- One of the greatest singers in The Temptations long history, sadly only occasionally featured as lead vocalist. Due to ill health and personal problems he left The Tempts in 1971. To give him support the group kept him on the payroll as an advisor and choreographer. He died at the tragically young age of 34 in August 1973.

Yeah I can see he is in pain… same with T-Boz from TLC. I was watching her performance and I told my family she looks like she is in pain and sure enough after that performance she went to the ER with complications of sickle cell

@@bernadettehudson3346 He was The Temptations early lead; he and Eddie Kendricks hailed from Birmingham, Alabama. "Meet The Temptations" (1963) features Paul Williams on lead. He also was the group's first choreographer. When they acquired David Ruffin in 1964, he and Eddie Kendricks were doing leads and co-leads. Paul got lucky with the "B" side of "My Baby" . "Don't Look Back" became a hit. However, David Ruffin and Eddie Kendricks voices were more marketable, in the end.

Paul, the original showman in The Classic Five. His singing and dancing made him the first black male soul group front man. His voice distinctive, his moves seamless to the beat, and well blended with the lyrics. Rest in peace. You left us way too soon, but your voice, style, and choreography will last forever. 🎤🎩👞

The BEST TEMPTATION LINE UP! Often imitated but NEVER DUPLICATED. Tall,Tempting, TALENTED and easy on the eyes. LEGENDS and the yardstick which future groups would be measured by.
Paul, though, was great. And he had pure warmth. There was a heartfelt soulfulness. He had that gospel quality. He must have been amazing in church.

I'm embarrassed to say that I didn't know Paul sang lead to some of the Temps songs, but what a wonderful discovery to find such a hidden gem.(I assumed it was David Ruffin singing lead on "don't look back" ).😂
Paul was the original lead singer. Eldridge Bryant was fired and David Ruffin was hired.
Paul led a few songs before David Ruffin even JOINED the group!!....

Had the pleasure of meeting Otis William,last surviving Temps,at the “Ain’t To Proud” broadway stage play.Extremely gracious and humble man..He’s 82 years old,doesn’t look it at all.As I look at this video all the temps singing on stage have passed away except for Otis.According to the play based on his book,he didn’t indulge in drugs and alcohol as the others did..Maybe that’s why he’s still alive..The play was awesome btw.

The miniseries was from Otis Williams book. You can't take him for his word. Paul suffered from Sickle Cell. They didn't even mention that in the movie. Blue didn't die in his Mama kitchen. His immune system was messed up from taking all those cortisone shots. He died in the hospital. Ruffin & his death was fabricated as well
He was out of control when I met him in 1971 at the Civic Arena Pittsburgh PA. I was security up front an back stage. They were trying to manage him but not very effective I was amazed and shocked as a yout.

I am blessed to have seen them (Motown Review) at the original Regal Theater in Chicago on South Park in the 60s when I was fourteen. Man I loved this music - thanks for sharing this

Wow, too great a singer to have been so unsung! Such a rich voice, heartfelt expression, and always in tune…which is something not always accomplished, even by the most famous of singers, especially in the pop genre. He was the “other guy” who gave the Terminations their reputation of versatility. They wouldn’t have been the same without him.
There was someting magical about Paul. His voice is amazing and he can Ssaaaangg! I share lots with him except i cant sing like him. Ill pass out trying. Im a sickle cell warrior and i was born 9 days after his birth date but 3 decades later than him.
I was just moved to tears by that last song, I'm a sucker for those. I've only heard a bit of it in the tv special.
