Great video Ethan! Agree on all your points especially trying new spots. It’s so easy to get stuck in the rut of going to the same areas. I always try and dive somewhere new or swim a bit further each time I’m out.
hi Daniel i,m a twelve year old spearo whos been spearfish for only about three years and now i,m absolutely adcted to spearfishing and through trying to learn how to spearfish when i was beginning through yotube quickly made me a great fan of yours after this whole covid thing you should seriously consider spearfishing New Zealand monster snapper trevalley kingfish tuna and kahawai
Magic drink: 4 whole Beets, garlic, whole chicken breast, arugala, pickle juice, berries, honey, cinnamon, box of low sodium chicken bone broth, vitamin, iron supplement. Toss it all in a Vitamix and blend thoroughly. Get yourself a large open mouth Nalgene bottle with a carabeaner and attach it to your gear. Get yourself another Nalgene and fill it with cucumber water and some tart cherry, maybe cranberry juice and attach that to your gear. Bring a couple large bottles of water with sturdy construction/bottle caps. Don't want those tearing or having flimsy bottle caps that bust threads and leak. Now you'll be hydrated, nutritioned, and steadily energized all day. Magic drink has literally saved my life on two separate occasions where I was trapped out at sea over night. Don't dive without it!
Great list and pointers you shared, cheers. For me learning to equalise properly and correct/efficient duck diving, breathing and finning techniques. Pretty much learning how to freedive has been something I wish I did earlier. So much to learn when starting, I’m two years into spearing and still learning so much every dive
Thanks for watching mate, glad you were able to take something away. I totally get you, there’s so much to learn when it comes to spearfishing and it’s never ending journey, but that’s the joy of it 😁
We are so lucky here in South Australia to have the variety of waters to dive/fish. Go south and you hit the kelp and the cold waters of the Southern Ocean. Go north in the gulfs to the warmer and more comfortable conditions and then there's the mighty West Coast....we are so spoiled. That was a great list of thinks to ponder over. My best fishing experience came after joining a fish club. 👌
Hey mate. Im very new to spear fishing. By new i mean i havent got any gear yet. Your video helped me out heaps. Im from sa so id like to know whats a good spot to practice spearing locally? Im northern suburbs. Im not asking for hot spots, just a spot i can legally get around and practice shooting a speargun. And if im lucky ill get dinner. Thanks.

Thank you so much. I start spearfishing soon and this was amazing. I honestly wish I could shake your hand and thank you. I know this can be dangerous af. You prolly saved someone's life with this
Seriously nice guide Ethan! Mine are pretty similiar! Would love to make a clip like this aswell soon to stress a lot of the same points but definately auper necessary!
LOL, you have now officially become a spearo Elder, welcome Uncle Ethan! Nice video BTW, apologies for laughing so hard at 0:10, but that was too funny for words, you probably heard me all the way over there in S.A ! Thought I'd add re gear, you can buy good quality 2nd hand high end gear. Good quality stuff lasts a life time and can be cleaned up. Cheap crap is just frustrating and the reality is if you buy cheap crap, it doesn't last, it keeps failing and you have no fun. Buy once, buy right! Save yourself a heap of cash, have more fun and get that one fish. I love just capturing fish on film as well. So 6 might be get a camera to record the fun. My Son just got a Hero 3 Black and housing for $50. Takes great quality 1080HD60FPS video, he is having a ball. Dive Safe, have some Fun!
Haha yikes if I'm an elder at 23 I wonder what I'll be in 20 years time 😂 Haha that clip at 0:10 was one of the saddest days of my life!!! Yes that is very great point, getting QUALITY gear. Buy one, buy right, that's a perfect line that sums up buying spearing gear. I play on making a video in the future dedicated just to gear, so don't mind me I'll be stealing that line 😉 Awesome having a camera is definitely a game changer and also allows you to look back and analyse your hunting and movements 👍

@@SilvermanAdventuresFishing that’s unfortunate to hear, seems like you’ve been having a bad year with the weather 😓 I wish diving wasn’t so weather dependent haha
You forgot to mention using the moon as reference to know how the tides are, full moons and new moons are the worst since it's when the moon is closest to the earth and has a stronger pull on the water.
