This is one of the weirdest kos. It is a ko absolutely, but it's actually from the original mold. Someone bought a warehouse I think in Germany decades ago and found the original molds. They ended up running them and making the box and foam for it. The original was a mail away, I got it back in the day with my robot points, and came in a white box. They ran the mold to death and flooded the market with these kos.
I got the original toy (the original Japanese non transformer toy) and my friends were jealous. They were like how did you get that? I was just lucky at a hobby store and they had like 2 of them.
I remember getting a KO reflector at the Woolco on Fairway road in Kitchener. KO’s were quite prevalent back then. I’m pretty sure my Starscream and Shockwave were KO’s too.
Nice to see another Kitchenerite in the comments. Now that’s going back! Woolco’s were great for KOs. I also remember seeing KO Starscreams and Soundwaves there.
I always really liked the way Reflector team looked in toy from. That's why I was happy that the modern one from Siege got redone in those colors. I love the way that one's weapons were made with how the guns can be a tripod and the shields are the lens.
Same. I got the toy version as my reflector. They having in my head cannon, individual personalities Got the cartoon version to be clones and scrap face to be the clone leader
Hi Micheal, Great video about Transformers G1 Decepticon Reflector(Patreon Special Missions), keep them coming, Also your latest video was magnificent, Also G1 Reflector is one of my favorite Decepticons of all time, Also Destron Designs is incredible. Also, Reflector has always been one of my favorite Decepticons, due to his single mind existing in three separate bodies at the same time. Ah yes, these guys, giving" shooting a picture" a bad name. I too love the concept of the three combining into different components of a camera, and it's design is pretty ingenious. Also, Great review for an Underrated Decepticon. Also, Great music this week. 80s era style electro goth. Like Legendary Pink Dots recording a soundtrack after smoking opium and watching Carnage Visors. Also, Awesome upload Micheal as always, have a great week. Also Reflector is voiced by the late great legendary Chris Latta RIP and may Chris continue to rest peacefully, Also the name of three Decepticons who compromised Relfector are:1.Spectro,2.Spyglass and 3.Viewfinder, also, thank you for sharing Micheal keep up the good work stay safe out there in Canada have a good day and Nerdmaste.🙂💪🟢🇺🇲👍🤓 7:40 pm.
i remember we sent for a lot of the mail away stuff back in the day. Reflector and some Autobots that were in a team called the Omnibots all came at once in the post. Cool times!
Having the triple unit that make Reflector is really out of the blue, Michael!!! Spector, Spyglass and Viewfinder maybe knockoffs of the original mold, yet it does make your toy Museum flash with more style, it is hard to find!!! Review as many as you can, bro, you have my full support!! Keep it up, our 80s memories are getting more nostalgic every time!!!
I remember seeing the original at Woolco back in 84, but I was still totally into Star Wars at the time. I remember the set looked different than the cartoon, and it was only around for a short time.
Might have been a KO like this one: thumbs.worthpoint.com/zoom/images2/1/0515/28/robot-camera-microx-transformers-g1_1_5717bc73f0f9c6c11642b4575d9f4cf1.jpg
The box was much more plain than this one. And the price was about the same as 3 or 4 Star Wars or G.I.Joe figures, so it wasn't that appealing at the time.
Thanks so much for showing me a G1 Reflector toy! 🙏 This is the first time I've gotten a close look at one. I'm a new fan of the Takara micro-change line. The idea of robots turning into roleplay objects is a fun concept! Excellent video production as always ❤ Wonder if we'll see a Reflector toy that takes pictures some day? 📸
As a kid in 1985 I was given as a gift the Reflector toy obviously it was not part of the Transformers line and I just assumed it was one of many TF copy cats swirling around but thanks to google I found the exact toy it was released either as Camera Robo or Robot to Camera and only later on with the advent of the TF fandom did I realize that I had as a kid a pre-Transformers Reflector.
I remember that he was not on the transformers catalog booklets but he was in the cartoon and I really wanted him. Then I saw what I thought was him at a pharmacy back in the 80's. So I ran with him to my mom and she got it. What I had found was the Camera-Robo Microx. I just thought it was all mispelled cause it came from a latin pharmacy. I was too young to understand, yet it did bother me that the box didn't look like a real Transformers box. He was still cool.
Ah yes, these guys, giving "shooting a picture" a bad name. I love the concept of the three combining into different components of a camera, and it's design is pretty ingenious. Great review for an underrated Decepticon. Also...is it me or Viewfineder's head kinda resembles a GM? The Gundam brainrot isn't getting to me now is it
I had the U.S. mailaway back in 1987, and honestly after watching this video, as well as another review of the KO, the quirks, and small QC issues existed on the original as well. I still want to pick up one of these KO's though, as my original is long gone.
Ah, I remember this figure well. My brother had the original that he mailed away for back in the day. It was truly a fun figure to play with. Maybe one day I'll add it back in the collection again. I'll probably avoid the KO version if I can though. The fragility issue from a newer version makes me warry of getting it.
As regards the Marvel comic, some robots which look a LOT like the Reflector trio are shown in the panels where the Decepticons are refuelling themselves, although never called out by name.
My theory on the Reflector character is that he is a “ghost in the machine” …. A joint creation between Shockwave and Soundwave reflector’s consciousness can possess up to three stock Cybertronians giving them the ability to transform and merge … because it is a single consciousness he can abandon a possessed body (much in the same way an agent in The Matrix can possess and abandon a human)
18:48 had this happen with the left? Wing on top of the Intake on my master piece Lazerbeak fresh out of the box and I when my heart dropped I think it stopped for the smallest second
Hey Michael. Always, a great video. It's funny, I was just fiddling with my g1 Reflector a couple of days ago and now you are posting a video on him. Also, unrelated, I have a vintage ThundercatsTuska warrior without his weapon, I can send it to you. His mechanism still works and he is in very good shape. Let me know if you want him, or not.
The first time I bought a G1 KO it was the early 2000's, and they were pretty terrible. The KOs you can buy today are excellent, especially with their reproduction packaging. I bought the dinobots and they look and feel perfect. I also have the Superion giftset on display and only a well trained eye can spot the difference.
I got a KO of this before they made the US styled box. The one I have just has a plain thin white cardboard box, I assume was a replica of the mail away box. It did have some text but I can't remember what it said. The quality of the figures are comparable with your KO. Speaking of mail aways, I did do one for Optimus Prime. I was so excited to send away the form and payment, I completely forgot to cut out the Robot Points, but Hasbro Canada still sent it to me anyways. The outside box is just a plain corrugated cardboard box with a stock code in the corner of the box and a mailing label. The inside is the styrofoam tray with the figure and accessories as you'd expect.
@@MichaelMercy True, but they probably wanted to cash the cheque too LOL. Besides, I filled out the form from the Powermaster Optimus Prime package, so they know I at the very least bought that. Sadly I sold my PM Prime to finance the purchase of the God Ginrai reissue in the early 2000's. I wish I still had it for comparison. But really, I don't have the display space for both anyways so it was for the better.
I recently picked up this KO as well! Had the exact same issue with the pegs. I managed to get one out ok, but the other broke apart inside the side bot.
Another great video. Now, is it my 50yo eyesight or have they spelled his name wrong on the camera mode on the box. OR, have you mentioned it already? Which means my hearing has gone too.
too bad Hasbro never sold reflector in stores. i would love to own them. but the only way i could get reflector was cut out the points from the back of all the transformer boxes & send away $10 i think & wait 6 to 8 weeks to get them
I have the mail ordered Reflector and the KO reflector. THe KO seems a bit cheaper he is looser but over all not a bad repro. The box was white and said Relector on it I dont have the box infromt of me but all in all bland the repro box is 100% better

Wow, even that Styrofoam is nostalgic! Reminds me of the Soundwave packaging. I did have the Reflector decoys...
Yeah that was a nice touch.

This video helps because he's one of the few G1's I still don't have. I've looked at this particular KO several times but been on the fence.
It's absolutely worth it for the box alone
I acquired this mail away recently in the camera robot mailer box
Keep up the great work Mr mercy

Thanks for the request! That would be cool, a working Reflector camera. We got an MP3 player Soundwave a few years ago so it could happen.

Thanks! Clever way of having army builders that don't take up too much space in alt mode too.

One of my favorite transformers. I do own 1. Same one seen here. My uncle however owned a real mail away one.
Destron Designs is incredible. Also, is Rumble hiding behind the box shaking things up? These guys can’t stay standing. 😂
The good thing I still kept the War For Cybertron Siege Refraktor recon team to this day, everybody has one.

I wish the Decpitcon,s was in the New live action movies
they were in Bumblebee.
Great vid! Thanks for posting!
I never had a jetfire but have several of the red pieces for him and his weapon.
LOL the Sid joke 😂😂😂
Poor Sid...😱

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for the offer, very generous of you. I've already got one though.
@@MichaelMercy No problem. Thanks Michael!
I’ve been wanting to pick one up. I never had the original Reflector but always wanted one.
Maybe graphite lubricant will loosen the joints and pegs

That was nice of Hasbro Canada to still send it without the robot points. Reminds me of some of the nice things Kenner did for fans back then.

Bummer. Thanks for the warning.
@@MichaelMercy Mine did the same thing. I used super glue to keep the peg on but also had to grind off some of the peg to make it not so tight.
I sent away for this. I remember sending in points and maybe something for shipping but it never arrived
Voiced by Chris Latta. RIP
Awesome review as always. After season 1 they just disappeared? I can understand Skyfire/Jetfire due to legal reasons, but what was the reason(s).
Thanks! Yeah, it's odd that they just vanished. I guess the Insecticons took their place as disposable clone foot soldiers.
Hasbro really messed up by not selling Reflector in the store
So in the marvel comics, are we safe to assume that the Reflector unit were the first on page casualties?...huh...
Cool.
Another great video. Now, is it my 50yo eyesight or have they spelled his name wrong on the camera mode on the box. OR, have you mentioned it already? Which means my hearing has gone too.
cool video....i always thought that this one was a size of soundwave.... is this a sort of constructicon size?
Thanks! Yeah, about that size. Here's a pic of them with the other 84 Deceps: static.seibertron.com/images/toys/files/03/r_reflector-068.jpg
thanks for the answer back... this one is on my list too very cool TF

Destron design do galvatron parts? Brilliant. Do they ship to the UK?
I got my ko one for temu for 5 dollars . Mine the legs was kind of off on mine . But 5 dollars am not mad at all .
Can you try history of Gi joe history 1988
Definitely not as well made as the original, but a good filler piece if you don't own the one. Just looked at the prices on ebay, glad I found an original in the early 90s!
I love these KOs, but the decals are horrible. Definitely get the Toyhax decals
😘👍
