Hi there! Once the phenoxide is formed in the reaction, it can possibly attach ionically to a sodium atom but remember that ions easily dissociates in aqueous mixtures so even if sodium phenate is formed, it will just be eventually dissolved in the reaction. Hope that makes sense!
