I love this car model, owned a 240Z model year 1973, in 1980 the funnest car I have owned. It will be fun to follow you Tom with kind regards from Sweden
Tom: This is some of the finest content I've come across on TH-cam. It's genuine, heartfelt and properly balanced with photos and commentary. The endeavor you have undertaken is the dream of many auto enthusiasts and I thank you for including us in the journey. I'm not alone in wishing you well on the rest of the project. I also should reiterate the quality of your TH-cam video is such that I believe you could be a career documentarian! It was great to speak with you in person at the Elliott show and thank you again for mentioning your video endeavor. I've subscribed and look forward to the rest of the project. Regards Paul
Thank you for your kind words! It was very nice to meet you also. I do have 2 more short "history" videos left, but then not long afterwards, there should be a new video out regarding the 240Z. Stay tuned!
This video is exactly what I have wanted to do for my 280zx for years now. Still enjoy driving her for now though. I'm so glad to see someone taking care of their classic Z car. It's a labor of love!
Hey Tom, my story is very similar to yours! Bought my ‘72 in 2007, drove it for 6 months before sprucing it up during the winter months. This of course turned in to a decision for do a total restoration on it. For the next 3 years I worked on it most weekends and then the ‘ol restoration fund started taking major hits over the next 3 years every time one of our 3 daughters got married. By this time the car was buried inside the garage with boxes of parts, pieces and what not that I had been sourcing. So at this point my restoration juices are starting to flow again………cleaning out the garage in preparation of beginning again. Thanx for providing inspiration with this informative & interesting backstory. It leads me to believe that I can still get this done!!! Regards, Bryce.
I am glad to help with inspiration! I'm hoping that I can see this all the way through. Some small things are happening off camera, but I do aim to make an update video within the next 3 weeks.
Bro MAD RESPECT for you and on your journey man what a ride. You show exactly what it takes to finish what you want to do with any car. I tell you what If I had the money bro I would donate it to you to finish your Z. That is a pretty color that is baby blue? Are sky blue?
Great video, Tom! My first car was a '80 280zx 2+2. I have plans to grab a S30 chassis and restomod it eventually, so I'll be following your channel closely!
Well done Got my 72 in 2000 Painted on 05 Still sitting on the dolly waiting patiently for me to put it back together …… Someday lol Luckily I have another survivor to drive around
Great story Tom! Me and my son think up any excuse to take a ride in my Z . I did the Rebello 3.2 Liter stroker and it is so much fun to drive!! I did purchase a stereo system for the Z when I was building it but never got around to putting it in, that L series engine sounds better. I look forward to watching your Z restoring journey and don't be afraid to just give us a small update sometimes. They don't all have to be long ones.
Hey Tom, I really love the whole story about you and your Z, your pattience and determination is awesome. I want to own a Z, but not having the founds yet, but you show me that: to be pattience, work hard, to dream cause at some point it´ll come true. please make more videos like that
Great content looking forward to seeing more videos. I have the same year and color. It was an appropriate Fender binder so it got repented a Light blue. Someday I want to do this exact move.
Thank you! This was the short version of the story! It will probably be a while before I make another video on my Z due to the boring work ahead before the good and fun stuff. If there is any interest, I may make other videos that do deeper dives into this cars journey so far, and videos of my other Datsuns from the past.
This was SO GOOD, as for someone that doesn't know to much on cars. This was very easy to follow along on your journey and I LOVED the many visuals leading up to this! Definitely keep with this, very fun and educational 🎉
Great video I have a 260Z with 39k original miles as the original owner. My situation was that I got scammed by a Craig's list fraudster this butthead ran off with the majority of the projects restoration funds and left me with a substandard roller/paintjob . This guy then ran off and laughed he was or could not be sued since he had no assets (he transferred everything he had away from himself). So it is nice to see some one win. I had a question where did you get your rotisserie? I am from the Baltimore area and have always loved Zs. Bill
Thanks Bill. That is horrible to hear about your 260Z. I sure hope you can get it made whole again. Keep watching the other videos and you'll see that UPS screwed me over REALLY BAD. But I will be sharing an update soon!
No. I would start with e-bay, then check local salvage yards, and if all else fails, craigslist for someone parting a car out. Also, you would be surprised, but nissan may still sell them! Try to read a part number off of it, and cross it in a google search.
you can record all the "tedious work" you said, then grab just the most important things and record your voice on it explaining it, to make a youtube series. You also can just record them and them upload them into youtube shorts, tik tok and instagram reels. If you need some help let me know
@Tom's Datsun Garage It's the only kit that has been truly engineered for the Z. All the others are just pieced together and made to be close. Factory brakes are actually pretty decent with good pads and shoes. Also rear disc for street are way way over rated.
this is why i don't restore cars ..... it take years and alot of money ..... i wish a had a team and i could do it fast and have the money where i can buy anything and do anything i want ..... plus a garage where i can do it in
Hey Tom, love following along.
Awesome, thank you!

Someday lol
Luckily I have another survivor to drive around
I had a chance to pick up a survivor and didn't. I simply don't have the garage space, otherwise I would have! It would definitely help dull the pain.
Great video and great car! , Looking forward to watching the progression!
Great video getting us caught up. Look forward to more updates!

Any idea where I can get a 79 efi relay? The one behind the glovebox?
No. I would start with e-bay, then check local salvage yards, and if all else fails, craigslist for someone parting a car out. Also, you would be surprised, but nissan may still sell them! Try to read a part number off of it, and cross it in a google search.

Z Car Garage brake kit!!!!!!
It's under consideration!
@Tom's Datsun Garage It's the only kit that has been truly engineered for the Z. All the others are just pieced together and made to be close. Factory brakes are actually pretty decent with good pads and shoes. Also rear disc for street are way way over rated.
Time to put a g16e Toyota motor in it. ❤
Nice try wise guy! 😂

Yeah it's definitely a labor of love, and not for everyone. I am hoping I can see this through to completion.
great video
