Yes. Give Cholly Atkins a former Tapdancer did the Choreography for all of the Motown Acts back in the day. His former Partner Honi Coles would later Manage The Apollo Theater when The Miracles did their disastrous debut in 1959. Then to think that One Year later The Supremes would supersede The Marvelettes as the Biggest Girlband in the world and survive The British Invasion.
The older lady who choreographed them taught them not to stick their butts out. Those Zulu moves of crouching low and sticking the butt out was a no-no. The girls learned well not to turn off the white audiences. I wish they were given more hits. Good performers and a fun show.

They helped epitomize The Girl Group Phenomenon that was at it's original peak from 1960-1964. The Supremes became the Label's Biggest Girl Group and they were pretty much to the wayside. This was done around 1962, two years before "Where Did Our Love Go".

GLADYS HORTON & The Marvelettes are the first group to deliver Berry Gordy/Motown Records their first # 1 HIT that put them on the map. They never got any recognition, NO GOLD RECORD ever given, NO RESPECT.
In 2004 RIAA certified gold (at last) "Don't Mess With Bill" and, of course, "Please Mr. Postman". I think Motown never paid the fees and that's the reason so many hits in this label remained without the award until recent times (seventeen gold and platinum just for The Temptations). It happened too with James Brown in the King label.
someone needs to write a good book about the Marvelettes each one of them ladies how they came about and even do a movie about the Marvelettes and not just a move. The Marvelettes what about the Vandellas and also a movie about The Supremes the real true life story of The Supremes.

T. Campuzano ...Sickening, isn't it?
I ❤everything about The Marvelletes especially how they command the crowd and stage etiquette before Motown started charm school. And I'm loving how Gladys &Wanda shared that song!! The Supremes could have done something along those lines just to keep everyone happy,or@ the very least keep the solos they already had for christ's sake 🙄also love Gladys' dimples and Wanda's.
REMEMBERNG GEORGEANNA TILLMAN GORDON
(FEBRUARY 6, 1944 - JAN 6, 1980)
Sh was my favorite...so adorable
God bless her talent
I love the Marvelettes, awersome singers and performers, thanks for this post, brings back memories of all the great motown girl groups , Martha and the Vandella's and the Supremes.Loved this clip.
Ashley said so brought me here to check out ❤😂
Don't think comparing is fair with other groups as each group has it's style. The Marvelettes were just in a unique class of their own who excelled in all areas- credit due. And credit to their great performance in heels, as well!! Loved their hard work at the Apollo!!!
Wow, how I remember those days. What a great time that was.
i love this clip! it really showcases what great entertainers they were! raw and forceful and fun! i was very sad that they failed to be one of the groups inducted into the ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME this year. i fear they will never get the credit they deserve...
I’m loving the Marvelettes!! This clip was so dope!!! Sooooooooo underated!
They were Far more rhythmical than most of the girl groups back!
Alex Riddick yes I agree. I saw them many times in the motor town review shows. They had very cool and kind of tough moves
GLADYS HORTON & The Marvelettes are the first group to deliver Berry Gordy/Motown Records their first # 1 HIT that put them on the map. They never got any recognition, NO GOLD RECORD ever given, NO RESPECT.
It was sad when Gladys died...she died just down the street from my high school in Sherman Oaks.
I must say that the Marvellettes put on a performance at the Apollo for the Motown Revue . 🎵🎤
Awesome. These girls could work the crowd. Love the guy at the end just having a good time and the girls were letting him join in.
Katherine Anderson, the tall one in the middle has a recent performance here on TH-cam. She’s performing with her cane
Queens of Motown. Period!
someone needs to write a good book about the Marvelettes each one of them ladies how they came about and even do a movie about the Marvelettes and not just a move. The Marvelettes what about the Vandellas and also a movie about The Supremes the real true life story of The Supremes.
Therone Dawson someone did write a book about the Marvelettes, entitled The Original Marvelettes: Motown's Mystery Girl Group. It's on Amazon.
@@alexandradillard2077 Yes, it was a very good book.
Kickin it outside listening to oldies on the front yard swing!! :-)
Wow great performance. Ladies stayed in step. Dude was fascinated!!
Great performance and these young ladies could dance!!! All under the age of 21 during this performance!!
ooooooo The Marvelettes were fierce!! looking french couture chic!
I was lucky enough to have seen the Motown Revue- pre Temps! These girls were great! A great combination of soul and street, Not overly polished. I loved the 2 ballads "Strange I Know and "Someday Someway." I remember this from that show!
THANK YOU!!
Wanda would go on to really sing the best songs for the group and for me as a kid 10 years younger than them I grew up loving her lead , (Don't mess with bill ) and the song by Carla Thomas (baby oh Baby) was the biggest songs in those years by females. And my condolences go out for Wanda and family losing her daughter Miracle today, I Grieve with you my love!
Just love thé way switch up lead singers. Si Smith😍
Awesome clip! It's cool to see Georgeanna Tillman in there. She doesn't show up in much of the extant Marvelettes footage.
Beautiful. I love them. Everything they do.
This is so awesome ! I’m 28 and listening bro this I would’ve love to be in this era singing in a group
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what serious talent looks and sounds like.
THE MOST TALENTED GIRL GROUP AT MOTOWN
More than just that....They put Motown on the map with the very FIRST Motown gold record--LOOK IT UP❣
@@gwendolynbutler Gladys Horton said they never had that gold record and weren't even told it was the first Motown number 1. Berry and Smokey didn't want them demanding their rights or anything.
@@gwendolynbutlerI mean, she must have known it was number one. She said she didn't know for thirty years. Nevertheless, I do believe they were kept in the dark as much as possible.
They walked right on stage and got it in whew
This is live ,harmonization!!! Personality , this is a real show!! This is what you go to a show for!! To have a good time!!
This is a master piece

They were a total power house!
They didn’t get the credit they definitely deserved..
The Marveletts were the cream of the female groups. I had the great opportunity to meet them at a club in Cleveland,Ohio called the Music Box they played there many times. The ladies were smooth and cool. Thank you for posting this footage. Tony Dial
i'm so glad you enjoyed it!
