  • The new SB140 is the middle child in Yeti's 2023 lineup, sandwiched between the SB120 on one side and the SB160 on the other. It's essentially the evolution of the SB130, the most popular model in Yeti's lineup for the last few years.

    The Yeti "lunch ride" models are designed for a specific trail in Golden Colorado, Apex Park. The climb is steep and techy, the downhill starts with rooty tech and moves into a blindingly fast mile long rock garden but is never super steep, so how you described the SB140LR is perfect for that trail. Colorado trails in general tend to be techy singletrack climbs and rocky downhills, but most are not as steep as PNW trails

    Levy has it right. This bike is the all-rounder. My 130 (the progenitor for this bike) can munch high altitude XC miles but also rip DH and everything in between. To Kaz's point, I do run a 40mm 10 deg rise stem. So agree with both opinions overall.

    Nice video. I’m glad PB is putting stuff on TH-cam-easier for us consumers to search a lot of vids when we’re researching. You all mentioned other bikes in the category, but never really said which ones for us to research. Also, a lot of focus on the DH-ness/bike park-ness capabilities. But never mentioned the fact they have a 160. Perhaps it was a little too harsh on the gravity capabilities, considering they have a bike more suited for that terrain. Thanks!

      I just purchased this model and I have to say that I think "Cass" was grading this bike as a DH when they have a 160 which is meant for those larger jumps and steeper trails. It's a fantastic all around bike with unbeliable traction and climbing capabilities.

    So when you look at the geometry on these bikes, the Trek and Yeti are very similar. Both have lower stack and longer reach than the Santa Cruz. I prefer the Yeti with high rise bars 30mm to raise the stack and 40mm stem (10mm shorter) to lower the reach. That fixes their pointed and front-wheel lifting comments. These are simple cockpit setup adjustments that most reviewers mention and notice (they are no secret). After these, you have 3 very similar bikes (minus the multiple frame adjustment options on the Trek).
    What’s odd is they say the Santa Cruz corners better than a Yeti? I’d think the Yeti owns the corners. With the switch infinity, it provides a more playful and poppy bike (firm rear), opening up the suspension when it’s pushed hard.
    I know they mentioned Norco’s website. Yeti’s site has also has setup system that wasn’t discussed. I wonder if they went to it?? It provides a ton of info and really helps customize the sus setup. I haven't seen anything like it and was very impressed.
    I know it may sound like it, but I'm not this die-hard Yeti dude. I own a 2021 SB130 LR with XT groupset (the model the new SB140 replaces). Bought it new on discount in April 22 for $5800. I wanted a good frame, with a quality suspension, drive train, brakes, and descent wheelset for a good value. I didn't have to have switch infinity and I would have been fine with a simpler sus design. But at that time you couldn’t find a similar spec Santa Cruz, Ibis, etc for cheaper. When you shop the builds you actually want, Yeti isn’t more expensive than these other brands. I wish Santa Cruz would have a Shimano option (the SRAM grade they use isn't the best performing derailluers and brakes; both pretty important for ride quality). You shouldn't have to immediately make upgrades to the groupset with their $6800 bike. If you look at the $5500 bike option, you no longer get a piggyback shock. Which, come-on, the Hightower needs. Also noticed Santa Cruz won't sell frame only options below their high-end cc grade. I really like their frames / bikes, but they make them tough to buy.

    Have a Ripmo, love it. What i love best about it is the POP is has. When fitted with a DVO topaz with a bunch of bands i. the positive you can absolutely launch it off small side hits, roots and rocks. Does this bike have the potential for that kid of pop ? or more of a trail “hugging” type of bike?

  • @bobsaget3841
    @bobsaget3841 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It feels better on the trails because when you are on the mtb trails the traction equates to more efficiency cause you aren’t slipping on roots, aren’t losing as much energy, and enables you to keep moving with each pedal rotation. When pedaling on a straight road traction doesn’t matter in the same way so the efficiency test really isn’t a good test at all for a mtb.

If you need more, get the SB160 or Megatower. Ibis doesn't offer a similar option, yet. I have a Ripmo AF with a 170 and it doesn't change it that much. My latest reality check is finding out how great of an all arounder my custom 2021 Trek Fuel EX was/is and that I can't stand the new 2023 Fuel EX. The 2023 Top Fuel too. They are "absolute precision" in terms of build quality and good value with the 9.7. Personally found they seem to ride for one niche, rather than built for trail-bike trekking like a Yeti SB 140 or a Santa Cruz HT. I'm personally kind of stunned the latest modern releases seem to offer less real-world value.

    I think it is interesting that most riders now want to compare the new SB140 to other 29ers. Most of this video was focused around how it went downhill. This was a 27.5 from the get go, so to compare this to other bikes in that category is a bit unfair. If you want to compare the 29 SB140 to other 29ers its probably warranted, but this bike is 27.5 through and through.
