Sun King lyrics
This is where it all ends
And the kinda dream that you've never seen
Well, yeah
Hot damn, ooh, mercy ma'am
What the hell you doing to me?
Ah, strutting round with your head held high
What you trying to prove, girl?
Black haired missy
Big brown eyes
On my knees, mama please
I'm a regal man
I'll do what I can
To take you off to the promised land
I'm a sun king, baby
Let me take you by the hand
Sun king, honey
We can rule across the land
I'm a sun king, baby
With you, I'll share my throne
A sun king, honey
I can't make it on my own, no
Hey, look out, little missy's about
Ripping up the town, well
Honey, I can't tie you down
Woman, you make me frown
Long legged lady with a black dress on
On my knees, mama please
I'm a regal man
I'll do what I can
To t-t-take you to the promised land
A sun king, baby
Let me take you by the hand
Yeah, sun king, honey
We can rule across this land
I'm a sun king, baby, baby
With you, I'll share my throne
A sun king, honey
I can't make it on my own, well
Well step back you sinners
Step back
Looking good now,yeah
Feelings real good now
Oww,now check this out one time
Oh yeah
Let me tell you people
Now, listen good
City crawling like a tired dog, yeah
Cult children in the house of the dawn, well
Time was wasted 'cause it's gone too fast
Time was wasted 'cause it's gone too fast
I see the sun begin to shine
I see the sun begin to shine
Sun king, baby yeah, oww
Let me take you by the hand
Oh, sun king, honey
We can rule across the land
I'm a sun king, baby, yeah yeah
With you, I'll share my throne
Sun king, honey
I can't make it on my own, well
Whoa Whoa Whoa Yeah
Whoa Whoa Whoa
I'm a sun king baby yeah
x 2 Whoa Whoa Whoa
Whoa Whoa Whoa, yeah yeah
Sun king
Wow,c'mon now
Sun king, baby...

Sun king baby, let me take you by the hand. Nobody writes songs like this anymore. The Cult still reigns in 2024.
N 4ever.
Brilliant band
@@user-ry1jm9hw6wbest band ever, gnr second
This album is a true classic.
Un disco pazzesco, comprato nel 89 il vinile e ripreso nel 21 il cd ❤️😍
I saw them on this tour, they opened for Metallica and blew them away! 🙂
Undisputed! You'll get no argument from me Johnny Ringo!
@@paoloamici7944 ONE OF THEE VERY SPECIAL RECORDS EVER CUT THERS NO DIG IT NO BAND WITH THE MOJO SPRITIUAL VALUES AS THE CULTS SONIC TEMPLE
@@paoloamici7944 grandi the cult album love un disco fenomenale
Sonic Temple was my first exposure to The Cult. Here in 2024 at 62 I still crank this album especially when I am feeling feisty. Music today is nothing like this. Rock on 💪
Sonic Temple was and is an absolute classic album. All killer no filler. Great band!
Had it in my truck for over a year in the player
Word...
One of the best albums ever put together- I totally agree
If you’ve never seen them live it’s a religious experience! Truly amazing. They should be in the R&R Hall of Fame. Criminally underrated
When I was young, I often saw them live
The R&R Hall of Shame has so many rappers to induct first. 😉
How old are you ?@@sjdjjsjsjs3991
Billy Duffy`s tone is killer. My fave Cult tune!
By far The Cult remains one of my most favorite bands of all time!
This song fucking kicks ass! No one does hard rock like this anymore. Love this entire album.
They were so bad ass back in the day. Love the Cult. This is when real music existed. Not this new wave rap and crap we have now days.
The cult music will last 4ever!!
Awesome song leading off the great Sonic Temple album.
It's always been difficult to place The Cult, sometimes their rich woven musical tapestry reminds of The Cure, at times, their rhythm and anthem like lyrics of a classic hard rock legend. . . . But if there is one thing that no one can deny is the richness and power of their music--legends.
Indeed ! Unique !
This song made my 1989 1.3 Escort drive like a 1.6. It’s that good.

Hell yeah! That’s what I learned on and jammed to this in! HELL YEAH!!!
This really is a wonderful piece of music. Still to this day.
What are you talking about? This rocks!
Still remember the 1st time I heard this song - I'd just bought Sonic Temple on cassette and slipped it into my walkman as I was waiting for the bus home. Blown Away....
Such a SEXY singer! Loved them then and still love them! Many good crazy nights listening to this album. Wish I had those years back again!
I think they call this rock'n'roll !! At it's finest I'd say! ;- )
I would too❤pure fucking rock
First track off of a KILLER record.
Sadly went down hill after this.Awesome live.Still listen to them to this day,
I cant believe how much i love the cult in 2020!! Im 48yr old lived thru there hay days!! Even seen them live it took me all these yrs to realize i love the fuckin cult!!!! Cant ask for more perfect music!!
Just found out about The cult recently. As a rock fan i cant believe i've never heard of them. Absolutely amazing songs!
Awesome band. Every album is great and unique.
@@theFINNISHmonster1 You're not the only one!! I introduced The Cult to most of my friends....its like how have you never heard of them lol?!?! Started listening at 18, now 30 years later they still dominate my playlists!!👍
Yip great band, seen them in 1985 as a youngster, the Love tour and it took me till 2019 to see them again .didnt disappoint just couldna bounce so much.
Where did you see them live ? That is my dream for over 25 years. I bet it was a great show too.
The most hansome singer ever ♥️,looks like Cherokee Indian.
My favorite album
A great song with an absolutely epic intro.
Hitting the Repeat is sooo Satisfying ~ hearing & watching Ian Perform 😎 SunKing! I need a release... Anyone With Me During Lockdown 2020???
Yes but I'm from the year 3000. Help!
Probably the most underrated Rock Band of all time. Ian Astbury was a kick ass front man.
I just said that to my wife earlier today
Is a kick ass front man 🙂
agreed!
I saw Ian Astbury on vocals for The Doors 21st Century in '03. I always felt like The Cult and The Doors kindred spirits and my two favorite bands of all time.
Not a singer but always thought Ian was a Morrison clone, in a good way.
Gutted I wanted to see that tour, I felt that too.
One of the best opening songs on an album, ever.
Damn, this song absolutely rocks. What an opener to Sonic Temple.
This song simply kicks ass from start to finish!
I remember when this first came out. The world was a much better place to live and rock n roll was still king
This was heavy rock at its best, a masterpiece 😍🤘🇬🇧😍🤘🇬🇧
These guys were a embraced by the batcave and punk back in the day before the metal heads...at least that's how I remember it
This was the album back then best summer of being a teenager
Brings back the memories of driving with these guys cranked windows down mullet flowing with the breeze.
Killer band I've loved em since I first heard them
Such a great band........I saw Ian Ashbury in The Doors 2000 back in the day........He is one of the best frontman , lead singers......Billy Duffy is an amazing guitarist......They still are amazing....
I will alway love this band , til I die
I come back to watch this every now and then and I’m still blown away at how well it’s put together!
WHEN WE STARTED OUR BAND, THE CULT WAS WHAT WE HAD IN OUR MINDS
One evening back in 1992 I bought my first CD player (Denon) in addition to my new sound system. Stopped off at the 'record store' prior to heading home to set it up. I bought Sonic Temple by The Cult. What a great first purchase. Kick ass then. Kick ass now.
Hardest rocking Cult tune, my personal fav.
I've seen them twice once in 1987 with Billy idol at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre. The second time was in 2018 at the Greek theater in Los Angeles, California. They are a trip and there's no concert. Quite like it. You can hauler out but you won't be heard because they're such a roar.
Saw them in 1987, too. They opened for him.
Back when music was good 👍🏻
The best video I've seen for this song in years. Perfect.
Thank you
Billy Duffy on guitar🎸🎸🎙🎶🎵🎼👍
I cannot agree more!
WOW!!! This is THE BEST video for this song. BRILLIANT!!!
DITTO! Almost makes me wonder why they never made an actual music video for this song for MTV. Could've filmed it using Jim Morrison-like imagery in it with the the whole band ripping it down a desert highway in the hot rod flame-painted '57 Chevy that's featured on both the Sonic Temple poster & inner sleeve of the album cover. You actually see the car in this video too! 🤘😷
The Cult will always have a special place in my heart - a band before their time and took me by the hand through my 20's ..
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Epic that others are watching in 2020!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Too Much!!! The cult rules
2021 here.
Yeah, Fuck yeah! Miss these days!
Me 2.
This band should have been WAY bigger!
One of the best live bands I have experienced.
Nice work @JohnnyRingo! I saw these guys in 1987. Ian Astbury was awesome!
One of my all time favorite rock albums
The band most underrated on all time.
Sun king live long!!!
Met them at the old French Quarter Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee during this tour. Nicest and most kindest people ever.
Sadly the French Quarter Hotel is gone, and I’ve long moved to Texas since then.
But damn straight, what a fantastic time that was. Great memories of that evening and thanks for the video! 🎉
Cool..I feel like moving to Texass may be a downgrade personally though.
Gorgeous Ian Astbury and what a powerful music! ❤❤❤
Throwback in time🥰 The Cult is forever painted on my heart😎
Saw them on the Sonic Temple Tour at The Orpheum in Boston in 89... My God how much time has passed... What a great time for this band!!!
Damn. This kind of rock makes me feel young gain and weak in the knees.
Raw Power...I feel privileged to have seen them perform this live.
Lucky, lucky you! 👍
Billy Duffy is the man! Superb guitar player
2022 Iconic!
My favorite guy
This song and it's terrific level of nostalgia make me feel compelled to dedicating the rest of my life, if need be, to perfecting a time machine, just so I could go back for a LONG revisit to that last few months of the 80's and the early 90's to experience this glorious album every day, and all the events and circumstances that came with it.
It became the most epic soundtrack to a time in my life that was truly priceless and I know I would do it 100% all over again, even though some of it was downright painful and stupid and some of it even brought terrible consequences.
Maybe it's all process and there really are no hard "good" or "bad" experiences, just things that we need to experience and lessons to be learned.
I feel for you! I miss the 80s and 90s...
Great song from a great album 👍🏼
Ladies and gentlemen i present to you THE coolest mother fucking band EVER 🤘😎🤘
Here's nothing else just pure Rock n Roll ! Awesome masterwork!
Perfect!❤️🔥
man these guys rock
Probably their most heavy song, and it's a keeper !!
Im stoked that im gonna see them this Saturday night! 1st time seeing 👀 em,too..
Next Saturday, I meant
Me too , Clearwater!!!🤘🤘🤘🤘
hot damn how was it? I saw them in 1992 and they ABSOLUTELY ROCKED
This album is the best ! Every song on it is so good. I love you Ian ...always!
Sonic Temple is untouchable
This is awesome, Sun King from Sonic Temple is without doubt the business
Lots of great memories
One of the greatest driving songs ever recorded.
One day driving with my dad who grew up in the 50s I threw in the cassette of Sonic Temple. - this song came on and my Dad was caught up in it !! After the intro he said “ what is this ?? I really like it !! “ I was blown away lol!!! Simply a phenomenal song and really gets going with Duffy’s thick chords and licks and really showcases Astbury’s insane vocals . SUN KING BABY !!!
The greatest Cult song, ever!
I'd rank it 2nd after She Sells Sanctuary
Brilliantly put together and sounds awesome! nice job!
Thank you......CFFC!!
Awesome Band!
Sick song👍2019
The Cult and Danzig r 2 of the most underrated Rocks Band of the Planet
Lucifuge was an amazing album
I think the cult is way better band then Danzig,I never gave them the chance though
Nice to hear REAL drums too
Welcome to the world of true hard rock.
Im in love fore sure with ian he is my dream man ❤️❤️❤️
love the video!..always thought Sun King had an AMAZING intro..✌💖🎸
Thanks.
Salve salve galera rock and roll,Hard rock poderoso! Muito bom este álbum,Sonic com Smaiusculo
Probably their best record ever. Catchy songs, powerful production and well played and sung
Love is the best record ever
@@annnoel9819 Love is the epic Cult album, but Sonic Temple expanded on everything they did before it. They just kept growing.
Nah, Nirvana....but everyone has their favourite and we are all right!
Great. First saw them live in 1987. Definately one of my favourite rock bands. God bless you.
Thank you for this brings back beautiful nostalgic memories ! 🖤❤🔥🙏
This band got very little air time and that’s very sad. Most underrated band IMO!!
Drummer has an iron cross, guitarist has a swastika on his shirt and Ian is sporting an SS deathhead on his cowbowhat! that is fucking rock and roll at its finest! Balls!
SARCASTIC SYMBOLISM
@@alanstrom2221 Occultic symbolism
Yes, the SS was knee-deep in the Occult.
Sun King is The best so beautiful and mysterious feels like im in love with ian so beautiful and cool ❤️🏹
I got the sun king 12 inch album cover as a tattoo. Best song ever. Am 45 now and never get sick of this song or the artwork.
Yeah, they always had really cool artwork and imagery.....Gotta be a bad ass tat you got.
Fuckin good man, a lover of true music!! Sonic temples got to be my #1 album🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
My fav Cult song ever....
Still just one of the best.
Still remember cruising the Shoreway in my red convertible with this song cranked……..great memories……
This was their most commercial album, IMO. I loved it, still do. Helped tide me over during the musically barren period just before grunge hit.. this rocks hard
So then, was grunge a musical garden?
@@kenklein9228 For Kurt Cobein yes.
This could be released this week and be an instant hit.. Damn they were SO far ahead of their time. Put headphones on and crank this one.. The guitar is a wall of sounds.. and intertwined with Ian’s voice it’s like they each needed one another to become a complete thing… if that makes sense..
Sun King e Fire Woman. Those two are the best The Cult's Song
I like American Horse great song.
Sun King is their magnificent musical apex, with Sonic Temple, their Zenith in North America. A total wall of sound!!!!
Good one for ripping up the town, the Doors of the new age
lol yeh!
Best song on Sonic Temple
Amen.
Holy fuck! What a rock-and-roll throwdown! That album started in overdrive and never let up. Up to this point, it was rare to see a band put out three consecutive masterpieces such as LOVE, ELECTRIC & SONIC TEMPLE. And they still continue to hold the bar out of reach for most.
Totally agree. Choice of Weapon is great, and Hidden City too.
@@OsitoTejano they lost their way after Sonic Temple found their way with Beyond Good and Evil
Great Video Ringo! Loved the Cult since 1987! Thank!😊
Born to sing with voice like that pure classic original voice don't like sound like anything else for me 🙂
Timeless!!!
Saw these guys in the 90's in Atl. Blew the house away. Still one of thr best concerts ive seen
Omni...Roxy...Tabernacle? I'll bet The Roxy.
Best Cult song no one knows.
Zap City, The Witch, Little Face, Libertine, Red Jesus...these are even more obscure because they weren't on any of their albums but all better songs than 99% of bands have ever come up with.
