed together for so many years. I hope I get to see them perform again.
Saw them in Nottingham when I was sixteen, I am 51 now, they still make my hair stand on end.Thank you the band.
Saw them at nec when I was 17/18. Must have been 84/85
That guitar tone! Killer!
Was a nighttime cabdriver for 17 years and this was definitely on the hit list, blasting it for the party people 🎤😎🎸
Good God this sent chills down my body, in a great way! Ian still has it, and my heart started pumping after he belted every vocal! I'm 38 and it doesn't take a certain age demographic to enjoy The Cult and their music! Rock on! 🤘
Just saw them in Las Vegas and it was absolutely incredible!! They killed it!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I think The Cult are probably the most underrated band ever.
The Smithereens are on Line One…

Lou Reed, intro to Sweet Jane live Transformer
One of the best performers in ALL of rock and roll... vocals? Brutal... and they still tour.. wish I could have been there for this! Wicked!
saw them live in Toronto in like 1990? And Ian yelled at the Crowd for not being into it enough and walked off and refused an encore!
@@Mikee22ification The crowd makes the show. Always has, always will.

Thank you The Cult for the keeping us so many years alive

It’s still a banging tune and Ian Astbury hasn’t lost any of his touch and Billy Duffy’s guitar work sends shivers up the spine
Best song of the 80’s and it’s still great today! What a track!

Música espetacular.
I have always been a huge CULT fan, their music just simply Kicks ASS.I met all of them after a show in Denver. They were all really friendly and cool.Thats what I like about a band, they jam and treat their fans very well.Kudos to the Cult.
Bill, hi I'm Aubrey. I was at that show ,( opening for The Pretenders?? Not sure..) but pretty sure I remember meeting YOU, actually, as my friend , Michette, and were back stage, as well! To the best music days EVER!!
The other to add on top of the great performance by The Cult is the audio recording of this. The professional audio engineers at the CBC do awesome work, I've listened to many of the CBC videos and have never been disappointed. They always bring their A game, so it's great to see them teamed with The Cult to make this phenomenal video for us fans. Kudos.
Absolutely agree, one of the most underrated BadAss Rock Bands Ever!!!👍

Re_ lives memories ,how music is so important to emotion,
Used to work with these dudes. This song always brings a tear to my eyes. Such a well-crafted song...., timeless....
Lucky you, man.
Are you a sound engineer or something?
Wow! You are literally a Rocket Scientist for Virgin? Are you also a musician? Cheers from San Diego sir.
@@bongdonkey LOL! No, I worked for Virgin until they closed the doors. Cheer Mate.
@@bongdonkey No man. I worked for a company called, GOLDENVOICE many years ago. We did a lot of shows with THE CULT back in the day. I did all around duties - helped to load in, set up lighting, sound etc. provided stage security, green room security. I was very young, a young man's dream - working with bands that you listened to. The Cult were so cool. Like friends from across the pond. They were very down to earth when I interacted with them. Good Lads....
Saw them last year in Vegas. They looked and sounded just like this...top of their game!! After the concert, Ian and Billy remained on stage and joked with the crowd. They also thanked everyone for coming out and supporting them multiple times because they knew how much was going on in Vegas every night. Ian quipped at the beginning, “You have made the RIGHT entertainment choice tonight!”. Boy, did we ever!!
I saw them as a kid in 85 Birmingham UK. Now I'm going to see them again in Halifax UK
Pow, and just like that, I'm back with my wife in 1985 before making this our song, memories. RIP Babe.

At 51 years of age in 2024, Ian and Billy are easily still in my Top 5 all time. So underrated.
When I’m stuck in rush hour traffic, guess what everyone around me is listening to?
Loved them in the 80’s and appreciate them even more now! Long live The Cult, long live rock!
My GOD do I wish we could see a performance like this up close right now.
You'd actually have to buy a ticket and pay for your music... don't see that happening.
Come back to this every so often. Can only "like" it once...
Wow….I can’t even imagine what it would be like to just kinda wonder into a tiny club and find The Cult on stage playing this song. I think I would literally just melt down.
I feel so lucky to have saw them live back in the 90's Would love to catch a show again.
I saw them at the paramount theater in Seattle in 1989, they were so loud that my ears were ringing for 3 days after, my wife’s hearing never fully recovered, lol.
GET OUT OF TOWN.... still got it, Ian... so good... what a Monster Vibe!!!!!!!! This is sound Rocks Hard and it is our... Sanctuary. Thank you Cult, one and all.
I defy anyone to not be exhilarated by this scintillating performance- utterly amazing.
the absolute BEST version of this song...!!
Bad ass rock 'n roll. I'm 72, so I kind of missed them by 20 yrs, but I'm listening now and trying tofigure who in my band could sing this , 'cause I sure as hell want to jam it out!

One of the best songs ever written. 80's Indie/Alternative was the greatest. Breaking away from the Prog Rock, American Cock Rock. Superb gigs every week. It made us feel alive!

One of the best nights of my life was spent partying with The Cult. It was my 21st birthday 31 years ago and we were at Pine Knob in Michigan. Metallica were the headliner and played a two hour set. I got to get smashed with The Cult backstage. Excellent
I saw them on that tour in Cleveland Ohio and they were Awesome!!! How did you get backstage to party with them??
you lucky bastard
I'm jealous I love the cult!!
Now thats a memory🎉
Saw the live last night and they are still AMAZING!!!!!!
The cult classic that will never grow old , it’s a song that pulls you in and gets ya pumped up. It’s great dam music , and one of my personal favorites from these guys. Still cranking it in 2020
I first heard “Sanctuary” tripping my ass off on the dance floor of the infamous jet set nightclub, Starck in Dallas, Texas. I never quite got over it...
This song appeared in the mid 80s, as a pure kick ass rock anthem, but it still stormed the dance floors of new wave clubs, because it is so fucking good. And it’s still utterly timeless and fresh. Pure anthem.
sounds a happy trip

One of the best songs written performed perfectly by one of the best bands ever..... Sometimes I wonder if I'm their biggest fans....
This live version was recorded over 3 decades after this song’s original release yet they sound better than F’ng ever and are still rocking hard as hell. F’ yeah!
The CULT = Timeless, Classic, Unique, and F’ng Hard Core.

Vocals are awful. The band are ok.
Vocals are absolutly horrible
British rock music at it's best. We ruled music in the 70's and 80's. These lads from Bradford were up amongst the best. This is a classic song with some amazing guitar riffing and vocals to go along with all their other hits like 'Rain" and Li'l Devil. Awesome song writing skills.
I do love brit rock, I do; yet they are Canadians, perfect music as well
let`s love Canada for that powerful lyrics and rythms!
I seriously miss those beautiful step dance moves that the original video recording had. It is such a signature move if a singer can have that. Also, on Here Comes The Rain, I have yet to see more on the spot sensuous dance moves!
Holy hell. How absolutely fantastic. Love it.
