This is probably going to be an Anthem situation where the team only got to really start working and had only one year to finish the game. You can see it, game was clearly made in 1/2 years.
“Hi, I’m Brainiac, the smartest being in existence. My troops and vehicles have these glowing purple weak spots, but they are decoys, I swear, don’t bother shooting them. Also, when I face you myself, I 100% am not going to copy the battle tactics of a foe that you have already bested, because I am really smart, so don’t expect that, because it’s not going to happen. I’m really smart.”
It’s worst that he has the strongest superheroes in the entire universe, yet doesn’t utilize them all at once against literal low tier villains…instead each one dies right in front of him, and yet we’re left to imagine that Brainiac still has the upper hand.
I feel like they could have avoided at least some of the controversy by just saying this is a different universe than the arkham games. Obviously after playing a trilogy of games set in that world and with those characters it's understandable that it leaves a little sour taste in your mouth to say "Oh, off screen everything you did in those games fell apart afterwards, Brainiac is in charge now and you should go kill Batman" Like using the 'Arkhamverse' as a selling point only works if you are paying respect to the games that came before.
When I first started the brainiac fight and he turned into flash I thought “yeah ok he’s obviously gonna be a combination of all the JL. Kinda lame, kinda repetitive but whatever” and then…. It was just the flash
I also hate the plot holes for instance Harley thinks planting a bomb in kid Ivy is messed up yet her and Joker gave a 5yr old Titan claiming it to be medicine if u listen to the audio tapes in Batgirl DLC. This universe's version of Harley is meant to be messed up and evil yet there so desperate in turning her into the mainstream anti-hero version we keep seeing lately and it does not work.
The one thing I could say to defend it is that she’s not with Joker anymore and it’s been 5 years since his death, and that also that was like year one Harley when she was uncontrollably obsessed and under his thumb. And also too Ivy is her friend and with the new beginnings for both these characters she doesent want to fall back into old habits or be defined as Villains and Criminals again. But also too this game is a joke and the writers are miserable at their job.
Alot of stuff was made non canon before suicide squad even the assult in Arkham movie and a Majority of the Arkham comics where made non canon which hurts my soul because Arkham Knight Genises is no longer canon most of it eas made non canon before ssktj even started development
It just feels so obvious that this game went right into production after 2016’s Suicide Squad movie and WB wanted them to shoehorn in the most successful parts of it
I remember day dreaming about what rocksteadys next game would be back when Arkham knight came out. Little did I know we would have to wait 9 years for a mean spirited, live service, looter shooter
Also, the dead of our beloved Kevin Conroy, the actual Batman, the best voice actor for Batman, and the dead of arkhamverse Batman in the most disrespectful way. Let's also don't forget what they did to the rest of JL members, killing them before before getting a character development, and died so easily and making fun of them. They destroyed all the character development they did on Batman for 4 games, 5 if we count Blackgate. And the redcon of Deadshot
@@alexregele22 And they undid poison ivy’s sacrifice in Arkham knight. Also how are there Black Mask weapons if Redhood killed him in Arkham knight’s DLC?!
Ship of Theseus - The co-founders left Rocksteady Games in 2022 and took with them the most talented developers. Warner Bros hired whoever they could to get the game out the door. End of story.
You know what would’ve been a far more compelling narrative? An old, heroic Batman coming out of hiding to help the Justice League fight off the Brainiac invasion.
@@MTMuppet I had the same exact thought bro omfg what we're they smoking when they were making this game.🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ Just like that one Justice League Online game where Lex Luthor and Batman come from an alternate earth in the future and Batman is part machine now because he's been to war Edit: I just realized too in that game they were also fighting Brainiac and Kevin Conroy was the VA of Batman 😂😂
@@streetside2833pretty much switch Batman and Wonder Woman's roles because Brainiac only wants the meta humans with God like powers. Have Batman ultimately sacrifice himself at some point in the story.
@@jimmyv3170 Wonder Woman having Athena's Blessing makes her being the one unaffected actually correct. Like others have pointed out, her character was given the most thought when it came to respecting the character and history. Its great they did it for her - but that should hold true for the entire JL here, especially Bats.
This is what happens when mega corporations decide a games identity rather than passionate devs. They always seem choose live service money pit garbage over fun, good and inspired.
Eh, I hate to break it to you but WB let Rocksteady have full creative freedom. The story, characters, and tone were all the work of the "passionate devs". They were PROUD of this.
@@WobblesandBeanWhat are you talking about? A WB executive literally confirmed as early as this past November that WB games will double down on only making live service games
The thing that makes it worst for Batman's Death is that it's canonically the Arkham Batman...until this year he supposedly died in a heroic way in Arkham Knight, but they "revived" him explaining away his death as "oh he faked it and joined the Justice League" and then killed him again in the worst way possible...
I mean, it was kind of obvious he faked it at the end of arkham knight... there was even a secret ending that pretty much showed he was alive and using scarecrows gas to scare criminals.
One of the most egregious aspects of the game is it’s complete disregard of the Arkham universe, Harley Quinn being a perfect example. She lambasts Batman for causing criminals “long term emotional damage”. In this universe Harley has kidnapped, tortured, and murdered hundreds of people… Either the writers never played a previous Arkham game, or they simply disregarded the franchise’s history in order to tell their story. Regardless, it’s disrespectful and a complete failure of writing and storytelling.
They tried to make her into the Margot Robbie and Harley Quinn show versions where they have no agency over their own actions and were just being manipulated by the joker to appear more relatable to women who think they had a toxic relationship with a narcissistic man which is most women today. It's similar to how Deadshot in Arkham has been white for over a decade but apparently that was an imposter because they want the game version to look like will Smith. They obviously never played the old games or did research into the old games because Arkham Harley is one of the most evil versions of Harley, she literally tortured a child and their entire family. All of a sudden she hates Joker too when up to Arkham Knight she was still in love with him If you see the faces behind the development of this game it will explain a lot. Think about how Wonder Woman is treated like she's the protagonist of the Arkhamverse and not Batman and how she's the only hero there that gets a hero's send off where she sacrifices herself and isn't disrespected by the Suicide Squad during or after her death. Batman gets 🔫 on a park bench, green lanterns gets striped down to his draws and 🔫 in the head, Flash gets peed on and Supes just flops over and croaks like he's not the most powerful being there.
@@asdadsgsaadasf6043Not only that I watch a video talking about how some of the head devs while working on the game didn't have like the basic list of things to make and work toward in the game. Thwy were essentially just continuously adding more stuff as development went on hoping it would qll somehow mesh together later.
I do not understand how this game can manage to shit the bed in graphics, gameplay, online connectivity, storywriting, world building and pleasing fans all at once. It's actually kind of impressive.
@@chickenwings6172 My brother in christ I made a joke about Anthem being bad. I have no idea what you're yapping about. Maybe you responded to the wrong person?
At no point during any of the gameplay footage of the boss fights could I tell what the hell was going on. It is just bright garish colours everywhere.
Even in Prototype 1 and 2, a series where I can body slam someone from the empire state building simply for committing the crime of existing - you never piss on someone's corpse. That does seem a touch far in the wrong direction. Like you can do edgy without it being potty humor?
It's especially jarring because Flash and his enemies (The Rogues) usually respect each other. Injustice 2 nailed it with how Flash speaks to Captain Cold.
Considering Rocksteady once revived superhero games and brought them to the AAA space, I find it poignant to quote Harvey Dent after seeing their downfall: 'you either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.'
Rocksteady has been dead for years. The people that made the good games in their catalog are long gone. This is just a shell of a company wearing their name.
Yup, the ones who remained sold their souls and diversity hires were brought in to push an agenda and corporate money making scheme. Same story as current Bungie.
It's how the death is done, there's no respect. Arkham Batman isn't going out like this. Given his feats, the man is beating the Squad little to no diff.@@bobross8585

The fact that this game could've been a fun parody of other games makes me sad, like a regular escort mission but the person explodes midway through and now you have to carry their remains to Waller or something, or having some insane complicated plans with alien gadgets to kill JL but since the squad is inefficient and reactive, it wouldn't work in the intended way and end up freeing the JL member for example.
I am retconning this game entirely from the Arkham universe, batman is still kicking ass in Gotham with his upgraded fear equipment that he got from scarecrow
Outside pushing for laws that ban the practice of offering preorders, I don't see how you can stop the sheep from giving money to these bad actors. These games make their money back several times over before anyone even gets to play them.
no. i've been saying it for years. the games industry has proven time and time again that it needs HEAVY legislation, or some kind of regulatory body. these studios should be fined. you shouldn't be able to say that consumers "don't own" the games they buy.
My problem is the main idea of the game: I don't want to kill the Justice League. I want to play as them. Say what you want about the Avengers game, at least you are the Avengers. You're using their powers and playing an Avengers story. This game, it's four villains, and their power is "gun."
I mean this game is literally a game titled the suicide squad kill the Justice league and you play the suicide squad killing the Justice league. Wanting a Justice league game is valid but holding that against this game is a little odd since it’s not like it’s deceptive marketing or anything
@@jeanv2246your missing the point. This game is in replace of a game the fans really wanted. We wanted a game where we could play these characters not kill them unceremoniously. I wanted to use the lasso of truth and whip around enemies not be whipped around by wonder woman. I wanted to be able to take down brainiac as superman or batman not fucking kill them with little to no respect twords the characters. @@The.Usurper I can buy Harley shaking off the fear toxin since she is crazy enough to expose herself to it repetitively like she was in Injustice 2 but definitely not the others. Plus the Batman "Boss Fight" that followed was complete ass. Rocksteady managed to top the horrible Tank Boss Fights from Arkham Knight.
With the pissing on the corpse thing, part of Flash’s whole thing is there is a mutual respect among his rouge’s gallery, and I really struggle to think of any version of Boomerang SPECIFICALLY that would do that. So not only is the tone wrong but it feels like they don’t understand what they’re doing.
Finally someone who get it. I've seen people saying "he's a villain what do you expect?" Boomerang is the same guy who kicked Trickster from unmasking a seemingly dead flash telling him to show respect.
That is something that really made me mad. Flash is one of the only heroes who has a actually good relationship with his villans so to see that scene just confirmed to me that they didn't care at all.
Modern writers just don't know when to turn off their "comedy" and it's a tactic I've seen a lot of people do to mask insecurities and to make up for a lack of personality. Which is all painfully transparent with this game.
@@oldoutlet6946 They knew to do it for Wonder Woman though... It's political. There's no two ways about it. University, especially in this field, is rife with it. And, as someone who has an honors degree in literature and creative writing, and even focused on games, the entertainment industry should hire based on talent and portfolio, not degrees or education. Otherwise you're going to get stuck with talentless people who spent more time writing essays on social politics than understanding writing itself. If you want stories that don't destroy themselves with 'comedy', stick to indies or Japanese titles. Indie writers rely on talent and passion. Japanese writers don't give a damn about western politics. There's a whole new generation of 'qualified' writers who are more political than passionate. And that's going to drastically effect the quality of writing for the coming years until studios up their recruiting standards. I am not working in the industry and have long since moved on to other fields. I might try and go back and write for indie games in the future, but the industry was clearly not a good place to seek a career in when I first graduated.
The tragedy is this piece of gutter trash is Kevin Conroy’s final appearance as Batman. And Rocksteady had the gall to dedicate it to him. What a slap in the face to the most legendary voice of Batman.
Thankfully, even though this is (potentially) Kevin Conroy's final video game performance as the Dark Knight, Conroy has a confirmed role as Batman in DC's animated Crisis on Infinite Earths Part 3
It's like you think they killed him or something, they didn't know he was going to die when making it. They didn't know that this was going to be judged as his last thing. Wouldn't it be worse if they didn't give him a dedication?
@@atiredcliche depends how disrespectful would it be to open the International Adolf Hitler Synagogue? That's about how disrespectful it is to dedicate this . let's call it a game, to Kevin Conroy.

@@atiredclicheI think the bigger issue is the very people that he had such an established working relationship with actually writing that material and plot for him in this game in the first place. "iT's CaLlEd KiLl ThE jUsTiCe LeAgUe BrO!!!" is such a lazy strawman argument. The outrage was never about killing the Justice League. If Rocksteady had delivered a game with this premise that had Arkham-quality writing, storytelling, tone, and character work, where our player characters had some dimension, and where the heroes' deaths were treated with a degree of pathos and depth, nobody would be complaining. The problem is and always has been the EXECUTION OF THE CONCEPT, not the concept itself.
@@skinnyrat4277 Well in "The Boys" case the reason is that the author unironically hates super heroes, so he hast all over them in his terrible comic. So I guess the comparison fits, since clearly the writers of this game also hate super heroes and their fans.
The vocal minority on social media mean absolutely nothing. You’re all yelling into the air. Nobody cares and will still buy it no matter how much people kick and scream.
Never mind the missions being absolute garbage, I don’t like how the devs and WB absolute do not respect the source material. I’m not a huge DC fan. I really like the Batman end of things and I watched the Justice League and Young Justice when I was a kid. I like these characters. I cannot fathom how they think it was a great idea to ignore how the lantern ring works, _literally_ piss on The Flash, and _shoot Batman in the head. In his bulletproof helmet. With a revolver that drops a shell._ After everything he went through? In Kevin Conroy’s last role? It’s oddly, deeply disrespectful. We aren’t mad the Suicide Squad kills the Justice League. We can read the title of the game. We’re mad because the devs shit on everything the Justice League is. Batman is why anyone knows who Rocksteady is and cared about them for so long. Wonder Woman should never be treated in a higher respect than the character that made your company and treat Batman like Old Yeller Batman deserved better and the players deserve better
I'll be blunt THe issue isn't what happened to Batman, the concept of him being killed by Harley of all people could be so crazy it works. I'm bothered about how we got there. We had ZERO character growth on Harley's part. Zero. There is no reason she should be able to pull all this off, and the same applies for all the other SS members. Also, Batman in this game was very out of character. We are lead to believe that after faking his death in AK the league just invited him to join and he was "oh, okay" and went public. We should believe that the same Dark Knight who was thinking 4 moves ahead of his WHOLE enemy gallery while fighting them AT THE SAME TIME is taken down by 4 guys who are mid tier at best in comparison to Joker, Scarecrow, LAdy Shiva or Ra's. We should believe that this master strategist, with super human intelligence and limitless resources, while being mind crontrolled by a demi god being that makes him BLOODLUSTED, is taken down by those same mid tier guys just because essentialy they jump him and Harley decides she is now smarter than him. Again it's not the idea, it's the execution. I've seen NPCs die with more dignity than this.
Your idea of Batman being broken of the mind control and giving him a better send off would’ve been very much appreciated. It felt so cheap to see him die like that. Also it doesn’t make sense that Batman couldn’t resist brainiacs brainwashing. Homie had buffed up fear toxin and the joker turning him crazy and HE STILL BROKE OUT OF IT AFTER DEFEATING ALL OF HIS VILLAINS IN ONE NIGHT
They clearly did not play previous arkham games This batman is ridiculously strong. He managed to survive enough fear toxin that would drive many men insane while keeping the joker out of his mind through his will alone
I understand they wanted to make a suicide squad Game, but I just wish they could've sent batman off respectfully, be that him dying while preparing ways to kill the others at the least
I honestly thought they were hinting at that since he kept trying to convince Brainiac not to kill Wonder Woman, but no, Batman was just a made brainwashed stooge with banter as bad as the main cast, and apparently the rest of the bat family is just dead now? and they had the gall to play an emotional version of the Arkham Batman theme after such a legendary character gets shot in the head on a park bench.
That kinda' makes sense, but on the otherhand one thing that bothers me in the comics is how they power-up Batman in JL stories. Like even if he was immune to human toxins, Brainiac's (and other Superman villains) mindcontrol is way stronger. Without some special Magneto-style helmet, Batman shouldn't be resistant to him.
Reminds me of the quote from a J Cole song (for some reason) when he say "good news is you came a long way, bad news is you went the wrong way" Really cool that Rocksteady wanted to make a suicide squad game and the potential there is insane but to make it a live service looter shooter... Dear oh dear
I was considering it until I heard the words “live service “. My enthusiasm instantly left me and I instantly knew what was going to happen to this game. It happened exactly like I thought. Dead on arrival.
It really wasnt their call, high chance that it was the higher ups at WB Games that chose that. They originally wanted to make a superman game (which is probably why this game is also set in metropolis) but the idea was denied by Warner Bros.
The founders of Rocksteady left when they heard about it they are making their own game studio now they didn't have anything to do with the end product really
Wonder woman being the only one treated with respect while the other members deaths are treated with disrespect and malice clearly shows what the writers felt. It's so obvious that it's pathetic.
@aaronb-b1881 I'm not even too pissed off. Like yeah sure why should any of these characters cry? They really shouldn't. However, I don't like playing looter shooters and they literally brought batman back from the dead from Knight, then dies again? Why what's the reason for this? To set up for you to KEEP playing this fucking game because oh no, they actually aren't dead!!!! Oooooooooooo or he actually just dies lol oops
@@casual1118 I’m not defending this game, but Batman doesn’t die at the end of Arkham Knight… if you 100% the game or just look on TH-cam you’ll see that.
That's my main problem, why the actual fuck would they make only WW death a respecfull one? That wouldn't be a issue if her death was as bad as the other ones.
I love that Batman has this Justice League contingency plan to get rid of them just in case something happens then you actually play and it's just King Shark mini-gunning the heroes down.
This game could have been so cool if the premise was "all the Justice League has become corrupted and must be killed and only Batman knows how to kill all of them" like was mentioned in the video. Having Batman need to work with the Suicide Squad to kill his friends could have been an amazing character turn.
Even the story as is, it would’ve been awesome if the game was “Wonder Woman x Suicide Squad”, getting to play as her, discover the contingency plans and actually watch her mourn the death of her friends, getting to meet with Lois Lane (among other friends of the JL) and just grieving, it would’ve been a better conclusion Idk, that sounds like a better premise to me but what do we know, right?
It feels like the writers of the game had a chip on their shoulders and just imagined that beloved childhood heroes would be the perfect receptacle of all that trauma.
You don't need to just feel my friend; you're spot on. Look up Sweet Baby Inc the company they brought in for character and script development and what they think of things like superheroes.

One counter point. They worked on Alan Wake 2 and that game is fucking great. I love it and it truly isn't woke. It is actual interesting characters with great deliveries all around.
I'm glad there some other people throughout these reviews that know what's going on with sweet baby inc and the devs leaving. Have you seen the wonder woman bio? It's literally sweet baby inc using lex luthor as a puppet to push their misandry on the player through the bio
I'm convinced too. Announce game. Start hiring. A year or two later start the design process which takes 2-4 years of meetings and writing documentation. Then, you start making proof of concepts for a year or two. In the time since announcement, key people leave, more have to be hired, often trained, and learn how things work there. People take it easy on working because the release date is over a year away. Then the executives tell you you have to release the game in 12-16 months. That's when the crunch time of real work begins until release date.
@@travellingslim Sounds like a profitable model. Managers put together a focus group say what they think will sell. Maybe the focus group IS the managers. Imagine having the ability to adapt a comic book city with its vibrant characters and abilities but just opting to have everything in a random city with a group of people that just shoot people. I had almost forgot that was supposed to be Metropolis because it could be anywhere. Also, Brainiac looks pretty lame.
From day one I was hoping the title was one big misdirection. After all, it's called Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Notice the colon? That's important. It denotes a subtitle. They were ordered to kill the Justice League, but actually succeeding is a whole nother sack of potatoes. I thought they were going to free the Justice League by accident and be heralded as unintentional heroes, because I thought there was no way a bunch of jobbers would be able to beat one superhero, let alone four.
I completely thought the opposite. I thought it was more obvious that they'd save the Justice League and team up with them to defeat Brainiac but instead it lives up to the name
That actually would have been funny. The Squad has to act like it was intentional and play nice to the crowd. Waller would probably even go for it. She resents the Justice League for being heroes to the people rather than the government, so this would be a way to take credit.
@@greed-1914I actually thought if they did take out the Justice League, it would not be just based on them. Like they would fund Batman's back up plans to take out the Justice League if they went Rogue. Or like they instead capture the Justice League (at least Superman) by using their weaknesses against them. Fun fact: there was actually a movie where a bunch if villans teamed up, found Batman's evil Justice league defense protocol and used it against them. Like you had Batman's parents bodies removed from their grave, then have hom buried alive with some skeletons. (Can't remember if it was theirs) Hal Jordan was dosed with Scarecrows fear toxin and saw the woman he lover's body. Ww had nanites effect her brain to see everyone she looked at as Catwoman threatening her. The Flash had a bomb strapped to him that would explode if he stopped running, Superman was shot by a kryptonite bullet to the heart, Martian was constantly on fire, etc

Not gonna lie, this video popped up on auto-play and I didn't know what it was covering when I walked back in my room. When I glanced at the gameplay footage, I genuinely thought it was a Fortnight update.
Here's how it could have been done for Bats: He breaks the mind control, turns to Harley and says - B: Do it H: Do what? B: Take me out. I can't risk being taken control of again. H: Oh I'll do it Bats, don't you worry. Puddin was a nightmare, but he was mine. B: Why haven't you done it then? H: I... I don't know... I guess in a way he was sort of yours too. B: Harley, I don't know how much time I have. H: I...I... B: DO IT! Harley shakes, startled, then fires the gun almost reflexively. She seems sad but shakes it off and walks away while the rest of the squad watch her go. Annnnnd scene. But I guess we'll have to stick with the drek that's in the game.
All the while them talking about multiverse nonsense means they can recycle them in future season updates if needed. So you KEEP killing them at a later date.

The people who made Batman don’t even work there anymore just look at a picture of the company then and now it’s all dei hires just check the credits not one person worked on this game from Arkham so it’s not the same company
nah Rocksteady is long dead, what we got is a bunch of bottom feeding activists puppeteering its corpse around so that people will at least glance at their tired "my failures are everyone else's fault" song and dance before predictably leaving them once again to wallow in self-imposed mediocrity.
Suicide Squad’s development hell caused a lot of the original Arkham writers and devs to bounce following intervention from WB, leaving a company called Sweet Baby in charge. Don’t blame these old writers and Rocksteady, blame WB and Sweet Baby.
If Rocksteady had done the story in a manner where the Suicide Squad had to free the Justice League from their mind control and TEAM UP with them to stop Braniac instead of killing them, you probably would've gotten a better story plus the potential ability to unlock the heroes as playable characters(at least that's what I'd do if I were making it).
@@Bionic_Webb I was honestly expecting Wonder Women to break the mind control with her lasso and Batman to break it with Batman shenanigans, and then they'd sacrifice themselves while helping the Suicide Squad. They'd probably die fighting Superman and Green Lantern or something.

@@Chris-we7hh Except it's not what he'd do because he respects the flash. Because there was a similar situation in the comics where digger kicked a Trickster trying to unmask a seemingly dead flash telling him to show respect. Or as recent as rebirth where he teamed up with a flash (Barry) and kid flash looking for answers pertaining to reverse flash (Daniel west) the current kid Flash's father.
Because nobody knows how to make a game with playable superheroes like Superman good. Batman works because he's no metahuman, so much more grounded stories and gameplay can be built around him. The idea behind a SS game isn't inherently bad, it's just that this game executed it in the most disgusting way possible.
Honestly, the Captain Boomerang pissing on the Flash's corpse scene seems to me like the most literal representation of a trend writers in media have been following for the last decade... "Everything that came before us is trash, and everyone who loves it is trash. We are the new generation and we know better. Take what people love, make a new product out of it, get them to pay us for it, and then piss all over it right in front of them to show them how little we think of them and their fandom..." It's literally the best example of writers telling you this to your face since Kylo Ren's "Let the past die. Kill it if you have to" line. I was desperately looking for anyone to say anything about this game that would make me go "i'm not going to love it, but here's one thing that i might enjoy that makes it worth trying it out."... But every review i see gets progressively worse... I'm very curious to see what this game will look like in 1-2 years.
It's sad isn't it? But, fuck em. Let them burn beloved characters and IPs to the ground. There's other up and coming people creating their own IPs and I'm looking forward to dive into those
This is why anime and manga are so popular. Anybody with half a brain can see the american bs for modern audiences sucks. That's why none of this stuff is making any money. Also why half of Hollywood is going bankrupt. Oh and if you want to see what this game looks like in two years just look at all the nothing that's happening with the avengers game right now.
What will this game look like in 2 years? You won't be able to see it to find out because the servers will have been shut down and it won't be playable anymore
Everybody already had an issue with the game's premise being "murder all our childhood heroes", but for them to double down on that to the point of having them literally piss on the corpses while making a joke of it is *insane*
This is probably a rumor, but didn’t Rocksteady want to either do a single player Superman game or a Batman Beyond Arkham game before WB turned it down and forced them to make this garbage?
@@jinxact532yeah bring us a martian manhunter game that guy is sick It’s either a batman game or a justice league game where batman is the leader with superman
This may help your confusion over the direction of this game - none of the developers from the original trilogy are still around to make this game. It is an entirely new crew wearing the face of the old one. 100 of the devs from the old crew went off to make an entirely new studio a while ago.
Kevin Conroy isn’t even JUST a beloved voice actor who voiced Batman for many years. For pretty much anybody familiar with his work, he is so synonymous with Batman that his death in 2022 felt like the death of the character itself. A gay man who came up through Hollywood in the mid 20th century, Conroy was deeply touched by Batman’s struggles with identity, secrecy, isolation, and guilt, moreso than most hardcore fans could say for themselves. He was at a bit of a low point in his career when he got the audition for Batman The Animated Series, and he was reluctant to take it. He was surprised by how much he immediately related to the character, and the creators of the show basically hired him on the spot, and the rest is history. By all accounts the man was one of the kindest human beings you could ever find in Hollywood, and he dedicated the last three decades of his life to the character and the community. There are many beloved and dedicated performers in film and television, but Kevin Conroy is genuinely on another level in terms of what he gave, what he meant to the fans, and what all of it meant to him. Killing him off in such an unsatisfying jus for an emotional Harley moment (one that doesn’t even make much sense for this version of the character) displays a blatant ignorance of Conroy’s legacy, which is all the more upsetting given the studio’s relationship with the character as you mentioned. I wouldn’t be surprised if this were the precise reason that the studio founders left.
Very true. I know for me he was what Batman sounded like always. I just that character was made for the show and that’s what he always sounded like. When I heard anyone but him I thought “they couldn’t get the real Batman”? I mean I know he wasn’t REAL but you know…
@@Mybasedworld He had to hide it for most of his career, as there really weren’t any roles being given to gay actors while he was in Hollywood. The stigma from both the industry and even his closest loved ones instilled in him a reluctance to share. It wasn’t until 2016 that he came out to the public.
So, this is what nearly nine years of development looks like? Wow, what an underwhelming achievement. Thanks for saving me money, WB and Rocksteady, appreciate it.
Almost certainly a lot of that work was scrapped because of executives deciding on changes in direction. They probably effectively developed 3-4 different versions of the game over that time and only the last two years or so involved actual game design for the final product, with assets being reused.
@@psiah9889 Oh, I have no doubt about that, which is why I thank WB for saving me money, convinced me never to buy this game. Man, gotta love morons in executive positions.
Warner is notorious for screwing over games and forcibly restarting game's development multiple times. This game is just the most recent example. The old main example of their meddling was superman 64, which was a competent game from the lost media demos but the final game got warped beyond recognition by Warner.
I like how they have 4 different characters, with different gimmicks in the comics and other media, but they don't give them different gameplay. Imagine if there was interactive terrain features only King Shark could smash or bend into different shapes, or even water portions to move around in different ways. Or telephone wires and powerlines only Harley could tightrope across. Things that can be interacted with using a boomerang...
It's because you can play the whole game with any character, so they can't have one character be the solution to anything. You can play it with a squad of 4 Boomerangs if you want.
I don't understand the comparison when it's two completely different games. You're insinuating that dc ips can't sell in a way. The main complaint for gotham knights was that it didn't have arkhams play style.
@@rufus5208 It's amazing how people are STILL getting that so damn wrong. There wasn't a single live service component about the game and people are still out here calling it one.
The flash and Batman deaths are proof the story was written with nothing but cheap shock value in mind. Like they expected us to be surprised and excited about how edgy the deaths are, instead it just came out cringe.
That's pretty much how all "edge" is these days. They have neither the balls to be actually edgy all the way, nor do they include enough sincerity to make such a moment impactful. It's all buried in ten layers of ironic humor.
@@billjacobs521It's called being "safe edgy." It's edgy in a way that is inoffensive to people the creators are actually scared of offending. Notice how Wonder Woman got the nice send-off while the rest of the male heroes got nothing or were humiliated like Green Lantern being in his underwear or Flash getting peed on. They wouldn't do that to Wonder Woman, so it doesn't go all the way fairly. Batman doesn't even get the same level of grace for his send-off.
I swear studios deliberately try to make their games as bad as possible cause i could go to the street and pick 10 persons who would give the fans what they want
And, if you follow the characters to any depth beyond the surface, the last person any of these people, least of all Boomerang, would disrespect is the Flash. There's several examples of him checking up on his rogues gallery while they're locked up; hell, one of my favorite Flash moments comes in the Justice League (might be Unlimited) cartoon, where he, Martian Manhunter, and Green Lantern go to a bar to check up on the Trickster, convincing him to give them the information they need and turn himself in by just being a friend. It's just... sad to see a member of Flash's rogues gallery just disrespecting the man who he likely knew cared for his well-being, at least to some extent.
that would have made it much more believable. the justice league is hard for batman to neutralise alone, let alone other non-metahumans so it make it that bit easier make it not too unrealistic in universe.
Yeah, I guess I'll be skipping this one. I also saw some content from the creators saying, "we don't make games for your enjoyment, we make them to express ourselves!"
In regards to Wonder Women being the only hero that’s treated with respect, in her character bio it says she “solved toxic masculinity”… tells you all you need to know.
You know, i usually hate this argument since its so often used as a catch all for real and bigger problems with these games. I think WW was done "well enough" but...seeing this as a thing more or less tells me its pretty much the case. I guess they could have tossed that in as a inclusion for those that cared about such things. But considering the rest of the game, it all just reaffirms the mentality of it all :/

One of the most egregious aspects of the game is it’s complete disregard of the Arkham universe, Harley Quinn being a perfect example. She lambasts Batman for causing criminals “long term emotional damage”. In this universe Harley has kidnapped, tortured, and murdered hundreds of people…
Either the writers never played a previous Arkham game, or they simply disregarded the franchise’s history in order to tell their story.
All of a sudden she hates Joker too when up to Arkham Knight she was still in love with him
If you see the faces behind the development of this game it will explain a lot.

THe issue isn't what happened to Batman, the concept of him being killed by Harley of all people could be so crazy it works.

They clearly did not play previous arkham games
This batman is ridiculously strong. He managed to survive enough fear toxin that would drive many men insane while keeping the joker out of his mind through his will alone
I understand they wanted to make a suicide squad Game, but I just wish they could've sent batman off respectfully, be that him dying while preparing ways to kill the others at the least
But then the woke developers would t be able to live their fantasy of emasculating and killing batman after lecturing him
I honestly thought they were hinting at that since he kept trying to convince Brainiac not to kill Wonder Woman, but no, Batman was just a made brainwashed stooge with banter as bad as the main cast, and apparently the rest of the bat family is just dead now? and they had the gall to play an emotional version of the Arkham Batman theme after such a legendary character gets shot in the head on a park bench.
Having Batman need to work with the Suicide Squad to kill his friends could have been an amazing character turn.
Even the story as is, it would’ve been awesome if the game was “Wonder Woman x Suicide Squad”, getting to play as her, discover the contingency plans and actually watch her mourn the death of her friends, getting to meet with Lois Lane (among other friends of the JL) and just grieving, it would’ve been a better conclusion

@@Bionic_Webb I was honestly expecting Wonder Women to break the mind control with her lasso and Batman to break it with Batman shenanigans, and then they'd sacrifice themselves while helping the Suicide Squad. They'd probably die fighting Superman and Green Lantern or something.

Why would you even suggest such a good idea?
Yo that's a crazy idea.
Madness! Are you seriously suggesting giving fans what they want? 👀
Because nobody knows how to make a game with playable superheroes like Superman good. Batman works because he's no metahuman, so much more grounded stories and gameplay can be built around him. The idea behind a SS game isn't inherently bad, it's just that this game executed it in the most disgusting way possible.
I imagined that it was the Ezra Miller Flash getting pissed on and then found it hilarious lol
Honestly, the Captain Boomerang pissing on the Flash's corpse scene seems to me like the most literal representation of a trend writers in media have been following for the last decade... "Everything that came before us is trash, and everyone who loves it is trash. We are the new generation and we know better. Take what people love, make a new product out of it, get them to pay us for it, and then piss all over it right in front of them to show them how little we think of them and their fandom..."
It's literally the best example of writers telling you this to your face since Kylo Ren's "Let the past die.
Netflix's Witcher
What will this game look like in 2 years? You won't be able to see it to find out because the servers will have been shut down and it won't be playable anymore
isnt that exactly in his character tho
Everybody already had an issue with the game's premise being "murder all our childhood heroes", but for them to double down on that to the point of having them literally piss on the corpses while making a joke of it is *insane*
Should’ve been a Batman Beyond game, heck even a Batman vs Justice League game would’ve been better.
That's because that actually makes sense. I still can't believe that they made this damn game.
This is probably a rumor, but didn’t Rocksteady want to either do a single player Superman game or a Batman Beyond Arkham game before WB turned it down and forced them to make this garbage?

I mean I know he wasn’t REAL but you know…
Just now finding out from this comment that Kevin conroy was gay. Wild
@@Mybasedworld Just goes to show that he didn't make it his entire personality like a modern actor would. Sad to learn though.
Whattt? He was gay??
@@Mybasedworld He had to hide it for most of his career, as there really weren’t any roles being given to gay actors while he was in Hollywood. The stigma from both the industry and even his closest loved ones instilled in him a reluctance to share. It wasn’t until 2016 that he came out to the public.
So, this is what nearly nine years of development looks like? Wow, what an underwhelming achievement. Thanks for saving me money, WB and Rocksteady, appreciate it.
Not even worth buying on sale either
Between this and Starfield, maybe less time is better for development. Graphics are neat but who gives a shit if it's not fun.
You can play it with a squad of 4 Boomerangs if you want.
even PS2 games had more effort.
Seeing some of the cutscenes made me sure I'm never touching this
When I first heard about this game I immediately thought, this game will be a dumpster fire.
WB saw Gotham Knights and was like “Let’s double down on this” and I can’t for the life of me see why
Stubbornly, anyway it's their problem now. People should learn to vote with their wallet.
I don't understand the comparison when it's two completely different games. You're insinuating that dc ips can't sell in a way. The main complaint for gotham knights was that it didn't have arkhams play style.
Gotham Knights isn't a live service game. It's a narrative game with co-op.
@@rufus5208 It's amazing how people are STILL getting that so damn wrong. There wasn't a single live service component about the game and people are still out here calling it one.
At this point I rather play Gotham Knight. Doesn't need a online to play or game is not live service
Imagine if the blue counter icon showed up around Harley's head and you're told to hit the classic counter button and BOOM you play as Batman now
😂😂😂 and the next part of the game is just a 7 hour Arkham game.
Life could be a dream...
The good ending
@@BiggerBossN313that would be an amazing come back
The flash and Batman deaths are proof the story was written with nothing but cheap shock value in mind.
Still hate how The Flash was treated but its not anywhere near being out of character for Boomerang to do such a thing
Nope. Boomerang's entire thing is that he's the literal worst.
@@robertlehto4667 exactly, Digger is a horrible human being which is exactly why he's no longer a part of The Rogues
Honestly, they should've had it so that Batman was never corrupted, and worked with Waller using his Contingency Plans against the Justice League.
Unfortunately, that would actually require effort and time making an actually decent narrative
The sole purpose of this game is to generate maximum cash for WB and then eventually shutdown. So clever writing doesn't matter here.
that would have made it much more believable. the justice league is hard for batman to neutralise alone, let alone other non-metahumans so it make it that bit easier make it not too unrealistic in universe.
no no, that would be too much effort for this game's writers and executive
Yep. It would have allowed them to make another Batman game without actually calling it a Batman game.
Yeah, I guess I'll be skipping this one. I also saw some content from the creators saying, "we don't make games for your enjoyment, we make them to express ourselves!"

The actual gamllay mechanics are better but the gameplay loop how ever is no where near as good as that one

Don't insult Sunset Overdrive like that.
