It's a solid sign of a great video when it takes you straight back! Those sunny days (and sauna night) was definitely a highlight of the year, glad to meet such a great bunch of divers:)
Fun fact: Minnesota's nickname is the land of 10000 lakes and Finland's is the land of a thousand lakes :D Also fun fact: Minnesota actually has 11842 lakes and Finland has 187,888.

Thanks for sharing this with all of us, this competition had to be incredible to live yet Amazingly exciting to watch. I hope you keep sharing this moments with us all. I love your videos man
Hey Daniel, I really really enjoy your content and have been subscribed for I think a year or so now. I live in the Midwest United States so I really excited to see you post this fresh water video because that is really only what I have available to me locally. I would really like to see some more actual spear fishing next time if possible. You do such a great job at putting a story together along side of amazing shots. I know the fresh water probably didn’t yield for the coolest looking shots and I’m sure you were pretty focused on the tournament but if you ever get the chance again I would love to see more of the video of you shooting those pike and any fresh water fish! Great stuff man!
I would really like to get into spearfishing but I live here in Finland. This video really encouraged me that its possible and likeable here even though the visibility might not be the best
Yet another great vid! keep up the good work. Love it when your vids show big fish! that always makes the experience way better for me (but i will never get tired of a Dentex hunt)
Another outstanding video Dan! I love how friendly everyone is at these European comps, I'd love to experience it one day in person 🙂 Is there any particular reason why you didn't film during the comp?
Thanks Ethan. Come over to Denmark in May for the Scorpena cup, I’ll dive with you! I didn’t want to get distracted in the comp and also looking in the reeds is a pain with the head cam!
@@DanielMann Ooooh I'm starting work next year pretty much full time so will have to see if I can take time off, but I'm definitely interested! Yeah thought that might be the case 😅
I grew up spear fishing in a lake so this is cool to see how you went. It looks like most of your scouting you kind of did in the middle of the lake- i find that closer to the shore around the grass and roots is where I have more luck personally.
Yet another great video with some good insights! I really appreciate the sparing use of music in this one. It brings me closer to the actual events when there is less music. This was a tasteful amount. 🤙
@Arthur Diepersloot can't you spearfish in het grevelingenmeer? I was sailing there this summer and clear water and full of seals so there must be some good fish in there too? I wish I had some gear when I was up there... and maybe look for lakes with clear water?
Love the video like always. One day I'll begin! Just have no clue where to start in NJ and no experience in the water. Makes your videos all the more exciting and enjoyable!
Another amazing video Dan, looks like you all had a great time even if it was hard going at times! Thanks for taking the time to provide another year of amazing videos and I hope you have a lovely Christmas mate 👍
Hey Daniel, quick question about Polosub fastening. I have seen that in your 7 mm you have frog and in the 3 mm you have Velcro. Which one is better in your opinion and why?
Great vid Dan. What spearguns have you used there? 3m visibility is great for lakes. Mostly i use 55cm pneumatic gun Pelengas Varvar. Probably one of the best guns for fresh water spearfishing.
They were all processed and eaten. Catch and release fishing kills fish all the time as well with poorly hooked fish or barotrauma, end result is the same except we don’t waste the fish by eating it.
It’s an unfair advantage because it stops natural dehydration of the fish. If there are 50 people to weigh in and you are last those few hours in a hotter climate like Greece could be the difference between a fish weighing or not.
Can’t wait to see you come over to New Zealand Daniel! Would love to show you around a few spots but I’ve just broken my leg, keen to see you get a nice kingy and live vicariously through you haha good luck!
i am scared of diving fresh water, this video gave me an idea how it feels like. ill try it soon at Minit lake, Philippines, 4rth largest. great video as always sir. thanks for sharing..
Great video Daniel! As we can see from the video the visibility is not the greatest in those huge lakes here in Finland, but that makes competition much more interesting atleast my opinion. If you keep searching here are a lot small lakes and ponds with chrystal clear water and huge perchies and trouts over there 😊👍🏻
Spearfishing in fresh water is much more easy than salt water because of the water quality as in there is no waves and you dont need to go as deep and the gear requirements are much less and most of my spearfishing is in lake taupo new zealand for catfish
we are making canned fish out of them nowdays. DR.Jaatinen introduced this to us and it's gooooood!! I hear Russians make salted Roach that is supposedly amazing with a beer.
A shame they shot those nice perch. Don't mind shooting the small stuff but when you shoot actual nice sized fish it's sad. Kinda the same with those 4-5ish kg pike.
Great video, not eaten Pike for a while, seem to recall many bones! Very impressed with the time travel element to the competition, reminds of a limerick, There was a young lady called Bright, whos speed was faster than light, She left one day in a relative way, And returned the prevoius night! Love the videos Daniel!
Not so much losing our minds as wondering why anyone would want to kill something they are not going to eat. Given the water quality it's a surprise that the fish are so small don't you think?...
Pike is amazing to eat 👌 in belgium we always eat them if they're big enough! I guess pretty much any fish that eats other fish is good eating. Those are the fish I hunt in Australia now
not enough underwater clips, why not use a gopro while spearing, to see what your doing (maybe it was said in the video, but i couldnt bother watching it all when i dont even see stuff)
Why are they different to any other fish that is for consumption? Catch and release has it's mortalities as well from foul hooking or hooked in the gills. Not to mention broken jaws so the fish can't feed anymore.
Hello Daniel, passionate freediver, fisheries biologist and soon to be spearfisher here. I cant help but feel there is a lack of ethics and appreciation for the fish in your videos and the spearfishing community in general sometimes. Especially in comparison to terrestrial hunting. I mean after the 2nd scouting day you caught two good pikes (little bit on the younger side?) but pretty unappreciative beacause of competition. I am not even sure you ate them all. Then for the 4th scouting day you planned to shoot some fish just for the eyes to get dialed in. I mean wtf... I really enjoyed this video about freshwater spearfishing, but it made me kinda evaluate the sensibility of competitive hunting/killing.
Mate I'm never disappointed with any of your videos quality, content and editing is always absolutly incredible. Keep up the great work
Cheers Philip!
Awesome to see how much effort goes into these events in terms of scouting preparation! Thanks for another great video to make the cold day warmer!

How do you find out about these competitions?
Being part of the National governing body for spearfishing. Each country has their own.

Man, i wish i wouldve known you were here! D:
As a corse angler it’s hard to see fish being pointlessly killed. What happened to all the fish
They were all processed and eaten. Catch and release fishing kills fish all the time as well with poorly hooked fish or barotrauma, end result is the same except we don’t waste the fish by eating it.
When killing those big pike/perch you remove some of the best genetics in the lake. There are not many of those.
I didnt understand why the turkish team was sent to the back of the line for using a plastic bag? can you explain the rule a little more please?
It’s an unfair advantage because it stops natural dehydration of the fish. If there are 50 people to weigh in and you are last those few hours in a hotter climate like Greece could be the difference between a fish weighing or not.
Can’t wait to see you come over to New Zealand Daniel! Would love to show you around a few spots but I’ve just broken my leg, keen to see you get a nice kingy and live vicariously through you haha good luck!

Why. you get some random fish on a rod that might survive or not. But spearfishing you get what you want

Please stick to saltwater. Very sad to see pike killed like that. European fishermen do their best to promote catch and release in freshwater lakes
