I think it would be hard for anyone not to say that this was the best toy from the G2 era. It just and over all stunning design and has so much play value. Not to mention everything we got out of the Prime after the fact like how it was probably the basis for the movie Prime design and the R.I.D. 2001 Scourge being the most interesting evil black repaint of Prime and coming back as the villain for the most recent movie. Both it's modern updates in the Reveal the Shield and Legacy lines are great. Toxitron the canceled universe repaint that Botcon was able to kept alive and now have him at retail with the Legacy version of this Prime. We even got a cool Ultra Magnus out of this with the Takara E-Hobby stuff, which is cool because we've never had a G2 Magnus.
One of the most underated Transformers ever still old up to this day love is simple transformation ,this figure pave the way to beast wars .RID Scourge is my favorite color of this mold !!!
This was my childhood toy, it was the reissue and ever since my mom sold it in a yard sale I missed it ever since but at least Laser Optimus Prime got a Legacy figure and I eventually got it

I didn't get this when G2 was out but I did buy it when they rereleased him as Scourge from the Robots in Disguise series. I think he looked better with the evil paint job.
Evidently Optimus had given up on the whole "robots in disguise" thing at this point considering he has his name plastered all over his truck mode several time as well as an image of himself on the tanker with a flamethrower. *Real* subtle there, Prime.

Thanks for the tip. Just tried it and the trailer doesn't always make it all the way up, and when it does, the sides don't fall down on their own. All of my discs spill out too. Definitely safer than my method though. 😱

TBH is so cool how toy engeniering and stuff has evolved through the years... If you didn't know this was an official g2 toy, you could easily pass just Optimus as a nowadays dollar store knock off (one of those thats actually worth buying, that is), specially with those funny unnecessary stickers letting you know everywhere that's Optimus prime... jsut imagine changing that with... idk "deform robot" or that kind of fun stuff they put on every cheap knock off blister... It's still so simple yet so impressive, specially for it's time, and the articulation! Love it!
This was my Optimus. My first one. I remember my late aunt buying it for me when she visited us in the states. I loved this toy so much that the day he broke I got a second one. Awesome review.

Great video Michael! I saw this on Kay Bee Toys shelves one year before I started adult collecting. Unfortunately it was mostly gone by the time Beast Wars was on the shelves when I was 19 or 20 first getting my collection started. This toy alluded me and I still regret it to this day. I still have my Machine Wars Optimus Prime and Starscream, I believe I still Megastorm or whatevet his name was. The Megatron 1 step like smaller jet. And I did get the Reveal the Shield & Legacy version
I have the Legacy Toxitron, but seeing this one is so impressive, I am surprised how articulated it is and just, it looks really cool, personally I wouldnt mind having one without the electronics due to its other play features, and maybe a longer blaster
I had never seen this version of Optimus Prime, until this video. He is actually really cool looking, and I think I like him better than power master prime.
He snuck by a lot of people being released in the dying days of G2. He's grown a lot on me in recent years. A prototype to a lot of the cool features we see in modern Transformers.

You should review the new SS86 Ultra Magnus. It’s basically a downscaled version of the Masterpiece even to the point that the truck is meant to resemble MP 22/ MP10’s cab. It even has some minor improvements
My reissue instructions didn't include the weapons storage beyond the sword, must try that. Though my air pump hose is kinked and doesn't seem to fire the rocket.
I lol'd; none of us can get past Delta Force 2.... Great look at toy of an icon when the line wasn't at its height; that stuff is always interesting to me. They made a great toy it seems like, perhaps just for a character that kids weren't nuts about at the time. Love the springload transforming trailer!
Anyone who finishes Delta Force 2 will probably feel like the Delta Force did after the training session with Col. McCoy. Yeah this one was a highlight of the G2 era. The sticker department really let the sculpting department down though. Glad the Takara reissue got that part right and skipped the name tag, plus added chrome on the chest as well as the tanker. I'll be taking a look at that version soon.

So I knew next to nothing about G2. This must be where Bay got the idea to give Optimus an orange Energon sword in the live-action movies, considering he only ever used an axe in the G1 cartoon.
Amazing that nearly 30 years of advances in sculpting and technology and they managed to make a toy that's inferior in almost every way to the original.
I love this version and the year of the goat version. But I absolutely hate Legacy laser Optimus Prime's there's supposed to be better than the original but in my opinion they're not worth the plastic they're made out of.
I love the original Gen 2 laser Optimus Prime. I also have year of the goat laser Optimus Prime and yes I love it too, but I almost hate Legacy Evolution laser Optimus Prime and I have it as well. I feel very strongly that it is a very poor upgrade to the originals.
Such a mix of really good and really annoying...better than Powermaster prime in basically every way...except he has his name on his chest...even if I was a young kid when it dropped that would have annoyed me

I had him. Bought him with money from chores. $45 if I remember. Between him, Tank Megatron, and Dreadwing/Smokescreen, G2 ruled hard.

The Takara reissue fixed that issue.
It looks like one of those cheap toy trucks you would get at the dollar store. Nothing compared to the G1 iteration.
This makes the legacy one look half baked and over priced
I still have mine misb. I so want to take him out yet keep him case fresh so to speak lol
