I watch a lot of MTB content, and I also owned the SB130 - this is the best video I have seen talking about the new bike. You have a very clear communication that other channels don't. Great content!
Great video man! Your reviews are quickly becoming my gospel for determining which bikes to keep an eye on. Really looking forward to more thoughts and comparisons between this bike and the Hightower. Merry Xmas yo
The ibis ripmo v2s would be the biggest comparison to the Yeti sb140lr. For me, the Yeti and Ibis bikes are the top 2 most balanced do everything bikes out on the market. Seems to me Yeti leans more racing feel, whereas the Ibis seems to lean more playful. I would love to see more videos comparing them together.
Updating just the BB to threaded is good enough for me. And yes, geo now is good enough. So many diverse options, too many geo changes would bump into another existing option.
Your initial Occam ride review back in 2020 was awesome. Would love to see you do an update review for the Occam LT if possible. Cheers for the great content either way; fantastic reviews.
Thanks. Now that winter is finally letting up around here (we just barely started riding last week) we will be able to get more videos done. That showdown should be coming soon.
I have devoured your videos this past week. Outstanding content. So helpful. Keep it coming. Would still love to see the head to head more in-depth with the SB 140 vs the Hightower.
Geometry is about set in stone at this point. Ideally the industry will switch from boost to super boost so we can shorter up the rear end a little, this is especially important on smaller sizes, but aside from maybe more size specific geometry, seat tubes cant really get any steeper, head tubes cant get much slacker, and reach is really a product of seat tube angle so its not gonna get much longer. Seated distance from saddle to handlebars really hasnt changed too much over the decades even though reach has gone up inches because the saddle is now much further forward on the bike.
It kind of appears that at least for now we've settled in on this geo. I appreciate that chainstays have been getting longer recently, but then I ride XL and they've usually been a little shorter than I like. I'm curious to see what happens over the next few years though.
@@bikersedge I think chainstays are the only real place where substantial progress can be made in terms of geo. Like a 430mm CS on a bike with a 430mm reach will feel way different than on a 510mm reach bike. And small bikes often have chainstays that are longer than their reach figures which must feel incredibly strange to ride. Size specific CS's will hopefully become more common so a small bike can actually have a shorter CS than its reach and longer reaches can have longer CSs so everyone is in the same place on the bike
Hey thanks! Your best will will be to watch this to see how it compares to the 130. Then, take that info over to our all mountain showdown to see how that compares to the Ripmo.
A lot of folks tend to ride off the back of the bike, which isn’t where you should be but it’s what people are told as new riders. Those habits just stick. Bikes like the 130 aren’t as forgiving to that riding position. Agreed that if you stay centered you’ll do great on it though.
The more I watch your videos, the more I'm liking your channel and the more I can't wait for another awesome bike review. All of your bike reviews that I watched were just on point. So PLEASE keep it going!!! I'm 6' 2" as well, with 36" inseam and 72" wingspan. I've owned a Yeti SB6 and SB100 and now I'm on the SB130 LR w/ Cascade Link and reduced 150mm fork for slightly better climbing abilities. Being 6' 2" puts us right between the size L and XL with the Yeti brand. All of the three Yeti bikes I've owned were in size Large. I'm curios what size Yeti you normally ride and why? Also what's your inseam and wingspan? The only two things that I'm not fully happy with my SB130 LR is the ultra low BB and the fact that I have to always make sure to keep my weight over the front wheel on descends to prevent a washout of the front wheeel. So I've been considering to maybe switch my SB130 LR to something different. And there's just way too many really good bikes. My other shorter travel bike that I'll be using for about 90% of my Bay Area rides is Transition Spur with stock SID and SID Lux suspension. So the bigger All Mountain bike I'll be using only once or twice a month on the more demanding trails like Santa Cruz. Unfortunately I don't do bike parks at all. Since I don't do any lifts or shuttles, climbing ability is very important for me. And because I'm not riding enough, or at least as I would like to on the more demanding tarils, my descending skills level is just average. So a confidents inspiring descender is a very important factor as well. The bikes I'm currently considering are: Yeti SB140 LR (the New 29er) Ibis Ripmo V2S Santa Cruz Hightower V2 Transition Sentinel V2 Specialized SyumpJumper EVO Alchemy Arktos 135 Any thoughts or input about the list oof bikes? Thank You!!!
I'm on an XL 140 here, but I've owned both L and XL in the past. I probably prefer the XL for the added stability and to get those handlebars a bit higher. Out of your list of bikes I don't think you can go wrong for the type of riding you described. I personally really like the Sentinel as it's a bit more aggressive while still riding like an all-mountain bike. The HT V3 is a solid option too for a more aggressive descender. The 140 is going to be pretty balanced and the Ripmo will be on the "trail" side of the category. I can't speak for the other two. Don't know too much about them.
How do you think the new SB140LR compares to the previous SB150? Might seem like an apples to oranges comparison but that is my dilemma. Edit to say I absolutely love my SB150.
@@bikersedge I haven’t ridden the old 130LR or the new 140LR but what is interesting is that when comparing the SB150 geo chart to the new 140LR geo chart there is very little difference (medium size). @@JamesLG4 It's been a while since I've ridden a 150. It's a much more active, grounded, planted and aggressive bike than the 140/130 (even the LR.) I think a lot of it will one from more suspension on tap as well as kinematics and frame layup.
Thank you for a great review. I'm thinking about the Non LR 140 to save weight (I'm still on my trusty 5.5). What are your thoughts about the 150 vs 160 mm fork difference with respect to climbing and overall performance. TIA!!!
I honestly don’t think it changes too much in either direction. It’s going to be a pretty minor difference between the two. I did a lot of back to back on the 130LR and the 130. Never noticed a huge difference.
Great review!! If you could only choose one bike the SB140 or sb160 which one would you go for? Is there really much difference in climbing efficiency? Thanks
Depends on how you ride. Personally I have a 160 but that’s because it fits my riding style. The 140 is mor ever stole for more folks. Yes there’s a difference in climbing performance.
Could you please comment on its technical climbing ability vs the Trance X and its Maestro suspension? At over 60YO I’m more interested in climbing up gnarl the descending. Efficient and traction and that balance is what I’m looking for. I live in New England (have you ridden there?) and our terrain is probably polar opposite of yours. Endless rocks and roots, twisty tight trails littered with short punchy climbs and descents. No one’s pedals are unscathed and usually beat to a pulp. Trance X is a great deal compared to Yeti. Also considering (Gulp) regular Trance which might suit our terrain even better? Also learned on the Giant forum you can over shock it safely to just over 130mm travel with no frame interference.
Did you ever get a chance to try a Large sized sb140 considering you are 6'2 and you said this fit on the longer side? Yeti's size guide for this year model of bike says someone at 6'2 could fit on a Large or an Extra Large frame. If you did which do you prefer and if you didn't do you think it matters which one you grab? Thanks for the great mountain bike reviews.
I didn’t ride a large. Most yetis fit me a little long in the seated position/cockpit but I don’t like to size down as the stack height tends to get really low and I feel like the bars are below my knees when I’m standing up on the descents. I stick with XL and shorten the stem/scoot saddle forward.
Go watch our all mountain showdown to see how the Ripmo compares to the 130. Then come back here to see how the 130 compares to the 140. Im pretty sure I compared the Ripmo to the Rail 29 in the rail review too. You could check that out as well.
Where are you seeing an increase in stack height? According to Yeti's geo charts, they make the bike longer and lower (longer reach and shorter stack), which IMO is the biggest downside to the new SB140.

Your choice between RM Instinct and SB140 and why. Which one has the better ride all around. I’m sure the Yeti is better climbing but not sure. Am stuck between these two as my one bike.
"Better" is going to depend on your preferences and riding style. You're right that the Yeti is the better climber-It's more efficient. Even though the 140 is less racy than the older 130, I still think the Instinct feels like a more playful and poppy bike. Overall, I think they'll both be at home in the same kinds of terrain. It's just going to come down to how you like to ride a bike.
The reason why some slow down is because of the global market. They are just trying to adjust to the circumstances to make sure they will actually manage to survive tomorrow. I'm pretty sure that's the same thing, just trying to make sure they survive tomorrow.
Not sure that applies here. This is a brand new, completely redesigned bike. Not old inventory. The changes in geometry seem to be getting less and less radical these days though.
@@bikersedge It does apply because both approaches are done because of the same reason: *_The global financial market place._* You said yourself that the changes are not big, and it is done this way to try and attract both ends of buyers. Personally I think it’s more of a geometry getting pretty dialed thing. You have to keep in mind these bikes were all designed years ago to be launched right now. Well before any recent economic downturn.
@@bikersedge There's always a reason so I do not believe in coincidences. It's almost like you believe big companies like these are just wingin' it when it comes to their finance department. Of course they did not know about corona, but there are recessions happening over and over that they definitely will be planning ahead for like anybody else who deal with money. You will not survive if you're just walking around blindfolded.
Man if those guys could see into the future like that and predict a global pandemic, outdoor industry boom and then subsequent recession they should be betting on horses. They’d make way more money.
@@rlopez9044 gotcha The smuggler is much more trail than the HT and SB140. It rides smaller, quicker and lighter but it’s far less confident and capable.
I think the Rail 29 is plusher and more comfortable than this. When it comes down to it though, this will out descend the Rail I think. It's tough not having both to ride back to back though.
Hi! I’ll be upgrading to a new bike this summer. I currently own a 2017 specialized enduro which I plan to keep only use at my local bike park. I’m currently torn and can’t decided if I should go with the 140 standard or 140 LR . I’m looking for a bike that I can take on any trail. Aside from 10mm in travel between the standard and LR are there any other differences? Do they ride and handle the same? Why would Yeti make and give you an option to bump up to the LR?
If it helps, I don’t think most people would be able to tell which one they were on if they were blindfolded. The biggest thing will be tires and the grip 2 damper on the fork.
They're pretty similar in terms of intended application. Your best bet will be to watch our All Mountain showdown. that compares the 130 to the Ripmo. then come back here and see how this compares to the 130.
Thanks for the video! I am on the fence between saving a few dollars and getting a deal on an SB130LR or spending the extra and going for the new SB140LR that you reviewed here. Which one would you choose for a local Enduro race if you had to choose? Thanks for your help!
For an enduro race the 140 is going to be more comfortable and calm on the DH. For general trail riding it’s probably not too big of a difference. If you can save the money may as well!
@@bikersedge I sold a buddy that exact quiver 160e and 140LR....best of both worlds. You and I both ride XL, both own 130LR and agree that the 140LR is a refined bike with improved feel.. Your description sounds like what I would describe my coiled 130LR....great videos 👊
That’s an interesting one. The Rallon didn’t come to mind when I was making this video. While the Rallon is on the all mountain side of the enduro category I still think it’s significantly more capable than this. Lots more travel and slacker geo.
Funny thing is a lot of bike companies are going back to their original suspension designs. Today to much gimmicky ideas that serves no purpose other than trying to sell the bike. Is this just a coincidence? In my opinion Jamis MP2 suspension is the best. They have stuck to this design since the 90s. With a few minor tweaks here and there.
It might be silly-It's just their tagline. Most of their bikes have a pretty fast, firm, racy feel rather than a plush and playful feel. This bike seems to get away from that race feel though.

St George trails- beautiful!
Some of the best.
Great video!
Where does the Smuggler fits between these two bikes ?
Thank you .!
Which two?
@@bikersedge hi Connor,
The video compared a little bit the Yeti 140 and the SC Hightower so where the smuggler falls in this comparison ?
Tks
@@rlopez9044 gotcha
The smuggler is much more trail than the HT and SB140. It rides smaller, quicker and lighter but it’s far less confident and capable.
You should definitely sell merch. I'd buy a shirt with your color bar on it.
Lucky for you we just made some. Hit us up on the webchat feature on our website. We can make it happen.
I know they aren’t the same and all that but if you could only have one. New Ripley or SB 140?
Man. Those two are fairly different. Personally I’m taking the 140 because I like big bikes and burly descents.
Thank you !
Get a Status 140 and call it a day. Use the rest of your money on mtb trips🤘🏽
Or a stumpjumper...still way less $$ with equal performance...and a pound lighter
How’s the climbing with the 140 though?
How does it compare to the revel rail 29 you rode?
I think the Rail 29 is plusher and more comfortable than this. When it comes down to it though, this will out descend the Rail I think. It's tough not having both to ride back to back though.
Hi! I’ll be upgrading
to a new bike this summer.
The biggest thing will be tires and the grip 2 damper on the fork.
would you pick the 140 or 160 if you could own one for your wonderful backyard Utah?
Personally the 160. Although most folks will probably find the 140 to be a better fit.
How does it compare to the Ibis Ripmo?
I’ve rode the ripmo and I currently own a 130 and they’re very similar but the yeti can definitely take more of a beating
How does this compare to a Inis Ripmo and which bike would choose ?!?
They're pretty similar in terms of intended application. Your best bet will be to watch our All Mountain showdown. that compares the 130 to the Ripmo. then come back here and see how this compares to the 130.
Is it worth the upgrade from a 2021 SB140LR?
Completely different style of bike. This is a replacement/upgrade option from the 130. As far as I know the 27.5 sb140 doesn’t have a replacement yet.
Hi. Did you review this with the 150 or 160 fork? Very good review. Looking to possibly trade in my Capra and Izzo for one of these.
160. This is the LR version.
Does this bike sit between the new 5010 and Hightower if we were comparing Yeti with SC?
Maybe. I’d say it’s right there with the Hightower. That would be the closest comparison for me.
I’m curious to know how it compares to the Pivot Switchblade.
Not sure. That's not a brand we carry. Won't be able to make it happen.
@@bikersedge that’s unfortunate, Since I’ve heard the Pivot Switchblade, which is also 140mm travel,is a great technical climber.
How does this compare to the trance x 29? Thanks
I see the Trance X as a long travel trail bike. The 140 is closer to an all mountain bike.
you guys are great why don't you have more subscribers
Because you haven’t made all your friends subscribe yet.
Would you upgrade your 130LR for the new 140?
I don't have my 130 anymore but if I did, I'd 100% make the switch. The 140 suits my preferences much better.
@@bikersedgeCool. Thanks!
Have you rode the sb 160 at all?
@@sk8ingrocks10 yes. I owned one for a year. We have a review on the channel.
how does it compare to the new ripmo for climbs? thanks!
This might feel a bit more efficient but the Ripmo offers better traction and control.
@@bikersedge of your goal is plush and climb best between the 2. Which of the two would u pick? Thx!
@kevinmanzo862 plush and climb best don’t really go together. The Ripmo is more plush. The sb140 is the more efficient climber.
@@bikersedgethank you!
SB160 video coming soon?
I'd love to get my hands on one for review.
The real question is to only own the 140LR or a 120 and a 160 2 bike quiver lol
Throw a 160E in there while you're at it!
I want you to make a video how you are trying to squish a 24oz bottle there :D
Fits no problem on an XL frame. Not sure about other sizes.
@@bikersedge oh, cool. So new bike day, then :D
@@alexandrucovaliov8989 enjoy!
How'd you compare this bike to the 2022 orbea rallon? Going up and down?
That’s an interesting one. The Rallon didn’t come to mind when I was making this video. While the Rallon is on the all mountain side of the enduro category I still think it’s significantly more capable than this. Lots more travel and slacker geo.
@bikersedge awesome!! BTW your reviews are awesome I watch so many reviews and yours definitely hit the nail on the head!!!
Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate the kind words.
Does anyone know what sb stands for?
Pretty sure it’s “super bike”
Why is it called lunch ride
Thats a great question for Yeti.
Sb140 vs Shadowcat. Mullet!?!
We don't carry Pivot at the shop. Won't be able to make it happen.
The old Yetis are faster but scarier
Faster uphill. Maybe not downhill.
You need to get your hands on that 4k Norco fluid. Word on the streets is it crushes the Yeti on climbs and Descents.
Wish I could. Unfortunately it won’t be able to happen.
Love how the SBLR isn't quite as playful as the SB140. Sounds like a great balance.
Nobody wants to talk about the price of these bikes yet they are never at the top of performance .
I'm not sure what race bred means
It’s yetis tagline. It’s their race oriented mantra and design approach.
@@bikersedge Sounds silly. What would you race it in. Great review
It might be silly-It's just their tagline. Most of their bikes have a pretty fast, firm, racy feel rather than a plush and playful feel. This bike seems to get away from that race feel though.
I love this channel. Commenting for the Algorithm
Did you say $8800 jilion kigilion billion dollars?!?!?😳
Nah only $7
