I've always considered this, in my head canon, to be Megs' upgrade in response to Powermaster Optimus Prime. Whereas Optimus' enhancements come from an alliance with, and teamwork alongside, another being, Megs' enhancements are all self-centred, selfish and artillery-based. Just feels right to me.
I have fond memories of this version. Megatron as a tank definitely works, and it would be great to see this re-released in a few different color schemes: classic Megatron silver, black, and red; woodland camo; desert camo; and black.
This is a version of Megatron that I'm shocked has never had a proper modern version. We had the Universe Deluxe and a Legends that were inspired by this, but they were still their own things and now we're just getting G1 Megatron in the G2 colors. You'd think this would be coming soon with us having gotten new versions of Laser Prime and Jhiaxus recently, but they decide that the green tank we needed to see return was Armada Megatron and the eventual Galvatron repaint he will get one day. And if we could only get one of the green Megs back I say they picked the right one. Even if the G2 is as great as it is.
You missed a step my friend! The shoulders slide forward in robot mode. G2 was an interesting time. We went from neon repaints to the most highly articulated figures of the line to that point. This Megatron design was awesome and deserves a true modern upgrade.
Great review! This was my first Megatron toy and I used to have him as Powermaster Op's rival! I could swear that there was an additional sound when the "locking" button was pulled back though.

I bought this MISB earlier this year. I could have had it graded, but NO, I had to open it and put it on display. The plastic is brittle so the left foot won't go down all the way, and the elbows won't bend. Still, I have zero regrets. Awesome figure all around.

I still remember my younger Step Brother having G-2 Megs. Loved the tank mold, sounds and robot mode but couldn't stand the color scheme. Would've looked so much cooler being Grey with Black camo.
Those G.I. Joe comics re-introducing and incorporating Transformers into the Marvel universe were well done and fun reads. Megatron was resentful for having to rely on human help in order to survive, but he was humbled a bit by the technological ingenuity and design used in his new body. C.O.B.R.A. and the 'cons working alongside each other always seemed to be congruent, especially where Destro's planning was involved. It's a good thing for Mr. Welker that they didn't produce an animated version of those stories. He would have been overworked for sure.
I had read where the G1 Megatron was the only one that turned into a gun. Because there were horrible accidents happen . Some kids got shot by the police for pointing the gun mode Megatron at them. And he was used to rob stores too in gun mode. So after that he never had a gun mode again.
This was a good one. That was the one figure I was really tempted to pick up back in the day when G2 was on the shelves. I thought he looked pretty cool, and I didn't mind the colour scheme. One thing though that I missed in the marvel comics run was how Galvatron got changed back into Megatron? I'd love to see a Furai model kit of Generation two Megatron. Since the IDW version of Megatron turned out so cool looking.

I always wanted this one, but I was in high school when it was released, and spending all my money on comics at the time. But a few years later, I worked out a big trade to get it and a bunch of other stuff-- but had to trade my Fort Max in the deal. And then immediately after getting it, my local KB got a whole slew of green tank Megatrons on clearance... bad timing.
I have to admit I use to think 90’s toys were junk! Maybe because at the time I was too old for them. Now looking back and having got into Beasts Wars I have realized I was wrong! These toys were amazing and yes I LOVE those wacky colors!😁 Adam Hurt was right! When he found out I was collecting some G2 Transformers he said I needed this one! Well I agree! I was old enough that when the G2s were released I had some money myself so I would buy them as I could afford. I’ve always loved the wild colors. I’ve still got about 30 G2s, with a complete and working Optimus prime. I did lose starscreams backpack though
I used to always be really annoyed that the oh so concerned child safety brigade felt they had to BAN Megatron by taking away his gun mode. But TBH, what is a tank but a big gun on wheels? And it makes a lot more sense for a giant robot to transform into a huge tank instead of a small handgun. So I've come around and I actually kinda wish Megatron had ALWAYS been a tank from the beginning.
Not as many kids being mistakenly shot by cops for waving around a miniaure toy tank instead of a realistic looking chrome Walther P38 I guess. But yeah, a tank alt mode from the beginning would have made more sense for his character.
You know i was gonna buy used (probley without any accessories for the images I remembered) for 40 bucks. I forgot about it and now its gone from the eBay listings (I think)
I love that stupid brick. But be very, VERY careful about the green panel for his head. It's very, very thin and it's pretty easy to break if you ham-hand it just slightly.

I understand that the Cobra Vehicles could be more far-fetched and more sci fi like, but when both side started one brightly colored and unrealistic, I started losing interest. Back when I was collecting the GI Joe toys in the nineties I was only like 104 pieces short of having everything up to that point. Got out in 1994.

I never liked the color scheme of this Megatron. But one tone probably would have made him a bit too dull. Okay which one is the Transformer! _The one that sticks out like a sore thumb?!_ lol

He didn't really change back. The Galvatron in the Marvel comics was a time traveller. It was a pretty cool moment when they meet each other.

Yesss the G2 Megatron Tank mode as guns not allowed for toys. Loved the spring actions and both modes.

You can store two missiles in the hollow leg sections there should be clips inside
