I had the Ninja. Retuned it. I Needed the flexibility of Black Magic raw. Those ProRes raw file sizes were insane. Super expensive on the assist. But the menu alone is worth it. Black magic makes the best user interface!! ssd recording is great.!!
I got a Blackmagic Assist 5 12G HDR, and I love it ❤ My camera is Canon R6 Mkii and I use Samsung 2TB m.2 in a Asus case so I can hook it to the monitor via USB-C. 9 hours of recording in 4K25p, ProRes 422.
I have both. I prefer BRAW because I'm a Davini user... However not being able to connect a drive to the BM is annoying. I can't do anything with the Ninja raw as no support for Davini. For the GH6 you can't edit the iso post so not sure if it was worth it.
I use the caddy from the atomos line on the ssd and I use a phone holder and fix it on the BM. The sata3 to usb-c adaptor is a no name chinese thing and it work fine. You find a lot on amazon or other online shops.
Please, does Sigma FP may record SIMULTANEOUSLY Braw to card in Blackmagic video assist AND cdng to external disk via USB? (Of course, question is about safety of dual recording possibility.) Thanks in advance for answer, I didn't find it nowhere, just Simga SEO mentioned it is possible during interview for NFilmSchool...
I checked about the pinkish hue. It looks to me that ninja V looks log like and shows more dynamic range from the fp. I wouldn’t say BMVA has pink hue. It just looks more rec709.
What is the best one for the Canon C500 mki ??? I work in premier and I want to get the most out of my Canon C500 Mki. I just got the sdi add on for the Ninja V. But would the BM12g record better? Or is there a better option other than these two as well? Thanks!
Hi! I would go for atomos shinobi 7 for the sdi connection or the bigger 7 inch BM 12g. But mostly, it depends on what you like to edit on. If you’re a DaVinci guy, the BM is the clear winner. I prefer the BM.
Thanks for the video! I cant stand that the atomos leans so hard on such an old standard as SATA. I dont even think SATA is made to continuously get plugged in and out. Blackmagic seems alot more consumer focussed, they actually let you choose your own SSD whereas with the Atomos they really seem to want you to buy their SSDs. If you had a Sony FX30 which one would you pick? Im asking for a friend... ;P
Thank you! SATA works if you have the money to buy an ssd from Atomos compatibility list. If you get an fx30 you might want to buy Ninja cause you get prores Raw. If you don’t want Raw, you get the Video Assist. You can’t record BRAW from Sony cameras as far as I know. That’s a major flaw from Sony. It’s probably because they are cooking their own RAW or want to add cdng or something.
@@IonCosmina Thank you for your reply! I think being able to record in RAW is important so that automatically means the VA is out of the question. Thanks for explaining that so clearly! I didnt understand that at first, i thought it was mostly important for the editing software and not so much for the camera itself (im completely new to this and a bit overwhelmed by all the jargon and terminology) I'm a bit dumbfounded that the Ninja is the only one that really works with the FX30 (if you want to get everything out of the camera) I really wish there was an adapter from SATA to USB C so i can use what i got 😅 Again, thank you for your help!
@@mick0matic There are ways of turning T5/7/9 into ssd caddys but I would recommend buying a decent ssd from atomos compatibility list and going that way. I worked a bit with the fx30 and it's a beast. Keep on shooting :)

İ bought the Blacmagic '5 12G for my Sigma FP and Panasonic S1. But the BM 12G can not record ProRes "RAW" only "HQ. I'm working with Premiere Pro, it can handle "BRaw".
Thank you! I haven’t been working with premiere in quite a long time. Does it have highlight recovery for braw footage? DaVinci is awesome with that feature.

That ssd is the 870 evo or one of those usb c T7 ones ?

I am able to record on solid state drives from BM. I use external ssd and 2.5 sata3 with adapter to usb-c and it works.
@@IonCosmina what adapter do you use? I prefer ninjas cradle solution. I wish black magic would have something similar.

You cannot. Not simultaneously. I tried everything in the menu’s. Not an option. I think the safest is buying a VA 7inch. It has double sd card slots.
3:42 i dont get soemting, you cant edit ProRes in DaVinci?
Sorry. I meant to say ProRes RAW can’t go in davinci.
So as a sony user, we can't use blackmagic monitors?
You can use it for 422 10 bit prores hq. But no prores raw. Sony can’t output for braw. Also as a very bright video assist.
Is the screen of BM a little bit too pinkish? Have they fixed this? I remember in some old reviews, and many pointed this out.

Do you know will the Blackmagic Video Assist 3G power on quickly equal to 12G ?
Sorry. Never had a 3G.

1000 % the BM 5' 12G just orderd it :-D
BM has usb-c out. Ninja doesn’t. Case closed.
Where to use usb-c out?
If Videotimecode is coming in , will the sdi-out port pass that timecode on? thanks.
Hi, I don't know unfortunately. It depends on how they make the firmware

DaVinci user - so BM for me
Can thé black magic video assist record in 12 bits ?
Hi. Only in RAW. Prores 422 10bit HQ is max.

Black Magic assist doesn’t record ProRes at all
Hi. Happy new year! Bm va records prores lt , normal and hq. No RAW prores though.
NINJA V🤪
