    • @PKMNwater
      @PKMNwater 2 ปีที่แล้ว +56

The type is called "Sea Dragon" in Japanese, and it's mostly reserved for things specifically to do with water-related mythology that don't otherwise fit in with fish or aqua. Since Jormungarder is specifically something that exists in air/space, it wouldn't fit as a "Sea Dragon" as Konami tries to define it.
Of course they're not always consistent with their decisions, but this one has some logic behind it.

Why isn't Soul Drain Dragon on this list? Borderline unsummonable, has an effect that seems okay for a comeback at first until you realize it locks your opponent out of taking any damage, cannot attack directly ever and does nothing on the opponent's turn other than stand there (which, as we've made clear, your opponent is GETTING a next turn, because you can't do damage to them this turn!).

Jormundgardr actually saw some play is Duel Links when it came out due to the prevalence of Enemy Controller. It was a gimmick deck that summoned Odin, gave Jormundgardr to your opponent, used Enemy Controler on jt to inrlict 3000 damage, then used Odin to beat over Jormundgardr for the last 1000 dmg. And it was easier to set up than most othe gimmick decks at the time.

To make Baby Tiragon even more obselete, there is a card known as "Opti-Camouflage Armor" which reads:
"You can only equip this card to a Level 1 monster. A monster equipped with this card can attack your opponent's Life Points directly."
This is a searchable equip spell which power creeps baby Tiragon in every way, also Baby Tiragon came out AFTER this card to make matters worse.

I believe it even asks if youve played before. Then you can go through some of the chapters which introduce you to various arctypes and walks you through their gimmics and lore.
Plus in general playing a computer version yugioh is a lot easier to start out with since it does a bunch of the legwork with keeping track of active effects, prompting you when things can be activated and limiting choices to whats legal, its how i first got into the game with Legacy of the duelist.

I kinda wish Tiragon could have had the effect of "Detach a material to allow a Level or Rank 1 monster to attack directly" So that it could at least be a card that would let players learn the difference between levels and ranks.
Edit: The Nordic Serpent is a reference to Norse Mythology, in which it is a terror for the Norse Gods whose release signified Ragnarök, the end of the world. In essence, it's not _supposed_ to have synergy with the other Nordic or Asier cards because of real-world lore reasons. Same with Fenrir. Both are tied to Ragnarök and are active detriments to the Norse Gods. Guess which trickster is responsible for them though. MCU fans, say it with me: "Goddammit, Loki."

Jormungarder and Fenrir both summon to the opponent field because in Norse Mythology these two kill Odin and Thor respectively during Ragnarök, so the thing about special summoned to your opponents field makes sense from a scholarship stand point, however Konami took this a step too far or not far enough (depending on your perspective) when designing this cards, if these cards were like Kaijus or Lava Golem, they would be better.

0:00 I know this is unrelated to a list of dragon-types, but I had a fun idea for a “Magician” support card:
    _Mad Magicians Magical Hat_
    Equip Spell Card
_This Card can only be equipped to a Spellcaster Monster. Once per turn you may roll 1 or 2 6-sided die, then activate one of the following effects:_
⚫️ Increase either players LP or the ATK and/or DEF of a monster on the field by the result of number rolled X100
⚫️ Increase or Decrease the level/rank of a monster on the field or in your hand by the number you rolled.
⚫️ Special Summon 1 Spellcaster or Beast monster from your hand, deck or GY who’s level/rank is equal to the number you rolled
_Once per turn, If a Spellcaster you control would be destroyed by battle or card effect, you may instead banish this card and the monster it is equipped to until the beginning of your next turn, and can place 1 “Magical” or “Magician” spell or trap card from your hand or deck facedown on the field._

    • @shreknskrubgaming7248

I'm no card designer, but it seems too inconsistent to really be viable and the first effect feels a little unnecessary. You're only getting 1200 ATK or LP max and that hardly seems worth it. If you could special summon a monster with a level equal to OR lower than the number you rolled, that would be better in my opinion, but still a bit inconsistent. Maybe I'm missing something because I don't play Magicians, but it seems a bit weak. Not to mention it's susceptible to banish effects.

I can fine tune that a little… Besides, the card is meant to bring a little goofy chaos in an competitively impactful way:
      _Mad Magicians Magical Hat_
      Equip Spell Card
_This Card can only be equipped to a Spellcaster Monster. This card cannot be destroyed while equipped to a monster. Twice per turn you may roll 1 or 2 6-sided die, then activate one of the following effects (you can only use each effect once per turn):_
⚫️ Increase either players LP by the result of the number rolled x200.
⚫️ Decrease either players LP by the result of the number rolled X100.
⚫️ Increase or Decrease the ATK and/or DEF of a monster on the field by the result of number rolled X100.
⚫️ Increase or Decrease the level/rank of a monster on the field or in your hand by the number you rolled.

And what I mean by “Magician” isn’t any particular group of them so much as ANY card in the game with the word “Magician” in its name. And there are A LOT of targets to go by with that logic, from across almost all eras of the game.

The rule as far as I know is that a monster can only have 4 subtypes, and one of them HAS to be the main types of monster it is.
So if it’s a dragon monster it HAS to say it’s a dragon.
If it’s a Fusion monster it HAS to say it’s a fusion.
If it’s an effect monster, it HAS to say effect.
So going by the above I could only fit in, for example, Dragon/Union/Link/effect, or Dragon/Gemini/Link/effect
If you’re dead set on cramming more types into a card, you could use “Pendulum” in place of “effect” to shift the effect to the pendulum one.
So THAT a would leave me with a Dragon/Pendulum/Gemini/Union.

Some other contenders which I think are worth mentioning:
-Montage Dragon, which can only be summoned by sending three monsters from your hand to the GY, and is just a (probably) big beater. Admittedly, it will probably be a very big beater, and has the potential to be an incredibly big beater, but it's still not worth going -3 to summon it.
-Dragonic Guard, which you might be able to use to summon a level 1 Dragon from your deck. If you have a Double Summon or a way to special summon it and then normal another monster.
-Felgrand Dragon, which is a level 8 that can't be special summoned, except from the GY, and only if it was sent there from the field. And the rest of its effect just boosts its atk.
-Lava Dragon, which has a useful effect (summons a level 3 or lower Dragon from your hand and one from GY), but which requires it to be tributed in face-up Defense Position to use.
-Rare Metal Dragon, which is a 2400 atk level 4, but can't be normal summoned or set, so the fact that it's a level 4 doesn't even matter much. I know there are some circumstances where its level does matter, but the vast majority of the time, you'd be better off with either a slightly weaker level 4 that you can normal summon if you need to, or a higher level monster that could have even more atk, and could also be tribute summoned if you really need to.
-Dragon Master Knight, which is just a big beater made from materials that are already hard to summon. Various fusion substitute cards certainly make it easier, but it's still not worth it. Its best use is as the biggest possible Punishment target, but that's a six-way tie, so it's not that special.

@@coyraig8332 Is your point that it would be bad balance because regular normal monsters would be useless then? In your estimation at least. Because normals would still get used if they are part of an archetype. If they have good stat lines, good type/attribute/level combinations. Normal monsters will always get used. The problem is Konami is shit at making Yu-Gi-Oh!.
The game is beyond repair, and I can't believe how many players think summoning half your deck or more and duels only lasting 2 or 3 turns is good. That is way too fast with way too much happening at one time, and it makes it nearly insurmountable for new players. But holy shit do I digress. Sorry for the rant. Point is, if Konami can be bothered to make normal monsters with smart stat, level, attribute and type combinations and make them work in archetypes or compatible with multiple support options, they will get used. Special summoning even a normal monster is pretty good.
Some of those types of normals already exist, like Blue-Eyes. Sure, it's not played itself, and it's not meta BUT it is a very key piece in an archetype that sees wide play. And its archetype isn't that bad anyways. Well, I don't know if that is the best example, but Ultimate Dragon saw play specifically because it was a normal monster. Though I understand that the latter example is more what you are talking about than the former. Still, the more use for normal monsters the better. Less text to read. But clearly, I love text judging from my long reply. Sorry! I kind of ramble. Hopefully you got my gist.

Jormungandr and Fenrir are purely for completing the lore of the nordic cards. Fenrir and Jormungandr fight the nordic gods during Ragnorok according to nordic mythology and are responsible for killing some of them. That's why Konami made them so they can only be summoned to the opponents field with barely any benefit to you. They're just poorly designed cards through and through, honestly. Jormun didn't even get to shine until DL, and even there, they're just killing the opponent rather than your own Aesir monsters (unlike Nordic lore). It's hilarious.

The one thing I can say about Diabolos, it is a 2 Tribute monster. But if I remember right it's meant to be the boss of the Lair of Darkness archetype. So it's supposed to be used with that. Trouble is it has no mention of that, so anyone trying to summon it outside of that deck will utterly struggle. So it's almost useless outside of it's archetype and in archetype it does little then being a big boi and a way to possibly deny the opponent good draws.
Though one funny thing, Diabolos does have Mega Monarch statline. So could be searched with Monarch cards.

I think the worst kicker for Kiryu is that Dark Blade had another Union, Pitch-Dark Dragon, which it could at least fuse with to form a somewhat more useful monster. If they had given Kiryu a fusion as well, then it still would be on the list, but I would personally rank it a bit higher than some of the worst union monsters solely because it has an additional use that they lack.
The Nordic monsters are just there to fit the actual lore of the archetype. Are they bad for the deck? Yes, but they actually have a reason to be like that if you actually do some research. Not every card is made for the meta or to be intentionally bad. Some cards are made to fit a theme, tell a story or just be cool references.

Sadly this was still the time where structure deck boss monsters were god awful, so it's way too hard to summon and even actively counteracts its own archetype by not even being a viable tribute for eradicator epidemic virus.
