The second is Kelp Swamp, the water area where Mr. Krabs tasks Patrick with finding three Stone Tikis to put on the pedestal. Kelp Caves is the third area, and Kelp Vines is the fourth.

I've been playing Rehydrated version lately and felt like it was easier than i remembered from the PS2. Thanks to your video i'm now sure they made some tasks easier.
Actually, my main issue with Mermaid Man's time challenge is not the slide itself (even though it is very difficult, even after all these years), but my main issue is that checkpoint on the slide. If you fall off, it means you have to go to the pause menu, select spatula or 8 for that area, and try again... and again... and AGAIN. Seriously, who thought putting checkpoints on slides was a good idea? I always wanted to complete it in one go, otherwise it would feel cheap.
Yeah, that's the thing about some of the slides in the game, is that they've got a checkpoint at some point going down the slide. Which, that on it's own wouldn't be a problem if you weren't trying to beat the time trial or destroy all the sandman or both.

i didn't get to most of these spatulas as a kid, never unlocked dutchman's graveyard and just didn't even bother with most of kelp forest (mostly bc i couldnt figure out how to get to anything past the first area lol).. definitely need to revisit this game sometime soon, i wanna 100% it one day the ball in the mermalair i definitely remember though, never even got it to the teeter-totter 😭
How have I only just found this channel? Really good video and I definitely feel your pain with most of your picks. I still stand that all the bungee jump spatulas outside of the one in Downtown are textbook filler and often just add more shiny object collecting into a game that already asked for a lot of that. Though in terms of actual crushing difficulty and frustration, I have to give it to that Kelp Vines time trial. The only challenge in this game that is so bad and poorly designed, that it's more worthwhile and efficient to just cheat and try and make a leap of faith to a lower part of the slide and just hope you stick the landing.
Mermaid Man's time is so ridiculous because it's like c'mon? You're telling me an old man was able to go down this slide without breaking something? let alone a record time.
I know he does say "in my younger days, i held the all time record for vine sliding," so, it might be possible that he got the record when he was young and no one's beat it.
If we are purely talking about the least challenging spatulas to obtain, Patrick's dream where he literally just gives it to you has got to be the top of that list. The greatest challenge is just getting to Patrick's house in the first place.
Awesome video! Love battle for bikini bottom and love the idea for this! It may be a long shot but let me know if you’d be down to ever work together for a video or if you are looking for an editor! I love putting together gaming content!
weirdly enough, I never had trouble for the Ball puzzle... But the ones in the kelp forest... and the mission to clear out the krusty krab. those make me groan whenever I so much as remember those missions
One thing that isn’t technically a spatula but I hate the Dutchman wall jumps! And if you think the 7500 for Krabs is crazy you have NEVER tried for the Theater. 20 years and still never gotten all the shiny objects needed to enter. Then there’s that time trial for the kelp slide and the tikis to enter the cave. So annoying. Best thing about the forest to me is the music, I pretty much despise everything else.
also, i would have personally included swing along spatula from rock bottom. it's not hard but it really feels like they just needed one extra spatula in the level so they hid a button on a random rock. it felt cool to find as a kid but there was no indicator that it was there at all, similar to the goo tanker
The only two spatulas that gave me issues were the ball puzzle in the Mermalair and... part of Dutchman's Graveyard, where you have to wall-jump from a pair of moving platforms. I don't recall any others giving me any problems but the thing with the ball puzzle is that it's tedious and *not fun.* At least to me, anyway.
When My Son First Played Kelp Caves And Goo Tanker Ahoy On The PS2 When He Was Young, He Had Difficulty Getting These Golden Spatulas. Over Time, He Tried Again And Again Until He Finally Got Them Because He Was Able To Get The Rest Of The Spatulas Including Obscure And Hard Ones
I'm shocked that the goo lagoon light puzzle and Mr krab's dream weren't featured on the list, although you can cheese them both pretty easily with the cruise bubble.
Out of all the spatulas in the game The only one i despise is mostly the kelp forest The long ass slide and the long ass walking simulator No matter how much i tried to enjoy my gameplay it always brings a frown to my face
the 7,500 shiny object spatual from Mr Krabs is even more baneful in Rehydrated as they nerfed the scale of combos you used to get in the original making it even more of a grind to reach that amount
That Ball Room Spatula is the worst one to get in my opinion that last part just sucks. Will you be doing this for the Goofy Goober Tokens for The Movie Game? (reason why i asked this is because i heard the *Now We Are Men* Theme about 3/4 in the video).
Aren't the crystals the main objective? The rest of the game play is just the challenge of tedium you have to overcome to get the crystals. i've 100 percented the game many times at this point, so honestly none of the spatulas are that hard. the only one that is actually hard is the rolling ball challenge. all the rest are easy. what you call cryptic, others call exploration.
The darkness in the video wasn't an over exaggeration, I had one of those 10 inch tvs with a VHS player built in and I could not beat the first area of the Kelp forest because of how dark it was until I got a new TV. Kelp slides were alright, even as a kid I never struggled. The remaster makes it more interesting by making so you can't skip segments of the slide (or at the very least makes it much harder to). I also never realized how much Mr Krabs spiked up his prices. I remember on day one the remaster came out I had every spatula except for his last 3, and ended up grinding for about 3 hours just to get them so I could get 100% on day one. The entire time I was just thinking to myself "Did Mr Krabs always want so much?" but just assumed he did because I never 100% the game as a kid.
I would also include the spinning cylinders spatula from the Mermalair. IIRC there's some hidden trick to solve it simply, but I hate these sorts of puzzles in general. I also remember hating the one by Mermaid Man's TV in the same area.
They are on the more cryptic side I guess but I don't think Come Back With the Cruise Bubble and A Wall Jump in the Bucket are that bad. Not worst spatulas in the game level at least.
Agreed. I had no trouble with them even as a 6-7 year old, the titles give them away perfectly. I thought to just use the cruise bubble, and moving it around the area showed me a switch to hit. WJINTB is easy to see just walking around the Chum Bucket interior and assume you gotta jump between the two walls like you’ve done many times by that point in the game.
I don't know if it works in the original game but in Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated you can get the steam achievements for gathering all golden spatulas and all of Patrick's socks by collecting 100 spatulas and 80 socks over multiple save files.
The ball spatula in spongebob's dream gave me gray hair as a kid. Oh my gooooooood! It kept me from 100%'ing this game multiple times. I just couldn't get it. Got it first try on rehydrated though, but I'm old now. I like the mr krabs shiny object spatulas though. Idk why
The reason why Patrick got the short end of the stick is because Sandy was already playable in both SpongeBob's Dream and The Dutchman's graveyard which means they needed to make Patrick the player 2 of Kelp Forest since Sandy is already overly reliant on some of the more brutal levels in the late game and Sandy's lasso jump is broken enough as is and would completely destroy Kelp Forests entire core level design All the same tho, even if thematically it wouldn't have made sense, I would have switched Sandy for Kelp Forest and Patrick for Spongebob's dream.
I actually did have trouble with that when I was a kid at first. But not the actual mission, I had trouble navigating the spiky boxes in between the Krusty Krab and Patrick's Rock. That's the REAL challenge behind that one.
Frustrating as it is, I've always liked the Kelp Vines. I appreciate that it's a lot more of a challenge than the other slides. I also don't mind the Chum Bucket wall jump. I found that pretty easily when I was a kid. Same with Come Back With the Cruise Bubble. I thought it was pretty straightforward. The Rolling Ball challenge is frustrating, but only because of the teeter-totter part. Seriously, if they had just removed that, the rest of the challenge would have been a lot of fun in my opinion. To me, the worst by far are the later Mr. Krabs spatulas. It takes forever to get enough Shiny Objects to buy them all, especially if you were getting all of other spatulas that you had to pay the clams for. There's no way to do it without long, tedious grinding. Unlike the other difficult spatulas, there's nothing fun about the challenge in the first place. It's just boring, tedious work to get all the Shiny Objects. Would love to see you discuss the worst Goofy Goober tokens in the Movie Game.
I'm surprised that you didn't include the Turning Cylinders part for Patrick because that one was insanely difficult in terms of getting the golden spatula
Regarding mr.krabs' golden spatulas in the classic version, it's 39,500 Shiney objects, and i did just do the math. With rehydrated, yeah, in the initial release of it, he was pretty bad, i think he was upwards of 108k shiney objects if you were going for 100%, that was obviously fixed in later updates. Both figures are assuming that you want to collect all 8 at once. Which, at least for rehydrated, i will give it points for in regards to both patrick and mr.krabs. what they'll do in comparison to the original is not directly give you the spatulas, which...if you want all 8 at once, definitely is a bonus considering that you don't have to sit through spongebobs saving animation. With the rolling ball arena, you can actually set up certain things beforehand, the swinging hammer and thr turntable track being the only things you can actually prepare yourself with. The only problem is that they reset when you lose the ball. Regarding the kelp vines, Multiclassicgamer and i have founds ways to make the challange a least a little bit more manageable, with Multiclassicgamer, they've found that moving the camera when you go around the turns helps, while with me, pulling back on the left analog stick when doing the same helps a bit too.
im really ngl, i havent played this game BUT if i see a collectible in between a wall and another surface, im just going to assume i can wall jump. you dont really need it to be obvious all the time with symbols, and if you DO need it pointed out..then i really dont know what else to say other than learn context clues
Can't really agree on the one where you had to lower the toxic goo levels to reveal paths. I always explore all my surroundings and saw the familiar Golden Spatula glow in the goo, then later on saw where the goo was coming from. I didn't know how to close it right away, but that's where you simply throw things at the wall until something sticks, in this case you shoot something at the wall.
Looking back as a kid with all the spatulas I struggled with the rock tiki section was always the one I could not beat. To this day I still can’t say if I’m doing it correctly or not lol definitely the hardest level when I was younger.
After playing this game so many times as a kid also playing the remake, one of the worst gold spatulas is getting all of Patrick’s socks and also the ball room but surprisingly in the remake the ball room wasn’t that too bad. Kelp Forest was definitely a bad area due to it being so dark and also the one bus stop in the original
Forgot to add that I never really had too much of a problem with the shiny objects for the gold spatulas, another annoying one as a kid was getting all the wheels in the downtown area as it took me some time to find what I was missing.
I played thrrough it several times as a kid but always skipped Kelp Forest. I just didn't vibe with the atmosphere and tasks like that didn't help. Anyway, the only spatula I was never able to find causing me to be stuck on 99% forever was the goo tanker hatch. The others I could find but that one had no indication whatsoever. And yes, I mean 99 because the spatula in the goo on the shipwreck can be reached without draining the lake, the devs kinda put it too close to walkable space.
I started doing Archipelago Randomizer for this game recently and learned how to Cruise Boost so that I could do Kelp Forest backwards & so that I can clip into the glass that holds the Golden Spatula in the Rolling Ball Room, let me tell you it makes all of this stuff way easier instead of doing them the intended way!
5:49 yeah I remember seeing this hidden spatula in the goo. I had no idea how to get to it. I didnt even know about the hatch. I would replay this game ALOT so every time I come back I would make pointless attempts to reaching it. It didnt make sense to me. Then about 18 years later (at least) when I was doing a playthrough on youtube did I look deeper into it and was blown away by finding out I had to shoot the hatch. I was mad at myself for not figuring it out but also I just had no way of figuring this out. How was anyone supposed to know that?! But at least my childhood can rest in peace now that I finally got the spatula YEARS later edit: also alot of these I didnt struggle. Even the krusty krab was easy. You're making it out to be harder than it is. But the ballroom in the mermalair? Like the spatula in the graveyard this one took me years to get. It comes down not to not knowing what to do but my age. You get smarter as you get older as well as more patient. As a kid id get frustrated but as I got older I think things through and adapted. I had the patience to plan things out and study how things worked and after so many years I finally figured it out and got it for the first time.
I mean, if people are having trouble with Mermaid Man's time, they can just jump far enough into the slide to start the clock but not so far in that they can't get back up, jump into the box, then walk towards the end of the slide. There are no checkpoints along the slide, just the triggers for activation and completion, so not only can you complete the challenge without even touching the slide, it's the recommended speedrun strat.
I honestly don't get why everybody hates the marble I never had any trouble with that Now the throw fruit segment right after it was the one that gave me the most trouble
Call me insane, but getting all of the shinies to complete Krabs' spatulas was not that bad for me since I was already killing and destroying everything with the bubble cruise, or bubble bowl while on the way to the next spatula. As for unlocking the concept art in the theatre, that was a pain.
Kelp Forest was just a bad level in general. I still don’t get why it’s so dark. I’m surprised you didn’t mention the mission with Mr. Krabs and the tikis in that level. If I’m not mistaken, if you die at all, the tikis go back to where they were
I don't like "Here you go" I'm near the end of the game and I get one to talk to Patrick. Especially with the dreams of the others being pretty fun it's just disappointing that there's zero effort. If it was a beginning one I'd be more forgiving, but it felt like they had 99 Golden Spatulas and needed to ship the game out in a week so they made that one just to hit the 100 threshold
Id argue both space needle spatulas are really bad since you have to do a lot of bungees into tikis that have really small hitboxes and it takes up a lot of your time only to realize you need to come back with the cruise bubble to finish that spatula too and you wasted about 20-30 minutes doing a bungee.
see i thought i was just a bad player for not observing my surroundings in FDGY but how can you defend the fact nobody, no npc no hints or tricks would’ve told you to cruise bubble the latch to close the drain. like that wasn’t in plain sight that was just testing players to see who knows background solid objects between flat dimensions
I never figured out the chum bucket one as a kid. It never occurred to me it was a wall jump and I kept using (can’t remember the name, the one that launches you up with the hat). My brother and I thought you needed sandy. When I got to it in rehydrated I still didn’t know but I think rehydrated makes it so if you jump it latches you to the vent (idk I can’t remember it’s been a while) and that’s how I realized. Also couldn’t beat the kelp slide or that those two confusing wall jumps in the graveyard
Personally, the two that bother me that aren't are here are Mr. Krabs' Dream and the Sea Needle Tiki Smash Bungee spatulas. While Mr. Krabs' dream is obvious, the Bungee for the Sea Needle is wonky in Rehydrated (original is fine for the record) where sometimes you just slide off the tikis or worse, you just can't reach them for whatever reason. I've had to cheese that particular task with the cruise bubble just even get that spatula.
Kelp Caves will feature 2 bus stops in BFBB Deluxe.

i didn't get to most of these spatulas as a kid, never unlocked dutchman's graveyard and just didn't even bother with most of kelp forest (mostly bc i couldnt figure out how to get to anything past the first area lol).. definitely need to revisit this game sometime soon, i wanna 100% it one day
the ball in the mermalair i definitely remember though, never even got it to the teeter-totter 😭
@@MorganRussman-g1v that's true!
It's funny how people rave about open world games, and then complain about walking.
If we are purely talking about the least challenging spatulas to obtain, Patrick's dream where he literally just gives it to you has got to be the top of that list. The greatest challenge is just getting to Patrick's house in the first place.
The Kelp Caves mission has way too much back-tracking that makes the mission tedious
I needed a video like this rn. I’m in a bad head space.
I thought the Rolling Ball Room was the worst Spatula to get.
11:58 Uh oh. The Gamespot review 😨
what do you need all that art for?
DON'T ASK QUESTIONS YOU AREN'T PREPARED TO HANDLE THE ANSWER TO.
That damn obstacle course in the Mermalair!
good vid! do you plan on doing a similar vid covering the worst socks?
also, i would have personally included swing along spatula from rock bottom. it's not hard but it really feels like they just needed one extra spatula in the level so they hid a button on a random rock. it felt cool to find as a kid but there was no indicator that it was there at all, similar to the goo tanker
As someone who has done 100% BFBB and mods for it many times, I can agree with these spatulas as the worst!
Out of all the spatulas in the game
The only one i despise is mostly the kelp forest
The long ass slide and the long ass walking simulator
No matter how much i tried to enjoy my gameplay it always brings a frown to my face
the 7,500 shiny object spatual from Mr Krabs is even more baneful in Rehydrated as they nerfed the scale of combos you used to get in the original making it even more of a grind to reach that amount
Idk why
The reason why Patrick got the short end of the stick is because Sandy was already playable in both SpongeBob's Dream and The Dutchman's graveyard which means they needed to make Patrick the player 2 of Kelp Forest since Sandy is already overly reliant on some of the more brutal levels in the late game and Sandy's lasso jump is broken enough as is and would completely destroy Kelp Forests entire core level design
All the same tho, even if thematically it wouldn't have made sense, I would have switched Sandy for Kelp Forest and Patrick for Spongebob's dream.
Clearly the hardest spatula in the game is Patrick’s dream
6:48
For me, it was one of the very first for me after getting access to the Goo Lagoon pier. You could probably imagine why.
I'm surprised that you didn't include the Turning Cylinders part for Patrick because that one was insanely difficult in terms of getting the golden spatula
I love complex puzzles, but I can never figure this one out. Every playthrough I just hit random switches until they’re all turned the right way
Regarding mr.krabs' golden spatulas in the classic version, it's 39,500 Shiney objects, and i did just do the math.
Great video and I agree with most of these for sure
im really ngl, i havent played this game BUT if i see a collectible in between a wall and another surface, im just going to assume i can wall jump. you dont really need it to be obvious all the time with symbols, and if you DO need it pointed out..then i really dont know what else to say other than learn context clues
Hot take: most of these are actually good, they're just harder
Can't really agree on the one where you had to lower the toxic goo levels to reveal paths.
I always explore all my surroundings and saw the familiar Golden Spatula glow in the goo, then later on saw where the goo was coming from.
I didn't know how to close it right away, but that's where you simply throw things at the wall until something sticks, in this case you shoot something at the wall.
As a kid, I had 99 Spatulas forever. Indeed it was me being unable to figure out Goo Tanker Ahoy for the longest time.
That damn ball room, could NEVER finish as a kid , even today I still have trouble with it
7:03 You’ll have to use the free shiny objects cheat code in order to pay off Mr. Krabs’ greedy asking prices
2:20 Dude thank you! That's the shit I had to deal with as a child.
Thanks for the video
The Mermaidman's time is tough, but I'd still say the ball room is the worst. Good overall list.
Yeah i can't lie as a kid i never used the throw fruit for kelp cave after i realized how far you gotta go with it i was like nah
But at least my childhood can rest in peace now that I finally got the spatula YEARS later
edit: also alot of these I didnt struggle.
Ughhhh... the Rolling Ball
4:35 you can’t forget about the soundtrack for it😉
Correct me if i'm wrong but don't they show you the button at the sea needle in a short cutscene? I feel like I understood that one immediately.
14:32
Look Gary there I am!
Omg that ball one was frustrating even as an adult
I don’t know how I managed to beat the kelp Vine slide when I was younger, but on the remastered version, I can’t even beat it
As a kid, i found that generator puzzle with patrick to be a pain, given how one button would turn 3 generators.
I never ever beat the ball room. I feel like I lost years of my life trying to beat that
I honestly don't get why everybody hates the marble I never had any trouble with that
Now the throw fruit segment right after it was the one that gave me the most trouble
I always hated the robot ambush in the Krusty Krab during Spongebob’s Dream!
Dream ball sequence is skill issue 💅
I feel bad in all my accomplishments I've never managed to figure out how to get or what to do to get past the mountain and beach areas and the town 😂
Spongebob dream enemy ambush (Whatever it is called). I died more there than in the Krusty Krab one.
The only reason Mr krabs wasn’t last was because when I did my 100% run I did skee ball abuse 💀
Call me insane, but getting all of the shinies to complete Krabs' spatulas was not that bad for me since I was already killing and destroying everything with the bubble cruise, or bubble bowl while on the way to the next spatula. As for unlocking the concept art in the theatre, that was a pain.
I feel like the ball room is also infamous thanks to that one IGN review.
Kelp Forest was just a bad level in general. I still don’t get why it’s so dark. I’m surprised you didn’t mention the mission with Mr. Krabs and the tikis in that level. If I’m not mistaken, if you die at all, the tikis go back to where they were
4:00 i think its fine because the dialogue is funny
I’d say Mermaid man’s record was hard
I think Kelp Vines is worse in Rehydrated because they patch out the shortcut
Fool's Gold Spatulas.
Bubble Bash.
@ yeah
8:02 WHAT?! 24,000 SHINY OBJECTS!!!!!!!!!?
Personally, the two that bother me that aren't are here are Mr. Krabs' Dream and the Sea Needle Tiki Smash Bungee spatulas. While Mr. Krabs' dream is obvious, the Bungee for the Sea Needle is wonky in Rehydrated (original is fine for the record) where sometimes you just slide off the tikis or worse, you just can't reach them for whatever reason. I've had to cheese that particular task with the cruise bubble just even get that spatula.
I didn't have any issues with the Sea Needle myself.
Yeah Mr. Krabs' dream was the first one I thought of.
