- The biggest bull I've ever seen! Every year I venture into the woods I continue to grow and learn more. Just like anything in life worth while, it takes time, it will be challenging and you will have to keep grinding. At the end of the day there is no other place Id rather be or something else I rather be doing than chasing bulls in the wilderness!

Good video, buddy. It just takes time in the woods being around elk and seeing what they do. If a cow or bull ever barks at you, always bark back right away.
Ha! “It’s elk hunting and I suck at it.” I tell myself that every year, yet I keep doing it!
Hahaha hey, if it was easy we wouldn’t enjoy it as much I guess…. Or at least that’s what they keep telling me
Same. I tell myself that at least 3 or 4 times a season. But I'm still out there learning and winging it every september
It takes years to really learn the art of archery elk hunting. I noticed a few mistakes but you'll learn from those mistakes. When the ruts on you can move faster. Cow and calf call when you're moving forward. Get behind the biggest tree between you and the bull and literally haul ass forward to close the gap. Bull elk in rut make quite a bit of noise at times, you can too. Bugling is overused these days. I have better luck with calf and cow calling. I'm almost 68 years old and still love archery elk hunting here in Arizona. Oh, and I'm still learning! Good luck with your next hunt.
Got me so pumped!!!
It’s not always a highlight reel. Good hunt man.
Awesome video man I solo hunt every year. And always learning something new.
Elk AND mule deer hunting in the high country is a challenge deluxe. Nothing easy nothing guaranteed! But the rush when it even looks like a shot may happen- so fricking awesome. 👍👍👀
Great video..
There are no secrets. You did what you should be doing. 🤙🏽😎
Really nice to see a real hunt, not some highlight video of them making it look easy!
Loved the hunt documentary. Montana definitely has some beautiful scenery. Looking forward to seeing more of your elk hunts.
It's called hunting not killing don't give up your day will come got stay 100% positive
I’m ready to do it all again this year!
@jeffcordero_ it's almost that time get out early the big bulls are roaming looking for cows
You’re 💯right. Everything looks so much farther than it actually is.
Makes walking much easier because can cover ground quickly
If you aint winnin your learnin.. Keep at it, it will happen.
Always learning. That’s all I can ask for
Great video! Good luck on your next hunt!
Wind can do many things.
Big bulls with babies in the herd might drag the herd into trees or a low spot with less wind.
But medium or small bulls might just deal with wind. It's less cold to them vs you.
Hard to say, but you're asking the right questions and using your brain. You'll be fine.
Awesome video bro. I got my butt kicked in colorado last year and will be headed back this year. This is definitely hard.
My only advice being from Montana. I think you talking into your camera so loud is echoing. I think you should do a after story when you are editing. And in that country being by yourself. Have a cow elk decoy. Set it up behind you and call behind you not at the bull. Good hunt man great video.
Thanks for the advice!
Put a 42 dollar pair of binoculars on a 10 dollar tripod 40 years ago and could not believe the difference it made. With these high dollar optics and rock steady mounts it's unreal what it does for you.
Right on bro,
Dont get discouraged.. I'm new to and have realized how hard hunting really is. With no one to help me Im learning alone.
The archery side of things is no concern as thats all I do is shoot.
Good out to 120 yards.
Putting your feet on the ground is a start. We will both get there eventually.
Good luck! Thanks for the content.
I'm sorry, are you a world champion archer? Did you just say you can shoot at an animal from 120 yards? With wind, not at a range. And unstable footing?
I think the best archer in the world shouldn't shoot at an elk beyond 80 yards. With no wind, and good footing.
That 120 yard shot is not true unless you are really unethical hunter. Nobody can place that shot well with confidence
Septembers coming quick! You pretty much earned September off after the jumping over Willy B’s hood maneuver. Hook an elk hunter out HMS!
Hahaha I can’t get the whole month off but I’ve banked some time 😉
What a cool hunt !
Rough hunt! Gotta stay out there man make a poncho pop tent when a storm comes because elk do what you do when rain comes sometimes! Good video keep hammering
You just gotta pay your dues. Boots on the ground and commitment. You’re starting off great, keep it up. May Wapiti good fortune blister your brow and cramp your legs sooner than later!
You've got to be aggressive, be ee aggressive! A-G-G-R-E-S-S-I-V-E!
Get it next time
Appreciated the learning experience as I prepare for my first elk hunt this season.
What Sitka hoody is that with the fleece liner? That looks comfortable and quiet.
It is the Ambient hoody. It’s both comfortable and quiet
If its just you trying to hunt Elk in an unknown area, the cards are against you son. The only game you can do that with is Black tail sheep there's enough of them you can rely on them to head for water at dark and will bed close by if there's fog. Elk will graze all night if there's a moon, and then sleep all day till 3-4 before looking for water, and typically not travel far if there' nothing to push them.
Just remember some guys go a lifetime without killing an elk especially depending on the state they hunt, don’t be so hard on yourself. There’s thousands of us all going through the same emotions
What part of MT were you in? Looks like eastern area around the breaks?
How do you have your camera hooked to your pack strap? That would be handy for quick access to filming something while you’re walking in/out.
Peak design makes a clip.
@@jeffcordero_ thank you!
I'd get vocal calling elk you'll have one come investigate, sound realistic when calling you'll get an elk come in... good job...
awesome hunt man. what camera are you using??
A Sony A7iii with a 24-105 lens. But you can always film the hunt with an iPhone. They do really great things now.
Dont let slow elk ( moo cows) change your plans, up here in SW Alberta ive had 60+ head follow me up a drainage and when i was cow calling during our hike party we had a bull rip off, 100% the sound of that herd helped. The elk that are in the same areas are used to them, just like they get used to traffic, recreational activities ect! Ive heard other stories of guys killing elk with cows behind them, in a pinch if youre ever pinned but have good wind, cow call and mock some ear movements like they do. Ive done it with both whitetail and mule and BOTH give me shot opportunities and even cone in to investigate. All about playing like youre prey.
Old wildlife photograohy trick there for you, open field with a moose. If you zig zag to close distance vs straight line it, theyre less interested in what youre doing. Bad wind will never change things tho
Don't be afraid to bark back either! I've sat for an hour barking back and forth, never came in but didn't spook the other elk. We both just wanted eachother to show face!
@@ElevatedTines that’s not a bad tool to have in the bag. Never really tried to bark before but you can bet I’ll be practicing for this year
Welcome to bow hunting, still fun though
Ton of fun. I’ll keeping going back for more
What happen to the elite omnia? Didn’t like it anymore?
This hunt was filmed last year. Haven’t taken the Omnia on a hunt yet
Not really, I've used cattle to my advantage. 😊
Good tip
Practice at 60/80 yrd shots, better than trying to call a elk into 25 then spooking him
I got some elk spots for you🤣
I'm no real expert, but #1, try to stop moving so much when you're in that close in more open areas like that. I understand you're trying to film and it's hard, but elk are masters at pinpointing where a sound came from and will be looking hard right where the noise is coming from. That's why having a buddy to call for you is so helpful; it keeps the heat off you. When you get to a position, get comfortable and become a statue. If you notice the videos of guys calling bulls in to
What state 2023 ??
Hunt colorado.
Agree. You talk too loudly into the camera while hunting.
Quit talking so loud!
