Hi, Sir! I'm also from The Philippines fresh senior grad. I'm planning to enroll a course to become a Physical Therapist. Ilang years ba kailangan i Spend for studies and mga anong range ng tuition?
I’m an introverted Massage Therapist and this sort of interaction with people is PERFECT for me. Deep quality One-on-One time with the client. I would think that it would be similar as a PT? I just don’t dig superficial surface conversations with large amounts of people. I just want to do what I can to help people in pain.
Hello! Former MT turned PTA here. If you don't feel your best with groups of people, working in a hospital or skilled nursing setting is great. Like you, I'm introverted in the same way, which is why I now treat LTAC patients. If you're still not sure you'll like it, you can always shadow a PT. It's free, very in-depth, & you get a better idea if PT is a good fit for you. BEST career change for me. I love being in physical therapy!
TheShoe1990 Awesome! Thanks so much for your reply, sounds right for me. I also hear that if you work in that type of environment (public service?) they might help you pay student loans off?
"Good luck, I hope we did something right." 😆 I absolutely enjoyed watching you two discuss the "why and who" behind going into PT. It's so important to know your personality type and breaking this down is very helpful. I am a career-changer "people-person" and initially began taking prerequisites for nursing, but being someone with an athletic background, and passionate about health, wellness, and functional movement, I am now considering this route more heavily. Thanks again!
I am also a nursing student, I think I’m about to make the switch! I just want to be 100% sure before I do, been doing a lot of research. I hope all goes well for you!
Nursing has way more options - stick with it. The DPT is a money grab and you won't use 70% of what you learn. There is no career mobility with PT. TRUST ME ON THIS!
Personality. You have to like people. You have to have patience a great deal of patience. I'd say for the most part people appreciate the therapist. But there are those who are so picky or whatever that helping them could be a chore. Those are patience and endurance and love for the job in the people that you deal with
We appreciate you coming on TH-cam and giving us these hints on how to be better and healthier. When it comes to a therapist we want the hands on attention. The doctor we can take a leave generally a lot of people don't like doctors. Because the physical therapist we feel a change more rapidly hopefully for the better. Jonas more people go on TH-cam talking about physical therapy and I don't even think that's going to help. Physical therapist are going to be around for a long time because people want that one-on-one relationship. So thank
This is why I went into PT, however with ever declining reimbursements you either see more patients or go out of business. That's why there is so much dis-satisfaction in our profession.
As a mom of an undergrad student who is leaning towards physical therapy this video was informative and fun to watch. Ill be forwarding this video to my daughter. Thank you
I am a highschool track athlete and I messed up my hip pretty badly with labral tears, impingement, and apophysitis. I went to a physical therapist for 4 months!! Before that I always knew I wanted to pursue a medical career but now I seriously consider going into physical therapy. I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!jahsbsjsis Also just love your channel in general. Very epic.
Thanks for this video, I’m finishing my bachelor’s degree and it gets hard and kinda makes you think if this is really what I want, and I always end up with the same answer, yes. Really, thanks for the video!
I wish I had gone into PT instead of nursing. I really admire our physical therapists-they are the absolute best! I work in a 5 Star Medicare rehab facility, on the rehab unit. I tell everyone who will listen that when they arrive; the single most important thing they can do to ensure a good outcome is to listen to their physical therapists and do everything they say. ( also the occupational and speech therapists too, Im not overlooking them). It is so nice to see my elderly patients get better and go home! I have been in eldercare for 40 years, and it seems to me that physical therapy continues to improve decade after decade, whereas nursing and medicine is kind of stagnant. (That’s just my opinion).
I am confused about should I take nursing or PT . I wanted to be a doctor but my parents are sending me for nursing . And then only i start thinking about PT and confused what i should choose?
@Roz~ano nursing can be a bachelor's degree. You need a bachelor's before dpt or med school. So go put your heart into nursing and you'll have all the options in the world. You can become a nurse anesthetist, nurse practitioner, physical therapist, doctor, anything you want.
20+ years of experience as a PT here. If you don’t mind student loans making half what nurse practitioner makes or physician assistant go for it. It’s not a easy job and pay didn’t change much in last 10 years. If you really love it you should do it. It’s definitely not what it used to be in early 90s.
I’m in the last 5 months of my DPT program right now and this was a great video! The main downside I would say is the cost of tuition relative to the salary to be made. Unless there is assistance in some way shape or form, most students now a days will be in six figure debt myself included.
Bk Jackson for sure! This can be said for the cost of higher education in America as a whole but it’s definitely a tough pill to swallow for PT specifically.
I'm 35 and being a PT is something that I've though about on and off because of literally everything you just mentioned. I love sports and moving my body, I love helping people, and I want to be able to share the the joy I get from moving my body with others. Im realizing now that this is something I want to 100% commit to but it's going to be a complete career change for me. I didn't major in a science so I'm concerned about the prerequisites to get into a DPT program, especially the work hours req. With that said, is it difficult for someone who didn't major in a related field to find job or volunteer opportunities in PT to satisfy that prerequisite?
I’m in a similar boat! I’m 32 and have a degree in linguistics but I have a personality fit and strong interest in PT! Great question to ask for others alike
Thanks for the video guys. Just recently got accepted into a DPT program and am preparing for the transition. Sometimes you need a little outside clarification to assure yourself you're on the right path. This video definitely helped.
If you really love PT and are willing to suffer through all the frustrations that will come to this dying profession, then go for it. Otherwise, consider becoming an orthotist, or a PA, or a NP instead. I really think there is a better future in those fields. PT and OT will be replaced by written/video instructions given to patients by a Dr. or nurse unless Obamacare gets overturned. Drastic cuts to therapies are coming in 2020.
Thank you both. I have been considering a career in this field because I already work in the medical field. I enjoy doing it and ortho work has always appealed to me and genuine fitness health. Great video!

Watching this video game reassurance and reminded of my motivators to why I want to pursue this career, which is to essentially teach other more about their body in order for them to feel better and to live a more full-filing life.
I appreciate the information. I have been out of high school for roughly 7 years now. I was a former truck driver (18 wheeler) figuring where to go in life while traveling and making some money to survive at least. The saying, “you do not know what you have until you lose it” resonated when I have not been exercising as I had back in high school and being constantly over stressed. I am on my last year of community college before transferring. Before this pandemic occurred, my current direction was to be a phys Ed teacher. I can see it being removed from grade schools in 15-20 years. I have been searching which sport medicine field to go into. One recommendation was to look into OT and PT. After a bit of advice from my sister, who is an OT, mentioned that PT was a better suit for what I love. I have decided to follow down that path since taking an AP course was very fascinating. I am still researching all about PT, which seems to be the best fit for what I have been reading and watching. Thank you for all of the content you have been providing. Keep up the phenomenal work.
I’m in the last 5 months of a 20-month PTA program, and although it isn’t as long as the DPT program, it’s awfully grueling. The professors (all DPTs) explain that we learn nearly everything that a PT does, which is what makes it very challenging, since it’s shoved into such a short period of time. I know it will be worth it though! I’ve been on some clinical rotations already and I am blown away by how much I’ve learned. It’s really the hands-on experience that facilitates learning, and you’re completely right, you can’t be afraid to be hands-on! Also wanting to help people & being committed to the education piece is so important as you said- a LMT who started out in our program failed after the second semester, her reason for starting the program was “it makes more money than massage therapy!”
Update. do u regret taking it, how hard was the program, do you feel satisfied, would you recommend, please tell you as much as you can about any pertinent information about this field, because i am looking to go into this field. Thank you
Saved myself 250K in tuition costs thanks to fellas like you on youtube! I treat my own injuries thanks to channels like this. Progressive credentialism is infecting physical therapy! Good points, unless cuts to healthcare cease (they never have during my 20+ year caeer) PT and OT will be replaced by written/video instructions, given by Dr., to do at home
Joseph Dykes CMS is planning an 8% cut to PT next year and for PTA’s it’s going to be 15-25%. Then insurance companies will follow. It’s a travesty that the APTA has only in the last couple of years done a modicum of trying to stave off massive cuts. Now that Obamacare is the law of the land for 10 years and plenty of people are enjoying others paying for their health insurance....My thoughts are,” I wonder what the salaries of PT’s at the APTA are making along with their administrative counterparts.?”Surely they Are deserved because they are the wizards of smart and they “know better”.,,,it will be justified by stating we need six figure salaries because we live in an expensiveness part of the United States! it’s all elitism and being out of touch with reality with what PT’s in the trenches are experiencing. What really bothers me is that I contacted the APTA, I wrote to the APTA . I told them that supporting Obamacare (the Unaffordable healthcare act ) was a terrible idea because everything that was said was a lie. None of what they said was true and of course I turned out to be right. Jonathan Gruber (the primary architect of Obamacare said that Americans would have to be stupid to support something like this ) and of course it was forced through the house and the senate on Christmas Eve and passed at 11 o’clock at night on a completely partisan vote. NOT ONE republican voted for that. For such impactful legislation that is absolutely based upon wealth transfers, it should’ve never taken place but it’s all history now. so we have to fix the mess that the former president created and hopefully we will in 2020.

I want to be a physical therapist. I've always been interested in how to body functions and have been interested in anatomy but I'm older im 34 and I'm worried that its going to cost to much or take to long to eventually graduate and get a job 😔
My take on this: 1. Excellent video! 2. The intro almost made me spit-take. (And I say it the highest complement). 3. I am a Radiologic Technologist, and across the years, I feel that I have a knack for applying both empathy and a helping hand for each patient that I attend. For example, I even advise them on how to appropriately sit up from the exam table. And at the end of the visit, many of them leave with grateful smiles. 4. I am just passing by, interested. Thank you for being sincere about this field.
From what I've seen the salary for Physical therapists is great, the lowest I've seen is 80k a year. That's pretty good you would live a great life. And as you get more experience it can only get better, I'm sure when you get your first job it might not be quite as much
I didn't become interested in becoming a physical therapist until after I got my degree in media arts and science and become in too much debt to go back to school. Oh well, the idea was nice.
The other thing about being a practitioner and an introvert, is to surround yourself with friends and family that will understand your need to be by yourself for sometime to re-energize when you get home. It is key!!

I'm pursuing a Bachelor's in Kinesiology, but I'm heavily interested in a DPT program after. It's a toss up between MOT and DPT, would you recommend job shadowing both careers to make the final decision?
Just wanted to say thank you for that very insightful message. I feel I have most of the qualities needed however I think that the actual class portion may be my greatest hurdle.
After 23 years in the field and seeing almost continuous cutbacks, I'm now, probably, only allowed to do about 20 percent of what I learned in school. Insurance, Medicare, Medicaid will no longer pay for many services or will not pay enough to cover your hourly rate, so bosses will not allow it. I really fear that unless Obamacare is overturned, PT and OT will be replaced by paper handouts or digital video files given by a doctor or nurse. Therapy is a luxury in many countries, and could be the same here someday.

Im still on Junior HS in Phi i want to be a PT any tips?
@@justinplayz1846 so you’re 13-15 years old and already thinking about your career ahead of you? If so you’re on great track my dude. Follow through with it and your life will flourish. As for tips just keep educating yourself on the topic, by the time your done with high school you’ll have the baseline knowledge of the field you want to get in to. Good luck my dude, stay focused!
Are you well-paid as a PT?
Thank you, Bob, for setting Brad straight on introverts!
I’m on the same page as you. It’s hard trying to decide what to do with your life.
Thank you
im an introvert been working healthcare since 16. does not stop you working with patients, now going for pt
I am a highschool track athlete and I messed up my hip pretty badly with labral tears, impingement, and apophysitis. I went to a physical therapist for 4 months!! Before that I always knew I wanted to pursue a medical career but now I seriously consider going into physical therapy. I LOVE THIS VIDEO!!jahsbsjsis
Also just love your channel in general. Very epic.
Thank you both! You guys are great 👍
Our pleasure!
How was it in the 90s?
I really wanted to hear more about the school part... I think there's a lot to talk about when it takes 6 to 7 years of education...
Have you graduated? How was the program? What bachelor degree did you get in the program?
Merline L I got a bachelors in exercise science, and graduating tomorrow with my Doctorate Of Physical Therapy!
Tony Do OMG! Congratulations! 🔥🧡🎓 How was the program? Was it hard? How much was the cost and are you debt?
Merline L very tough but doable! And yes I will have a lot of debt.
I am 35, have msc chemistry but I am starting PT in 8 months, I hate working in the lab
Thanks for the video guys. Just recently got accepted into a DPT program and am preparing for the transition. Sometimes you need a little outside clarification to assure yourself you're on the right path. This video definitely helped.
Congratulations
Kevin Danilowski
Any tips on getting in the school of your choice?
Kevin Danilowski How is the program going, and when will you graduate? 👀🎓
Thank you Bob for explaining what an introvert is!
Finished my applications to DPT school and am now waiting to hear back...Very nerve-wracking but I know this is the career for me
If you really love PT and are willing to suffer through all the frustrations that will come to this dying profession, then go for it.
Thanks guys!! Great video! I’m a former RN. IM TRCOVERING FROM A STROKE FROM LAST YEAR. I WOULD BE VERY INTERESTED IN BEING THE PT for my own personal knowledge heck yeah!!
We wish you the best!
Wow, I love this. Am a student going for my PT degree here in Nigeria. It's a 5 year course, the regulatory bodies are trying to upgrade it to a DPT program so far some progress has been made. Thanks for this video.
Good luck 🙏🏽 blessings
Thanks GUYS!! I got my 17yr old listening to you guys!! Love you guys!!
He is interested in sports med. & Psyio.Therapy. You are helping so much!! 💜🙏
My husband 1st started listening to you guys & he was blasting your utube

So I listen & was hooked!!💜🙏
I have always wanted to work with people and help them be healthy and as i am having more issues with my back, ive learned how much pain can really hurt your happiness and ultimately effect other areas of health. I have always wanted to work in physical therapy, but i am more interested than ever
I love this video! I am actually going to PT school in a few months from now and was kinda scared because it’s a big change for me. Watching this video game reassurance and reminded of my motivators to why I want to pursue this career, which is to essentially teach other more about their body in order for them to feel better and to live a more full-filing life.
How's the school going bro?
How’s it going now?
How is your education going now bro? Even I graduated high school 8 years ago and planning to go into PT
Brushless - unlike Bob's hair.
This was actually a very good and interesting video, thanks 👍
Avoid unless you have an entrepreneurial spirit and plan to build multi million dollar practices. Otherwise, the financial ROI is no longer there like it was a couple decades ago.
Yes why do PTs now need a doctorate???
@@bkjackson8092 MONEY and MONEY AND MONEY. Yet chiros have a four year degree, call themselves doctors (LOL).....not all chiros are charlatans but many, many are...
@@Renee-Heal-The-Eagle to be more competitive with chiropractors. It allows for direct access with patients, instead of a patient having to see a physician first
FYI do NOT go to pharmacy school too many pharmacists already. The schools of pharmacy pay $250,000 per year to belong to the association. The schools want your tuition money...talk to pharmacists.
Same with PT
@@dr.smith_dpt didn’t know there was saturation at all in physical therapy. Even if there is, no way it’s as bad as pharmacy right?
@@wh0ag251 Saturation in lots of non physician doctoral degrees right now - average pay for PTs is 80k with many new grads starting at 60k in saturated areas where as pharmacy you are much closer to the 100k mark on average. You can make 100k in either but much easier to do as an employee with pharm
Well I hope so since I am at school for it
Noah Mauro Awesome!! 👏🏽 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Well Congrats. School is not easy you always hit the ground running and stuff gets thrown to you on a daily basis. I would start studying for the boards. Everybody uses Osulivan Review Book. Good Luck and keep your head up. DR rob
Accepted to a DPT program and start in August, super excited!!
Congratulations best of luck 💪🏽
ive dealt with my father going through a few long stints of hospital stays and i was happy to stay calm and help out and once home, get him in the little home gym i built. so i am not afraid of hospitals, my only thing is i feel really bad for some people who have, 'that' look on their face.
anyways my father has said multiple times that i should be a nurse.
im also a complete introvert at a party, but one on one, i shine. so having watched this.. hmmmmm.
Man I really wish I was better academically because everything talked about in the video I can do besides the liking/being good at school. I would love to become a PT but the schooling part of it is really discouraging
I can tell Bob is an introvert but I like those because I think they are more inuitive to peoples emotions. Like an empath.
I love helping people and helping them train and teaching people about training. I'm also into natural bodybuilding. This sounds like a great fit :D
About to leave my investment banking career and pursue PT. Thanks for your awesome content guys. Glad I have a few years of living saved up to make the money not an issue
Im just about done being a diesel mechanic, I didn’t know what I wanted to use my GI bill on and I think I want to be a PT
I want to be a physical therapist. I've always been interested in how to body functions and have been interested in anatomy but I'm older im 34 and I'm worried that its going to cost to much or take to long to eventually graduate and get a job 😔
it’s never too late to go after your dreams and learn! work on it and you’ll get there
The biggest deterrent for me is the price. $100,000 of debt is not worth it. Plenty of other jobs pay similar.
You guys already won me over with that intro song.
My take on this:
I'm thinking about making this switch coming from the same schooling background as you, lol
I get to become a physical therapist
You guys are like the Car Talk guys of Physical Therapy!
Thank you guys so much for this info
I love anatomy dancing and helping people
I am a great fit... except I hate school 😭

I just started my bachelors and.. 😀😅
The other thing about being a practitioner and an introvert, is to surround yourself with friends and family that will understand your need to be by yourself for sometime to re-energize when you get home. It is key!!
Thanks guys! 8 year National Guardsmen here trying to see if this is what I want to do as an Officer as my priorities are changing as I reach 30 years old.
You will never be rich or even happy financially being a standard staff PT with current tuition rates. Please everyone look at the time, earnings, and opportunity cost, as well as the pending cuts in OP. The best way to be successful as a PT is to create your own system
PTA here; one reason I didn't go for the DPT was the tuition and mid-low salary at the start (though it can build after experience of course, with many other variables). You say create your own system as a therapist. As in travel, prn, etc..?
@@kylel7158 lots of opportunities - course creation, cash pay, etc but PT school currently is not worth it to be a staff PT. You as a PTA probably make more than some staff DPTs
@@dr.smith_dpt Hmm interesting. I was recently told about Non-clinicalPT.com which seems to be a great resource for other avenues for therapists as well. Yeah, the ROI for a DPT just isn't worth it..
Btw, just came across your channel - I'm definitely subscribing. The other side of school is worlds away from the reality of the work, whether as a PTA or DPT.
@@kylel7158 Thank you
Great video made me want to subscribe !!! As a high school student i was wondering if there is anything i can do in high school to prepare to be a physical therapy student thx!

Do you guys have predictions on the job market for DPT and PTA during/after the coronavirus crisis?
I think the job market for both of them will increase because of the baby boom, physiotherapists are needed for old people
it must increase a lot i think. Here in Argentina _kinesiologos_ are being heroes.
it’s oversaturated and will continue to be in popular areas and settings keeping pay down
You both have incredible knowledge
I start school for massage and pt tomorrow! Im so excited 😊😊
Hey! I live in Los Angeles and I’ve heard mixed feelings about tuition costs and loans being way too overpriced for the salary pay, is it really worth it?
“I hope we did something right.” 🤣🤣🤣
LOL, thanks for watching!
Thanks for this video! I recently decided that I’m going to do PT and got a job as a tech and this video made me even more confident in the decision.
You all are awesome!
i can’t decide whether to dive into dietetics as a field or physical therapy. i have less experience technically in physical therapy
this is great guys!! I have been thinking of making a "Was PT School Worth It?" video and this is in the same vein as what my thoughts are!
Same
Your intro jingle is just epic!
Dear Bob and Brad,
Can You please explain me the Exact different between 1) a Physiotherapist, 2) NHS Physiotherapist, 3) Occupational Therapist and 4)Kinesiology :)
I am study this!!!! Im 17 years old and i love this a lot. saludos desde Costa Rica
Bon and brad .. amazing muscis .. keep it up ... thanks for your information ..
This is awesome! I've been a Massage Therapist for the last 8 years, and finally decided to tap my GI Bill from my active duty days.
So much love for you two! Thank you for this and all of your videos!
How about becoming a physical therapist assistant?
I feel like I’m talking with my uncles or something I love this
That was good information. Thanks.
great video. I work as a rehab tech in an acute/rehab hospital and just applied to PT school. this video couldn't be any more true
Kailey Parts How is the program going so far, and when will you graduate? 👀🎓
Merline L I start this Monday but I finish in 2024 LOL
Kailey Parts Wow! That’s 4 years. What did you get your bachelors in?
Merline L kinesiology! Most PT programs take three years though!
Kailey Parts How was your first week?
Thanks for the insight. Reassures me that this is a career I am very interested to get into.
Is that really the case?
Thank you for sharing!
I am a big fan of PT John Barnes who helped bring Myofascial Release therapy to PT. Do you guys every talk about that type of therapy since it is PT?
I had a massage therapist do myofascial release and it's fantastic! 🙏
amyalewine THAT’s what helps me the most! Firm massage therapy and very warm water 💦 therapy, too. I have fibromyalgia, and osteoarthritis. Bursitis etc., etc.
I, of course, had Physical Therapy after 2 hip replacements and 1 revision and (very unfortunately) 1 very broken ankle! All that PT was hard on my fibro.

I’m 27 in college and aiming to becoming a physical therapist, should I reconsider?
Look into PTA if PT is to much time or money. their are also numerous types of therapists as well. Massage, occupational just to name a few.
As far as I know, OT is still only a required Masters degree for licensure as well, vs a doctorate for PT.
Thanks brothers am wanting to become a physical therapist soon but money and school, is tight but I I hope all will workout. Tha ja for the information
I have had two passions in life, drawing and helping people. I am now in college and did my first year as illustration and it killed my creative and my desire to be an illustrator and now I am taking the route of physical therapy. I wanted to do PT before I even came to college and job shadowed a bit but I am so excited and my personality traits lined up with everything that was said in this video. I know it’s a grind to make it through the whole program but it really seems worth it
How’s it going so far? I’m a senior in hs and plan on doing something like this
