The studio (at least the vast majority of it, along with leadership) is the cancer. Much like many of these development studios, the newer staff is living off the glory (and destroying) the and reputation of the older staff. Those people are gone, and replaced with activists that don’t know how to write, or direct. The artists are talented, but it’s not enough any more to just keep your head down. They’re running beloved IP’s into the ground. It’s all by design to hijack the things we love, and ruin it. They’re incapable of following the famous recipe. Too heavy-handed with their politics and ideals. I’ll pass, unless there is a firm reassurance they’ll go back to basics. Otherwise, my backlog has me for the next 10 years, along with the handful of gems that come out every year.

A proper single player rated M SS game in the ArkhamVerse with Deathstroke as the main character fighting lower scaled villains (instead of the strongest person in DC Brainiac) imo would have went HARD. Deathstroke was so underutilized in the ArkhamVerse, it would’ve been perfect. Going from fighting Gotham criminals to fighting a multiversal threat has to me the most mind boggling decision I’ve ever seen. Like where do you even go from there?
Genuinely, even in the most optimistic scenario that Rocksteady is still capable of making a fantastic single-player game even after everything? I would rather they take a crack at a Superman game.
Game will be the Batman who laughs. You’ll start off as Batman, go up to him turning bad, then pick up playing as another variant who ultimately beats him teaming up with fan favorite Joker.
From what I've heard the reason for Suicide Squad was that Batman: Arkham Knight sales have fallen off a cliff - they are coming from 15M copies sold for Arkham City to 5M. At 70 US-Dollar, that's about 350M in revenue. Gotta keep in mind though that Arham Knight was much more linear and they might just go back to making a fully fledged Arkham Open World - you know with civilians, buildings that you can get into etc. They could make a Batman game that feels more like Nolans Dark Knight for example. They still have a prototype of that laying around, is what I've heard from someone who has worked for Warner before. So there is hope.
The creative team for Arkham Shadow seems to genuinely care about telling an Arkham story. If we have Rocksteady focusing on just perfecting what was already good in Arkham Knight while tweaking what doesn't work with some of the Arkham Shadow team focusing on telling a good story set in the Arkhamverse, then I have some hope. That being said, Rocksteady has lost my faith, but that doesn't mean Arkham is dead
One thing I’d like to add, is that Kevin Conroy’s performance as Batman is arguably the soul of the series. I’d be happy if Roger Craig Smith returned, but who knows if he’s even willing to do it.

All I want, ALL I want, is for somebody at Rocksteady to go back to Arkham Knight and patch in the ability to play whatever difficulty you want in New Game+, and to be able to replay New Game+ at any time on a single save.
I'm gonna try to be optimistic. From what we've been hearing, Arkham Shadow at least in the story department is a solid entry in the series (word of mouth says the gameplays not too shabby either), so maybe if Rocksteady and WB Montreal collaborated on an Arkham game, it could all work out well. Unlikely, I realize that. Maybe all the Arkham series needs is some fresh writing talent from people who are actually passionate about Batman lore and stories. From a gameplay perspective, if it's gonna be single player than they probably won't run into the same issues that Suicide Squad did. And if the game is years away at point, then there's plenty of time for changes in the team to occur that could improve the games odds.
While a large part of the original trilogy was the gameplay, it's also true that large parts of what made the trilogy great were the story beats, the environment, the characters, etc. After seeing the people currently working at the studio come up with what they did on the Suicide Squad game, I don't see how they could come up with something even a fraction as impactful and well put together as those earlier games. I would much rather see Batman be handled by a completely different studio at this point, and that if Rocksteady MUST continue to operate, they do something completely different as far as subject matter is concerned.
Before Hogwarts Legacy came out, I thought it would be a live service... and it would actually be insane to see you starting off as a new student at Hogwarts, along with your friends and other people online, "choose" a house and learn magic by signing up and going to certain classes after learning the entry level magic of a beginner. Could have ranked magic fights, Quidditch tournaments and live events where a you and other players need to work together to defeat magical creatures. E.g. a troll escaping from the dungeon. I am not even a hardcore Harry Potter but that would have been insane.
Imagine the game turning out to be the most diverse and inclusive Batman game ever with Batwoman mrs freeze and all the else world bullshit they put in Suicide Squad
At this point, allowing Rocksteady to handle the Batman character again is like returning your baby back to the same abusive babysitter simply because you have to work.
At this point I'm of the mind that focusing on past accolades is the easiest way to be disappointed by a studios product, particularly when so many have had staff turnovers during the past two years. However, if a studio has managed to keep their devs through all this it's likely they're not just keeping a seat warm and they still have love for the creation of games, it's all a matter of if they're allowed to create something that speaks to them.
Rocksteady has my respect for the best Batman games ever but they had there chance and they messed up big time and ruined the potential of the Arkham-verse they should own up to there mistakes and let someone else have go at creating a new connected DC game Universe.
They are missing most of the developers who made those other games, by the way. The leads of the studio left during SSKTJL If you are expecting the Arkham of old, think again. This studio now has to match that talent with a fraction of the experience. But people will get overhyped anyway because they don't understand that literally any group of developers can inherit a studio name.
I’m replaying Batman Arkham Knight and for a moment I was excited, then I became skeptical. All of the people who made those games special are gone. Will Arkham Shadow even be good? It’s a VR exclusive so there’s no high hopes for that or any future Batman video games.
Let’s be real, rocksteady probably went down on hands and knees begging for them not to be shut down, so a new batman game will be their last chance and if it flops i can imagine rocksteady will be shut down
If I could pick any developer for a new Batman, Naughty Dog would be it. Their high quality mix of narrative and gameplay would be a real good fit for me. Having said all that I don’t want all the best studios just opting for the easy option of superhero money.
The well was pumped full of poison they would have to move mountains and release a true 10 out of 10 to win people back over. And frankly i dont think it would be possible even with the old crew coming back.
If it's not tied in anyway to the arkham vs. and the new team does their own thing, I will give it a try. With conroy gone, I just don't want them to recast the arkham batman.
Keep the arkham gameplay ( combat,gadgets,puzzles) but put it in a new canon so that there not bogged down with Continuity my personal Wish list for the game is have some of the bat family playable in the open world like how catwomen was in city keep the Batmobile but use it just for getting around and for chases and keep the joker in the game but don't make him the main bad guy keep him as a big sid quest so he's there but not the main focus

At this point I'm of the mind that focusing on past accolades is the easiest way to be disappointed by a studios product, particularly when so many have had staff turnovers during the past two years. However, if a studio has managed to keep their devs through all this it's likely they're not just keeping a seat warm and they still have love for the creation of games, it's all a matter of if they're allowed to create something that speaks to them.

Rocksteady has my respect for the best Batman games ever but they had there chance and they messed up big time and ruined the potential of the Arkham-verse they should own up to there mistakes and let someone else have go at creating a new connected DC game Universe.
i mean after the flop that was suicide squad it makes sense they would want to make something safe and whats more safe than another batman game
if they bring in new writers i think it could possibly work.
They are missing most of the developers who made those other games, by the way. The leads of the studio left during SSKTJL
If you are expecting the Arkham of old, think again. This studio now has to match that talent with a fraction of the experience.
But people will get overhyped anyway because they don't understand that literally any group of developers can inherit a studio name.
I would love a Rocksteady Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, or 60's Batman game.
I’m replaying Batman Arkham Knight and for a moment I was excited, then I became skeptical. All of the people who made those games special are gone. Will Arkham Shadow even be good? It’s a VR exclusive so there’s no high hopes for that or any future Batman video games.

If I could pick any developer for a new Batman, Naughty Dog would be it. Their high quality mix of narrative and gameplay would be a real good fit for me. Having said all that I don’t want all the best studios just opting for the easy option of superhero money.

If it's not tied in anyway to the arkham vs. and the new team does their own thing, I will give it a try. To say every developer of the old games is gone or can't be consulted is ridiculous. rocksteady should have a chance to redeem them selfs. With conroy gone, I just don't want them to recast the arkham batman.
Don’t know if they can fix the damage they’ve caused. It seems people who like Batman aren’t there anymore.
Keep the arkham gameplay ( combat,gadgets,puzzles) but put it in a new canon so that there not bogged down with Continuity my personal Wish list for the game is have some of the bat family playable in the open world like how catwomen was in city keep the Batmobile but use it just for getting around and for chases and keep the joker in the game but don't make him the main bad guy keep him as a big sid quest so he's there but not the main focus
Hopefully it’s Batman Beyond IMO, they could switch it up a bit and take a risk and do a different Batman universe
