    Amazing creative build. Thanks for sharing the process and amazingly generous to donate any sale funds to charity. It must be hard to part with something so unique and taken so many hours to create.

    That really turned out well. My favourite bit is how the woods meet on the headstock (or whatever you'd call it on a headless guitar!)

    Good idea I think for the headstock so you can still use a wall hanger for a headless guitar

    A really spectacular instrument and a true one off, the back makes me think of Michael Spalt with the "random" blocks. One thing you so need to work on is the timing of the reveal😉.... good luck in the comp🎸

  • @MR-vg7yn
    @MR-vg7yn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Really, really nice work!
    Those saddles would probably drive me insane, though. Way too impractical to adjust, IMO, but perhaps that's just par for the course for these single saddles. Never had a guitar that uses separate saddles for each string, but I assume that's the only sensible solution for a multi-scale guitar.
    The fretboard inlays are awesome and work really well with the fanned frets. Great job!

    • @jonathanoakey4745
      @jonathanoakey4745  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Yes, the saddles are awkward to adjust but once it's done, you shouldn't need to do it again unless you change string gauge. The guitar held its tuning remarkably well over the last few days, considering that the strings were brand new and will always go out a little bit at the start, so I think the whole setup works well and it's comfortable to play. There are a few staggered bridges on the market, I think, so it's not absolutely necessary to get individual saddles but it obviously gives you more flexibility about the scale lengths.

    Seems like a really practical guitar shape. While the headstock is a little "unsettling" at first, it actually turned out nicely. Being able to hang it up is a great feature. Certainly one of the top guitars overall (both official and unofficial).

  • @wilbert5916
    @wilbert5916 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The design is a little to much for me, and I do not like the headstock, but is a monument of craftmanship! 👍

      @jonathanoakey4745  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I knew that not everyone would like the design, but that's fine! It was an experiment and I certainly don't plan to do another body like that because of the amount of work involved!

  • @dalejohns207
    @dalejohns207 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I said you would make the shortlist. Next is the top 5 for sure. Can i ask were you as shocked as me that the stunning Rapture guitar by Givin wasnt on the short list ?

    • @jonathanoakey4745
      @jonathanoakey4745  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sadly, you're optimistic about the top 5, looking at the votes on CG's Instagram page! I'm just happy to have made it this far....I think my guitar is a marmite design that a few people like a lot, but doesn't have mass appeal. Yes, I'm surprised that Rapture didn't make it - it's one of the few guitars that I've commented on under the videos, both the concept and the execution were brilliant.

    • @dalejohns207
      @dalejohns207 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jonathanoakey4745 I sadly see what you mean about the voting page. I just dont understand what some people see when voting. If a bog standard kit guitar with nothing more than a pretty paint job on top is likely to make the top 5 i have no idea what to make of that. Thats not guitar build off in my opinion thats guitar assembly off. Anyway whatever happens great work sir and hopefully i look forward to seeing next years entry

    I have really enjoyed following this build and the end result is stunning!! You have inspired me to have a go myself and I have just started a build.
    One quick question - in older videos you had a Record Power bandsaw; why did you stop using it/get rid, if you don't mind me asking. Just I am after a bandsaw and looked at a Record Power. Thank you

    • @jonathanoakey4745
      @jonathanoakey4745  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I'm very happy if I've helped to inspire you to make a guitar! You're very observant....yes, I still have the Record Power band saw; the problem is that I moved house and my new workshop is in the cellar, down a steep and narrow set of stairs where I think it would be impossible to fit that band saw. Hence it's currently gathering rust in the garage, which is not good. I occasionally use it for something but it's not well set up at the moment, and generally the little band saw has proved to be better than I thought at first, once I bought better blades and learnt how to set it up reasonably well. From what I've heard they seem to be well reputed and I'm sure that my problems with it are due to my inexperience rather than the quality of the band saw. If I was looking to buy one in the UK again, I'd also look at the Axminster ones since they seem to make good stuff too.

      @@jonathanoakey4745 Hi Jonathan, that's a great help, thank you.
      I have a near completed shaping of the neck, have the truss rod and fretboard installed and fret slots cut so a long, long way togoyet, but it has been an enjoyable process and I've already learned lots from my many mistakes so far!

    Jon, that's a brilliant and beautiful design...is that fretted for Just Intonation..?

    • @jonathanoakey4745
      @jonathanoakey4745  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! It's regular fret spacing, it's only the multiscale that's slightly unusual. I'm not in the habit of playing multiscale guitars but it's not too hard to adjust - I made one before for a friend of a friend, but that got shipped out as soon as it was finished so I didn't play it much, although apparently he played almost none of his other guitars for the next six months!
