Good information there. You are very fortunate to be able to have a non running car in the driveway. I had several parts cars behind a fence on my property and some one complained. Moving them to a storage place this week. Not real happy about it.

I worked for a dealer in the "Datsun" era that eventually went to Nissan. One of the oddities of those cars is they use weird hardware. They give you an 8 mm thread, but the nut size will be 12 mm or 14 mm, instead of the traditional 13 mm. (off the shelf size) Back when we had a lot of the 210 / 310 series, we joked that a true dealer mechanic can name the only place they used a 13 mm head on the entire car. (Hint: near the water pump) Many times traditional replacements don't fit where the OEM fastener once was. BTW, on my personal long term projects I always got a box of zip-loc bags and marked where they came from. Nice to know they all went to the RF door, LF fender, (etc) so you can see where something is missing.

Nice little machine! I owned an early 80's hatchback back in the late 90's. I liked that little thing. Kinda wish I still had her. Got ripped off right from my driveway though and trashed. 😡😔 Reliable and comfortable actually. I thought they werent too bad from a performance stand point. Great video I have a 260Z with 39k original miles as the original owner. My situation was that I got scammed by a Craig's list fraudster this butthead ran off with the majority of the projects restoration funds and left me with a substandard roller/paintjob . This guy then ran off and laughed he was or could not be sued since he had no assets (he transferred everything he had away from himself). So it is nice to see some one win. I had a question where did you get your rotisserie? I am from the Baltimore area and have always loved Zs. Bill

I forgot about the little chime noise. Our first "real" car, with air conditioning and payments, was a 1982 Datsun/Nissan Sentra hatchback. It was five years old when we bought it, and it was one of the first steps into civilian life when I mustered out of the Army. It was the beginnings of living a middle class life. It lasted until the very first day when we moved into our first home three years later. We were counting on that $127 car payment being gone so we could make the mortgage. On to plan "B" when the transmission failed. Now we had a house and a car payment. We made it! It's hard to believe that was 34 years ago! Fond memories of a new life, one with promise and hope, and a little bell reminding me to put on my seat belt!

Thank you for sharing your story! These cars were bought, used and thrown away, and were a part of many people's daily lives for years. Un-sung heroes. Sports cars get all of the glory, but these were driven every single day, helping people get to work and build their lives. Very few still exist today and stories like yours make me glad to be able to share my cars like this!

I have a similar story. I use to own a VW 78 Scirocco hatchback. I got a 1.8 GTI motor in the back from a junkyard. Another time put a Opel GT motor in back for my friend also, drove it to his house. Getting stuff like that in was easy, getting the stuff out was allot harder. The trunk area was lower. Really hard lifting an engine out.
