I have been a volunteer since it’s inception, when I came out to play 17:05 Games. These people are my family, I laugh/cry/work/DRINK AND HAVE FUN every single year! I have watch my friends kids grow up, heck I love almost as much as my two kids! All I can say is I have been doing since I was six years old with my Dad in France (wargaming/ painting mini’s) till now. A greater group of characters you will never meet unless you attend! Heck become part of the family of volunteers and see the amount of work and fun we have setting up/breaking down! OGRE and my Rottweiler Scout
Hey Scott! Love the video and makes me appreciate what they do more. If you still talk to him maybe throw out Donald Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont. Big area and a ton of hotels right around it. Also like 5 minutes from O'Hare airport. Its also used for Anime Central. Tons of space and I know vendors use the Hyatt Hotel for areas and the Embassy Suites for more room. Might help with their space!
Fascinating and informative. As an old (trust me, old) retired finance guy, I love hearing about the history of companies, organizations, the triumphs, the failures, what worked, what didn't. I know, I know.. check me for a pulse, but this was great. Thanks for presenting this Scott.
I remember Adepticon first getting going. The 40k group it was started by was called Adeptious Basementus hence Adepticon. They started as a sister 40k gaming organization of the Iron fist gaming league in DC, MD, VA that I was a member of way back in the day. Very cool that it has gotten so big.
Adeptus Basementus was from the St. Louis area and served as the main point of inspiration to us in Chicago when we started the forums/organization for Adeptus Windy City in the late 90's. There was a ton of crossover in tournament play between the groups, but it was all super informal. Feels like a lifetime ago!
@@MatthiasWeeks Great to see Adepticon still going. I was one of the first GW folks to help support the con...me and Tim Van Dusen, Allen Blount, Trent Nighman, etc. I remember going to some of the early ones and us providing support with Outriders, product, etc back in the day. Always was a great draw and it still amazes me how big the hobby and variety of games has gotten.
That's wild to see Matthias. I was a charter member of Adeptus Windy City that was the original Chicagoland 40k club that made the tournament circuit in those days. He and I ran Space Wolves for a season or two.
It's great to see everything still chugging along. I haven't been back since 2016 but always love to see all the photos and writeups post con. Maybe a trip back out to the Windy City is warranted and get the crew from Black Sun together for a beer.
@Matthias Weeks Absolutely! I was there this year and ran into Chua and Orteza. Shame I didn't get a chance to really sit down and chat up the old guard. I'll have to link up at some point with everyone but it's great to see all the work yall have accomplished for the community. It's like seeing a childhood dream in progress.
I really appreciated this video giving insight into the people who make Adepticon happen. This year was my first year back since Covid, and it felt bigger than when I left. I’m curious, did they share attendance numbers with you?
As a guy who dabbled in organizing cons for some time now (over a decade now!), I love what I saw. It's a peek behind the curtain of a fellow convention with just a somewhat different target. And with the "from fans to fans" mindset too. This documentary awakened forgotten dreams XD'. Thank you.
This is a great interview. I particularly like his emphasis on how the event has worked to evolve over the years to better meet the needs of the community. Thank you for putting this together.
There were a lot of hardcore guys involved in warhammer when I was a teenager. I remember that the singer of a local band called halfmast worked at the warhammer store in Buffalo. I ended up getting into the hobby twenty years later. Wish I wised up earlier.
My son and I have been going to Adepticon since 2008. Obviously Covid took a few years away. We started talking about next years projects on the drive home. Can’t wait for next year
What a cool look behind the scenes! This was my first year at the con, and I'm glad I went - hoping to make it back next year. I would love to see an open competition there - either not tied to a miniature company or just an open format for one of the other comps (or preferably both!). I know there's other comps in the US, but I only have time to go to one per year, and would love for it to be Adepticon.
Wow, that was such a good video, well produced and brought to us in a way that was easy to follow and understand! Thanks for sharing Scott! Matt is an absolute soldier! Im surprised at how much they put in to the Con and to find out they're doing it as a side job, wow, just amazing. I went to Adepticon last year, wanted to go this year, but had some things come up that prevented me from being able to go... I was absolutely gutted I couldn't come back! I'll be back next year though, and since I live in between Chicago and Indy, Gencon is just around the corner and in my "backyard" So i'll catch you all at Gencon if you'll be there, and def next year at Adepticon! Thanks for sharing Scott, really enjoyed this video bro!
Dude. Stupid proud of you. You have created a pocket that has grown into a bag of holding for this community. :) 👏 👏 hope to nerd with you at a convention, such as this, someday!
Oh man. I would absolutely love to go to an event like this. Arc40k was a real let down for me but I realise it was all about the tabletop tournament and that's not what I was there for. I couldn't even enter any minis as I couldn't go there for both days since I lived so far away. Having no shop selling brushes, paints, etc or even any stalls selling minis was very disappointing. Surely they could have got one Etsy seller to be there with some minis and busts to sell? I'm glad I managed to meet Emil and Lukas though. But a five hour round trip was pretty harsh. This event on the other hand looks incredible.
Great video and great event. My one suggestion is they should modernize the badge handout process. The current alphabetically ranged card catalog handout system results in a 1000+ person line on Wednesday and thursday morning, with mult-hour wait times. If you can't find a digital solution, at least let people pay $5 to have their badge mailed to them. Otherwise, awesome con!!
He said they keep their stuff in central IL.. just curious, is adepticon too big for the Peoria civic center? Parking would probably be even worse, but there is a million square ft of space plus an arena there
Liked the interview, but missed you, Scott! I think you make great story arcs in your videos and I think the interview could have benefited from a bit of narration :)
I do like that adepticon.
Masterfully done. This really gets to the heart of what Adepticon is and why we all love it.
I’ve been twice. Had a great time each time and wished I could have stayed longer.
Thanks to Matt for the shout out!!!

Really love this type of video, continue being one of the best content creators out here.
OUTSTANDING video, lots of infinity terrain too
love the video. Would love to see more like this with various people in the hobby
This was super insightful and I loved it, Scott. Also is he wearing a Black Fast shirt? Such a killer band.

Fantastic video, never knew how AdeptiCon started and this explains it beautifully! Gorgeous videography too!
So cool to look at where AdeptiCon began and where it's going.

Great Guy. Gave you a head Nod in passing. ;)
3:12 did I see Vince mouth "Sure"?
Thank you for doing this video, loving the added perspective! Also it was great to get to meet you at Adepticon!
Loved this Scott! This is a great edited, filmed and conceptually put together video. Please do more🙏👍
More content like this! Loved it.
3:12 Vince's patented "sure". Hear the "sure" from the soundboard in my head. 😄
Loved seeing my Morat when you were showing the infinity tables!
That's wild to see Matthias. I was a charter member of Adeptus Windy City that was the original Chicagoland 40k club that made the tournament circuit in those days. He and I ran Space Wolves for a season or two.
Hey! Blast from the past! Still here - Chua is still involved too. I still have all my Space Wolves!

Really enjoyed hearing about the history of Adepticon, such a beast of the con scene now
I definitely want to get to an Adepticon. Being from Australia however, that trip is both very long, and very, very expensive! 😢
I really appreciated this video giving insight into the people who make Adepticon happen. This year was my first year back since Covid, and it felt bigger than when I left. I’m curious, did they share attendance numbers with you?
6,500 attendees rolling dice in 735 events were the stats they listed! I should've put that in the video xD
Big love my man, great coverage on an integral event!!
I love these kinds of videos you do that takes a step back and gives people a chance to talk about what they love
I like this mini-doc style of reporting where its just the subject talking. Also great work on the B Roll shots, always better with some movement.
I love these mini-docs. Keep em coming!
As a guy who dabbled in organizing cons for some time now (over a decade now!), I love what I saw. It's a peek behind the curtain of a fellow convention with just a somewhat different target.

Super happy to be involved in helping at AdeptiCon. Honestly a great group of people that love the community making a fantastic event.
Very awesome interview!
This is a great interview. I particularly like his emphasis on how the event has worked to evolve over the years to better meet the needs of the community. Thank you for putting this together.
3:11 It's funny that in the only clip Vince shows up, even though you can't hear him, you know exactly what he's saying 😂
4:34 "Keeping track of six thousand tendies." Gotta keep track of them when Scott is around.
This is incredibly cool. Gripped from the start, love how he was open and honest about the highs/lows, especially the pressure he feels running it.
Awesome video, I may never play a game but i know I will now never stop painting miniatures. I fell Into this hobby and will never stop now.
@4:08 was that a comission artist? I went to Adepticon and did not see their booth and would love to know.

Nick at at AdeptiCon this year and has run several events at the con over the years.
I missed the opportunity to quote a Bold song there...
@@MatthiasWeeks it's not too late. Quote away.
Matthias already knows this, but the connection between hardcore and gaming is pretty strong - Ncik from Halfmasr
Oh man that was a great interview thanks Scot!
Excellent work as always dude.
This was incredibly interesting, super well done. 😁❤️👍🏻
Amazing interview video thank you for sharing!!!
such a great video! well done!

Great video i loved getting all the back story of Adepticon. You should do the NOVA OPEN next.
Best part of the video: "Parking garage."
For real, great stuff; terrific video.
Well damn... I actually got to talk Matt as well when I was up there but this blows my interview out of the water. Great job Scott
I'm all the way up in BC Canada, but I've really wanted to go to Adepticon for a few years. I definitely want to try and make it next year!
Move it to McCormick Place Ample parking - Easy public Transit - Great stuff around the area
Very informative! I always appreciate videos about the history of the hobby cause there really isn’t too much out there!

Shortly into the video, I forgot what channel I was watching... just goes to show how well done* this is!
Great vid as always! Top notch production quality my guy
This was incredible. Great job Miniac
This is a great interview 👍👍
Amazing job. You are really, really good at this sort of videos, dude.
Great flow in both audio and visuals!
This was a great insight into this massive con. A different approach to than all the “see all this amazing stuff at this year’s Adepticon” videos.
Great insight into the con. I loved this style of vid!
Scott, this video is amazing. Thank you for so eloquently putting it together. Why Adepticon? Points to this....
I wish them all the luck with future plans! Hopefully they can find a bigger space over the next few years!
Love seeing clips of non-GW games! There are other games out there that are amazing
4:34 - FREEBLADES! GREAT game!
Once you start down the path of historical wargaming it will forever dominate your destiny.
maybe in a few years, when the Bears build the dome stadium in Arlington Heights IL, the new venue. ;)

Did you enter in Golden Demon??? You told me last year you would!
@@Miniac wasnt able to make it to the con this year due to a LOT of shenanigans- really bummed out about it. Next year for sure!
This video / format is kickass. I have answers to questions I didn't know I wanted to ask. Also, you're production quality is ace. Well done sir.
Looking for more space? Come to Minnesota! We've got the whole Minnesota State Faire Grounds you could use!
NOVA this year? Would be nice to see you cover some of the other cons.
I know Jon will be going! I think I'm not going to have time this year, sadly.

not a single dislike! well done scott!
Be great to shine the light on the volunteers that help out.
Question - is Gorkamorka at Adepticon? If not, why not?
Fascinating video! Had no idea such a massive show is run by basically enthusiastic amatures
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
This is an amazing video. I hope the founders understand how much this means to everyone in our hobby. Thank you for everything.
This is dope
Any idea what the blue army is at 7:05 ?
Great vid! Sad I couldn't go.
Who made the models at the 2:57 mark?
My dream is to finally get a job (im just finishing uni) that can support my hobby and coming to things like this without causing stress
Great video
This was GREAT 👍
Most dope! +1 engagement 🙌🏻
I do like this marvellous video..thank you!
What is the game they are playing at minute 4:30??
Nice you caught a clip of a silent vincey v "Sure."
Matt I salute you! Good form 👌
I love adepticon!
Liked the interview, but missed you, Scott! I think you make great story arcs in your videos and I think the interview could have benefited from a bit of narration :)
God I want to go one year. Too bad I'm in NZ...
I wish we had one in Canada.
Plan to get over for the convention in 2025
Hoping to get a group of French guys to come along too
Rosemont Horizon?
What are you pointing at with your thumb when you said you were at adepticon?
The direction of AdeptiCon, of course. ;)
Bit difficult with having to be games workshop, but I would like to see an oversize model like a bust for next year
