    I love that your interests are finance & physical therapy. I too enjoy them both. I have been a PT aide for 3+ years & am now an office manager for a PT clinic. I’m 24 & don’t have my bachelors. While I feel as though PT suits me, I believe it’s financially & time wise for me to just go to PTA school. What are your thoughts?

    • @PTProgress
      @PTProgress  5 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Hi Camille! PTA school is an excellent option for people who want to work in physical therapy without incurring the debt or time it takes to get a DPT. I think too many people look at the “D”PT as an educational check mark, crossing it off your life’s to do list - like getting a doctorate in something fulfills a deep down desire to do something “big” with your career. The truth is, you can affect so many people as a PTA - you don’t do the evaluations, but you perform vital treatments throughout the plan of care and play a huge role in getting people better. I hope you find a way to stay involved in PT without feeling like you need to spend the next 7 years pursuing a DPT degree. It’s not that I’m against you going back for a bachelors or even a DPT. I think you’ll excel in the clinic space as a PTA and that your experience as an office manager may even set you up as a clinic manager down the road.

    Hi there.
    I'm really confused.
    Which major should I go with, I have done DPT(doctor of physical therapy) and due to covid and the worst situations of our clinical area, we were not able to do any practical work there.
    I want to appear in liscence exam but in that exam practical work portion of the exam seem a hug barrier to me.
    So for that purpose I want to do specilization in exercise science or kinesiology and specifically in USA. For which liscence exam I have been preparing for.

    Hello, I am glad I found your channel. Do you have a bachelors degree in finance? I just completed my bachelors degree in business and I wish to become a physical therapist but I am a bit concerned of the amount of time it will take to take pre requisites and get accepted into a program. I am considering becoming a pta first and then at some point later finish off DPT. What are your recommendations?

    • @PTProgress
      @PTProgress  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi Jaime! Yes I do have a bachelors degree in business and an MBA as well. I became a PT after I worked in finance for 5 years. I spent about 14 months completing the extra pre-reqs required for PT school, but I worked full time, completing the courses over 3 semesters. To be honest, with a bachelors degree in business you may be better off just getting an associate's degree to become a PTA in just 2 years. If it takes you a year for pre-reqs plus 3 years to get a DPT, you'll be spending a TON more on tuition to get your DPT. A few thoughts: don't get a "DPT" just to get a doctorate degree (see my other video on that..), the cost to become a "DPT" is absurd - spending $150k to 200k does not match the 70k you earn as a PT. PTAs can make 55-70k+ depending on the setting. While physical therapy is an interesting field, it is very difficult to recommend that people jump into the career when there is a HUGE cost to become a PT and big issue with the income to debt ratio.

    • @jaimecorral6304
      @jaimecorral6304 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh wow an MBA too? That’s awesome but sure is along time in school. That’s exactly why i am considering becoming a PTA, however I live in Texas where tuition at a public university is roughly around $30-40k for the entire DPT program. Would you still advise to become a PTA? I am not interested in the title, I am more interested in the autonomy.

    • @PTProgress
      @PTProgress  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaimecorral6304 In that case, I would recommend pursuing your DPT to become a physical therapist. Texas tuition is very reasonable and you should be able to graduate with minimal debt. Best of luck with your pursuit to become a PT! Hopefully some of the videos on the PT school playlist prove helpful for you!

    Should I shadow in high school or college?

    • @PTProgress
      @PTProgress  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think if it's a career you're seriously considering and willing to spend 40 hours a week doing for 15+ years, it's worth shadowing both in high school and in college. Your interests can change from high school to college, so keep an open mind. Shadow a PT for 50 hours in high school as well as other careers you're interested in pursuing. Then shadow a few more in college between freshman/sophomore/junior years.

    • @0110jess
      @0110jess 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends honestly. In the state of Texas you can’t include anything you did in high school so it would be pointless. But absolutely start as soon as you start college. All colleges that I’m aware of require at least 75 hours.
