Honestly, as good as Brothership was, I feel like it had a few more things that got voided, namely Bowser and Zokket not having their own themes, not even a little twist to make them sound more fitting to their characters (heck, Zokket coulda had some Grodus-esque sfx in his). Also a battle gauntlet for postgame, the (EDIT AFTER GAME'S 3 MONTHS OLD) was fine, but it felt a bit lacking despite the difficulty spike, was thinking they'd give you all the mid and big bosses, let you choose what level you want to face them at, then let you sock it to them (Aka, let me choose to fight a Lv 100 Gobblick).
1 The Grand Finale (BIS) 2 Never Let Up (DT) 3 Tough Guy Alert (BIS) 4 Okey Dokey (BIS) 5 Another's Requiem (PIT) 6 Try, Try Again/Victory in the Dream World (DT) 7 Battle (Brothership) 8 Attack the Enemy (PIT)
This kinda feels unfair, but after nearly an hour of listening to the 3DS tracks under such heavy compression, the Brothership tracks with their full band performances and sound quality felt like a damn flashbang lmao They brought in a full band for the first game where Yoko Shimomura wasn't on the composition team, this feels like a crime - jokes aside though Hideki Sakamato killed it
Best take, all the mario & luigi games are good and some are better than others ofc but non and I mean non are bad. Also the music is and will always be peak.
I personally like Another's Requiem. It isn't like many other battle themes, where they are epic or silly. AR dispells fear into the player. The usual silliness of M&L seems to fade away in that moment. Hence, why I enjoy the uniqueness of this theme so much.
My problem with Brothership's music, and Brothership in-general, is that it falls under the same fault of Nintendo watering down and genericizing all their properties and expecting barebones concepts advertised as wildly innovative to be accepted as such when they're really nothing special. This soundtrack falls under the same qualms as Breath of the Wild and Pikmin 4's soundtracks, they're background music with no real hooks or draws in a game series *known* for that. Notice how none of the Brothership themes have strong, forefront melodies like past games? It's just a bunch of instruments that blend together to sit nicely in the background, not to carry through and affect what's happening and your feelings/gameplay. They captured the right tone of music, but it's a watered down, more basic version of video game music. There's no melodies that mimic lyrics on-top of the rest of the instrumentation, and that's the biggest fault not just in this game but a few others recently. Even Mario Wonder has this problem in comparison to say Mario Bros. Wii. It's still baby steps to get out of what Nintendo has been doing to their game series lately.
Mario fans are so used to having good games that they have to look for a needle in a haystack to be able to say bad things about them, hahaha. My first game in the series was Brothership, and I loved it! I intend to play the others too.
I'm maybe the only one to say this but the final boss of partner in time is the only one who really make me feel worried for the bros . I meen the boss is really hard when you are a child and it's really scary for a mario and luigi . But now the ost is just perfect for a final boss
I am loving Brothership so far, nearing the end but not there yet. But the boss themes have been.. eh. The battle theme is fine, it's catchy enough, but like some of the bosses have way more intense presentation than the song provides. They're not bad songs by any means, they're just very unfitting to a lot of the situations. Well I'll hope the final boss theme goes hard, it's a requirement of this series.
I love that the Brothership battle themes don’t try to be like Yoko Shimomura, they are their own style, and that’s good. I would rather a new composer do their own style of music than try to copy the previous composer and have it come off poorly.
Probably because it doesn’t has the epic Final Showdown Flare like the other Final Boss Themes of the Series, however in my opinion it is fitting Reclusa perfectly because of how twisted and a pure maniac he is.
Games I've finished: Superstar Saga (GBA) I'll give my thoughts on the game at a later date (below) but for now, I'll just say the series is growing on me. And quickly.
After finally finishing Brothership and doing almost every side quest, putting a little over 31 hours into my final save file, I just wish the normal battle theme had an extra little something to it. I don't think the Brothership OST is bad, it's certainly no stranger to great themes (both boss battle themes are incredible) but the normal battle theme just doesn't stick with you like BIS, DT, or even SS. It falls into that same category that Paper Jam is in, where it's an alright theme but there's just something missing that's holding it back from greatness. Looking back, maybe it's just the modern Paper Mario music vibe present in both OSTs that doesn't really sell the Mario and Luigi vibe for the battle theme, but even then that's not right because the boss themes are phenomenal in both games...
You know what, I think it might be the fact that there's no distinguishable lead during the build up, only the bit during the chorus, mixed with the fact that the song is simply too short imo. It loops too quickly and doesn't have much of a lead to it so it sounds like you're trying to remember how the rest of the song goes, but all you can remember is the main chorus and the start up.
@@jclkaytwo at no point did I say they were bad themes, but Paper Jam's main battle theme was better than Brothership's. Modern Paper Mario music is good, but it has it's own vibe that's similar, yet entirely separate from what Mario and Luigi music conveys. Again, my big gripe with the Brothership OST is almost entirely with the normal battle theme
I’d say soundtrack wise I’d rank the games ( not including the side modes, and also I haven’t heard these complete soundtracks, but I’ll make this work): 1. Dream Team (SACRED SOMNOM WOODS, SIZE UP YOUR ENEMY, NEVER LET UP, ADVENTURES END, AND VICTORY IN THE DREAM WORLD!!!). 2. Brothership ( Honestly….I’m not sure why… I really like the main boss theme, battle theme, title screen theme….. and weirdly enough the music in the intro cutscene…) 3. Paper Jam ( the final boss theme is fire!). 4. Bowser’s Inside Story ( I’ve heard In The Final too many times :/ ). 5. Superstar Saga( the battle theme is classic :) ). 6. Partners In Time ( like with Brothership I’m not sure why…… I will say though that I love Bowser theme, and also the 2 final boss themes)
Dream Team was definitely peak of the series. If we be honest, we just rate Bowsers inside Story higher bc of the Dark Bowser boss theme and the nostalgia.
I still have to finish Brothership, currently at Zokket Castle entrance after going over the barrier, so i didnt listen to the last songs on the list. The thing is: SuperStar Saga has fine, quirky osts. It was the firs title, and did a good job as the series introduction. Partner's in Time, they went super hard. And dont let me started on the final boss theme... Shivers down my spine, tears running down my eyes.. Its a beauty. Bowser's Inside Story, my goat. My very first Mario and Luigi title, that made me discover this magical series. The favorite child. Yes i said it. The Grand Finale ost is still one of my favorite final boss osts in all videogames. But stuff like Tough Guy Alert! or the Bowser's muscle stimulation minigames are incredible bangers as well. Dream Team came, and boi this game is a beauty. If it wasnt clear enough, Luigi was the goat already, and they made it clear with this one. Antasma's final battle and Adventure's End are too good. Then there was Paper Jam... And heres come the forgotten child. The game was fine, but it didnt have the same kick that the previous titles had.. Id happily play the previous titles all over again, but this one? Not that much. The osts are good, but not great. SuperStar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story remixes are overall good, it was peak already, its peak again. But they went over beyond with the fight against the Dark Star and Dark Fawful. Brothership is an incredible game, IGN is a bunch of clowns. The ost, however, doesnt hit me as much as the previous titles did. They are fine, dont get me wrong, but they dont stick on me similar as Tough Guy Alert did, for example. I have yet to finish the game tho, so i could have a different opinion afterwards. For now, Brothership stands tall alongside Partners in Time and Dream Team in 2nd place for me.
best music in Mario and Luigi brothership is the battle theme imo In the beginning i didn’t really like it, but now for me it’s actually a banger (IMO tho)
To summarize some people's thoughts: "Waaaaah! Brothership music different! Not Yoko so therefore baaaaaaaad!" The tracks are just as fire as BIS, DT, SS, PIT, etc. Y'all just need some time to get used to it.
If aquire actually was good with m&l bs's theme names. Battle - Beating Bonds! Boss Battle 1 - You Snooze, U Cruise! Boss Battle 2 - Extend-o-SLAM!! High Speed Battle - Record Boostin Final Boss 1 - Seeds of Solitude Final Boss 2 - Solitary Storm
I never knew why Dream team used to be an underrated game because for me i always found the game very well done on how amazingly the art work has went to it but i understood aout the gameplay that it was looking Pixelated and i know that this was one of the longest mario and luigi games in the past now brothership has sirpassed it i always thought the souttrack was amazing in this game and yes it still is my most favorite ones are the battle themes ofc i liked the overworld and dreamworld battle themes made me i want to lsiten to these in my mind and somewhere else :p i never thought how the boss battle themes were but i liked the Antasma theme tho it felt underrated i liked the finall boss theme tho :3 *i dont really know why this game is underrated and even in the past.
Yea brothership is nowhere near yoko shimamura but it still has hype, soul, speed, energy, recognizability. All just less than yoko... i mean hell the final boss themes are so so much weaker and more "corporate" than the tunes from ye olden days
There's no denying they're all banger themes, but the original Superstar Saga will never be topped imo, there's something special about the compressed audio samples that just can't be replicated with modern remixes. Perhaps it's nostalgia, but the second I hear that crunchy "Let's-a go! Okie dokie!" and Come On! kicks in, I'm jamming Brothership doesn't feel really Mario and Luigi to me, maybe bc they went full big band and that feels more Paper Mario to me. Maybe it'll grow on me more later on, like how Partners in Time's main battle theme did.
Nobody gassing up Crisis of the Red and Green.... I see. Well, here's my hot take: the only Bowser's Inside Story track that surpasses Partners In Time's battle OST is Grand Finale. The whole OST is a different story, but I never did like BIS's battle themes much.
1.Grand Finale DX (Bowser Inside Story + Bowser Jr Journey) 2.Big Bang (Paper Jam) 3.Mixed Up Sramble (Paper Jam) 4.Though Guy Alert (Bowser Inside Story) 5.Battle (Brothership)
people give paper jam to much flak, sure the story was bad but the way they did character interactions was great and interesting especially with all the special battle mechanics. The Bowser Jr's felt less like a fight and more like them and the bros playing games together. Also Big Bang! and Final Battle are some of the BEST sound tracks.

Final Antasma Battle theme is goated. Best theme ever
🗣️Best Normal Battle theme: Show Time
🗣️Best Boss Battle Theme: Never Let Up
🗣️ Best Final Boss Battle Theme: Adventure's end
damn showtimes my least favourite but more power to ya my friend😆
Where is grand finale
Brothership's ost, including the final boss themes, are all amazing. Sick of the Yoko fanboys trashing it.
2:10:27 ok but the drums here go CRAZY hard
The drums really want to guide your heartbeat and those Trumpets and Air Instrument really want to drill in your blood pressure.
You my friend are a god send
44:13 that spiny dodge is insane
1 The Grand Finale (BIS)
2 Never Let Up (DT)
3 Tough Guy Alert (BIS)
4 Okey Dokey (BIS)
5 Another's Requiem (PIT)
6 Try, Try Again/Victory in the Dream World (DT)
7 Battle (Brothership)
8 Attack the Enemy (PIT)
Hot take: Partners In Time is SO UNDERRATED. It might be my favorite in the entire series and I never see like any love for it 😭
WE ARE SO BACK EVERYONE
Try, try again was literally fire
This kinda feels unfair, but after nearly an hour of listening to the 3DS tracks under such heavy compression, the Brothership tracks with their full band performances and sound quality felt like a damn flashbang lmao
They brought in a full band for the first game where Yoko Shimomura wasn't on the composition team, this feels like a crime - jokes aside though Hideki Sakamato killed it
Best take, all the mario & luigi games are good and some are better than others ofc but non and I mean non are bad.
I love tough Guy alert And never let up
The final antasma one is so fire, honestly the best in my opinion!
I liked the sync with the beat by the stomp stomp in victory in the dream world..even if it was only for one note
Mario fans are so used to having good games that they have to look for a needle in a haystack to be able to say bad things about them, hahaha. My first game in the series was Brothership, and I loved it! I intend to play the others too.
Y'all ever tried playing a sport while listening to these? It's amazing
I'm maybe the only one to say this but the final boss of partner in time is the only one who really make me feel worried for the bros . I meen the boss is really hard when you are a child and it's really scary for a mario and luigi . But now the ost is just perfect for a final boss
Decisive battle DX is SOO BANGER🗣🗣🔥🔥 (1:22:49)
I am loving Brothership so far, nearing the end but not there yet. But the boss themes have been.. eh. The battle theme is fine, it's catchy enough, but like some of the bosses have way more intense presentation than the song provides. They're not bad songs by any means, they're just very unfitting to a lot of the situations.
Well I'll hope the final boss theme goes hard, it's a requirement of this series.
I am also nearing the end. I love long games, so I’m still enjoying it, but the game just keeps teasing us with the final boss! Mario is edging us!
I love that the Brothership battle themes don’t try to be like Yoko Shimomura, they are their own style, and that’s good. I would rather a new composer do their own style of music than try to copy the previous composer and have it come off poorly.
All are straight Bangers! Im starting to warm up to Brothership, hyped game series return!!
I dont get the hate for brothership’s ost, its honestly pretty good and the battle themes get me hyped and pumped
(Hot take)brotherships final boss music is great(seriously why does everyone hate it so much?)
Probably because it doesn’t has the epic Final Showdown Flare like the other Final Boss Themes of the Series, however in my opinion it is fitting Reclusa perfectly because of how twisted and a pure maniac he is.
all of the memories I watched all the mario and luigi games is so good.
I love how most of these sound really Mario like but then for the final boss themes Shimomura locks tf in and lets the Kingdom Hearts style out
HE IS THE MESSIAH
Man i love you NEW PLAYLIST FOR MY SPEEDRUNS 🤩❤️ Thx
Parters in time and Bowawe's inside story are one of my favorite games in whole life.
I don’t see anybody give credit the Final Antasma fight. It’s a great track.
Games I've finished:
Superstar Saga (GBA)
I'll give my thoughts on the game at a later date (below) but for now, I'll just say the series is growing on me. And quickly.
40:46 peak
Can we ignore the music one sec and note that the people playing are absolutely throwing in a lot of those clips ?
It loops too quickly and doesn't have much of a lead to it so it sounds like you're trying to remember how the rest of the song goes, but all you can remember is the main chorus and the start up.
hey, give paper jam's battle theme some more credit. same with modern paper mario music.
51:42 that random motif to pokemon battle revolution
The OG come on! Still amazing the remake last that touch of the original
If we be honest, we just rate Bowsers inside Story higher bc of the Dark Bowser boss theme and the nostalgia.
this guy gets it
Ha ha ha *no*
Gotta respectfully (and heavily) disagree on that on, chief
I still have to finish Brothership, currently at Zokket Castle entrance after going over the barrier, so i didnt listen to the last songs on the list.
The thing is:
SuperStar Saga has fine, quirky osts.
For now, Brothership stands tall alongside Partners in Time and Dream Team in 2nd place for me.
brothership’s ost is awesome, why does everyone hate it
Idk
blinded by nostalgia
best music in Mario and Luigi brothership is the battle theme imo
In the beginning i didn’t really like it, but now for me it’s actually a banger
(IMO tho)
To summarize some people's thoughts:
"Waaaaah! Brothership music different! Not Yoko so therefore baaaaaaaad!"
The tracks are just as fire as BIS, DT, SS, PIT, etc. Y'all just need some time to get used to it.
Size up your ennemy from dream time is my fav, juts so much power
If we’re talking about the best battle theme it’s gotta be the Grand Finale from Browsers Inside Story
Bowser battle from PiT is the most underrated one
We are getting excellent attacks wit this one !
If aquire actually was good with m&l bs's theme names.
Battle - Beating Bonds!
Boss Battle 1 - You Snooze, U Cruise!
Boss Battle 2 - Extend-o-SLAM!!
High Speed Battle - Record Boostin
Final Boss 1 - Seeds of Solitude
Final Boss 2 - Solitary Storm
Mario and luigi superstar saga is literally the best one
I like the brothership Boss Battle theme 2
one is normal bosses the other is great lighthouse bosses
Let’s be honest all of the Mario and Luigi songs are banger’s especially Antasma Theme in Dream team
Unpopular opinion: Final boos theme from Partners in time is best than the theme of final boss of Bowser inside history
Say what you want about Paper Jam, that final boss theme is still my favorite in the series (Sorry Inside Story, your's is still amazing)
Hot take: never let up is better than grand finale
Not a hot take, BiS fans just speak louder than everyone else
(Btw adventure’s end is the coolest final boss theme of the series🗣️)
@tomou_ also agree
Dream team is better than BiS (someone had to say it)
@@Geobot3000 i love dream team and BiS equally
Cold take to me, lol! It’s one of the best battle themes in Mario as a whole to me!
57:53 Paper Mario + SuperStar Saga
Brothership final boss theme is just so... 🫤
It just doesn't hit the same way as the others
yessir. so corporate
Compared with other final bosses, it is obviously inferior.
Within context, the theme fits very well in my opinion but yeah definitely not as great as previous games
Why does everyone hate it so much, its decent at best
Sss and pit got that max nostalgia
My favorite song of all time is actually try, try again which I will die on
Yea brothership is nowhere near yoko shimamura but it still has hype, soul, speed, energy, recognizability. All just less than yoko... i mean hell the final boss themes are so so much weaker and more "corporate" than the tunes from ye olden days
Ngl bowsers inside story fits the brothers to well
There's no denying they're all banger themes, but the original Superstar Saga will never be topped imo, there's something special about the compressed audio samples that just can't be replicated with modern remixes. Perhaps it's nostalgia, but the second I hear that crunchy "Let's-a go! Okie dokie!" and Come On! kicks in, I'm jamming
Brothership doesn't feel really Mario and Luigi to me, maybe bc they went full big band and that feels more Paper Mario to me.
Whenever I hear the battle theme from Superstar Saga, I always think of Beverly Hills Cop.
Dream Team is my favorite game in the series, in spite of the tutorials
Really upset Bowser or Zokket didn’t get their own boss theme song in Brothership. It was a little disappointing.
1.Grand Finale DX (Bowser Inside Story + Bowser Jr Journey)
2.Big Bang (Paper Jam)
3.Mixed Up Sramble (Paper Jam)
4.Though Guy Alert (Bowser Inside Story)
5.Battle (Brothership)
Dream team player did NOT have a lot of bros moves
i like come on again the most
Nothing can beat Victory in the dream world.
people give paper jam to much flak, sure the story was bad but the way they did character interactions was great and interesting especially with all the special battle mechanics. The Bowser Jr's felt less like a fight and more like them and the bros playing games together. Also Big Bang! and Final Battle are some of the BEST sound tracks.
En resúmen, los primeros Ost, es decir, los de pelea común, son los mejores y no pienso discutirlo 🗣🗣
BIS's soundtrack reminds so much of Kingdom Hearts.
starts with peak
Brotherships final boss music sounds meh compared to even charge and clash from the side mode
