MY AUNT DIANE TOOK ME TO SEE THIS I WAS 6 OR 7 YEARS OLD WE WENT TO THE AFTERNOON SHOW THAT WAS THE BEST PART OF LIVING IN UPTOWN IN HARLEM WE WOULD SPEND THE WEEKEND AT MY GRANDMOTHER'S AND WOULD WALK 4 BLOCKS TO THE THEATER YOU COULDN'T BEAT IT!!!
I'm obsessed with Motown music!! Ever since I can remember I was enamored of the music that comes from this era...My parents played their music all the time
Dang! Everyone is so young, talented, and hungry to reach the peak of their Legendary Careers! Berry Gordy's "Motown Locomotive Music Machine" was just beginning to steam roll itself up that Record Breaking Hill straight into Music Hall of Fame History, Baby!
No comment yet? This is some of the best music ever created. Even as a dedicated metalhead, I can appreciate this stuff. Marvelettes could do no wrong, in my book.
Love how Martha flings that teddy bear off to the side! The Supremes still hadn't had a Top 40 hit by then, and I think singing a ballad for this appearance, however good, was a mistake.
My Music Soundtrack of Life !!! This is so great to see and hear!! Thank You!!! Luv Ya!! The Great Mary Wells !!!! Martha and the Vandellas !!! Little Stevie Wonder !!! The whole Show !!!!
historical document. Wish the audio quality was better, but we are lucky to have this the way it is.. on the plus side, the bass stands out well in the mix...
So nice and raw! Really shows the talents behind the (later) hits and superstardoms. These reviews were a way of showcasing and consolidating the Motown brand. Really wonderful to see!!
I love it! This is beyond awesome!!!Seeing all the Motown superstars in the early years before they became the legends that they all would later become. Raw talent at it's best. To think they likely had no idea how they would change the world through their music. Thank you for posting this video.
The Contours were more known for their Dancing than Singing, once The Temptations & Four tops they were blown out of the way. They aren't even in The Rock 'N Roll Hall Of Fame.
Great upload Gamel Moore!!! I was 10 years old when this performance of the Motortown Revue was filmed at the famous Apollo in NYC. All of the legends of Motown are in this upload. Excellent!!!!!!!!
I know Smokey must have been so proud considering that Four Years earlier the Miracles were so bad that Frank Shipman called Berry Gordy and screamed for his Money back.
Thanks for posting this. I was born in the ‘D’ in ’59. Remember wanting to go to the Reviews when they were in the Downtown theaters and being told...”You’re TOO SMALL”.
Who is Stevie ' s conductor? Choker Campbell takes the first sax chair for his set. And who is the bass player who leads the band during Mary Wells' set? It is NOT James Jamerson who along with Benny Benjamin on drums are on the Miracles set that closes the show.

LIVE performances!!..no lip-synching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also liked Marvin Gaye Hitch Hike and also The Marvelettes Playboy
Was Martha Reeves "Moonwalking" off stage? This was when The Vandellas and Contours had more popularity than Supremes and Temptations.

The good old days classy and timeless!

Man! That Choker Campbell could blow! And it's great to see The Love-Tones perform with Mary Wells! They were a great harmony group.
Oops! I guess that was 4 of The 5 Temptations.
Must be Eddie Kendricks on the left, then Melvin Franklin, then Otis Williams, and Paul Williams on the right. Elbie Bryant is missing.
Man! Thank you for posting this!! I think that is my Dad, Patrick Williams, on trumpet (The one closest to the drums)

MOTOWN THE BEST GROUPS OF PEOPLE
raw future on stage presence and talent - with the best from Martha and Gladys
Technology has come along way. The sound is incredibly clear. Thank you for the memories.
The Contours were more known for their Dancing than Singing, once The Temptations & Four tops they were blown out of the way. They aren't even in The Rock 'N Roll Hall Of Fame.
What a groove it was!!!

I know Smokey must have been so proud considering that Four Years earlier the Miracles were so bad that Frank Shipman called Berry Gordy and screamed for his Money back.
They were not yet polished. But, it was coming!!!
Temps singing background for Mary Wells on Two Lovers. For me, the tempo in almost the songs was too fast.

Who is Stevie ' s conductor? Choker Campbell takes the first sax chair for his set.
And who is the bass player who leads the band during Mary Wells' set?
It is NOT James Jamerson who along with Benny Benjamin on drums are on the Miracles set that closes the show.
Stevie conductor was Clarence Paul, Benny & James is playing with the Miracles
I don't get it. The Temptations only backed up Mary Wells? Where was David Ruffin?
David didn't join The Temptations til January 1964
Wonderful!
Smokey, it’s a good thing you were a great lyrics writer. As a singer you weren’t great in your younger years. You got better with age.
Diana Ross...Just a special talent. Wow.
#MOTOWN
