This is the best satisfactory advice ive found, for whatever reason it vibed with me like no other "x tips for beginners" videos. I was dealing with a feeling of unsure where to go, thanks mate!
Here's how I build a massive base: 1. Build whatever without thinking much about it 2. Realize it's not going to work 3. Delete everything into awesome sink 4. Rebuild everything giving it some thought 5. Cash in all those awesome shop coupons 6. Realize I still suck at building 7. Delete everything again 8. Watch some youtube vids
Very good video. You're pointing at the most important things to know. I would add just a few more : 1) BEFORE you build anything, think about the best place to do it. Making a mega-base in the middle of Dune Desert and bringing dozens of water pipes to it 200m above the ground is NOT the best idea. 2) If you intend to use a bottom-up model, think about the place and the infrastructures you will need for transportation of your items from point A to point B. That model is perfectly fine - I use it as well as the top-down one - but you need more conveyor belts between your production lines. They take a lot a space and you have to think carefully about where you will make them go. If you don't think about it, you'll have a very common situation where a bus of resources needs to cross another one, and that's how belt mayhems begin. 3) Another tip, related to the previous one: think about the zoning of your factory before you build anything. And especially if you choose a top-down model, because you'll have to organise many different production lines, and the goal is not to have to make resources move across the whole factory if you can build your production lines next to each other. You'll have to think in three dimensions: when you build your factory, let some areas void on each floor so you can make your items move vertically easily. 4) Think about your power consumption and think about a process in order to bring your power plants back to life in case of blackout. That point is very important because if you don't anticipate this kind of situation, once your mega turbofuel power plant gets down, you won't have enough power to make more turbofuel and to feed your generators. So, big, big problem. 5) About troubleshooting. Before telling the tip, I'll say how I came to it. in my first game, I built a turbo motors factory and after a few hours, I noticed that something was wrong, because I ran out of motors too quickly. I moved to another factory where these motors were built and I noticed that the production was too low. I checked all my production lines and finally I found the issue: somewhere in my steel pipe production line, I put a Mk1 conveyor belt where a Mk4 was needed. That little single mistake had messed up my whole turbo motors factory! But now this problem is ancient story because now I use Mk5 conveyor belts EVERYWHERE, even where I don't need them. The only situation where I use other types of conveyor belts is when I need to take out a precise amount of items (60, 120...). There is another advantage: it helps feeding your machines faster, which is quite important for the efficiency of the production lines - I won't enter into details, but I use an hybrid system between low balancing and overflow that offers the best compromise between efficiency and compacity.
Thanks for the tips ! The builds shown in this video are incredibly wonderful, such a nice mega-space-automated-factory-with-no-human-and-burn-this-planet-to-the-ground, I love it !
Really dig your video. I watch most people act like cartoon characters to get an audience. This presented intimidating scope and calming design without gimmicks. well done buddy, hope you keep doing the vids.
I wrote a Steam review at 5.5 hours amazed at how good it is. Im 170 hours in now and i just cant stop. I've rebuilt my base multiple times now and yet im still having a blast. I cant get anywhere near this efficient though. I just built what i called a mega factory and that's just 2 Pure nodes and 2 floors of 8 smelters haha.
Dan, what inspiration! I've been thinking about the concept of buffer storage (1:40 in your video) - do you find issues with the container outputs? I can't seem to get it to prioritise an input therefore it can jam the line-in whilst the overflow (to the next storage container) is still working.
Yes I think I understand what you mean with the containers. One thing you can work with is; as long as a container has items, you can deffinatley draw from both outputs at 780/min. If you are having trouble with overflow and jamming, have you tried using the new "overflow" option on the smart splitters?
Would you have vids or links to how you built your factories that maybe someone who might not be as apt at designing things efficiently that someone could say copy? Or use as a template? I love this game but I'm not sure I'm up to the challenge of building huge factories yet. I've only unlocked advanced steel but have even started automating steel yet
Great tips Dan. Im starting my first mega base now, and everything is so overwhelming when you dor it for the first time, specially if you suck at designing the base, like I do.
I know what you mean. I am still on my first play through and have the beginnings of a mega base with a two storey, twin track train system as it's main bus. The system uses direct transfer of goods as well as stations that are dedicated to providing , for instance, all the parts required for computers. I have pulled down nearly everything I started with . My base has evolved more than been planned as i learned more about the game.
@@schroedingerscat2.054 I've been playing since the release of the game, but I never did a mega base, also i never used trains. I need to get some tips on how to use the trains more efficiently.
Mods. There are 3 mods (I think) that allow this currently - Pak Utility Mod, MoarFactory and Area Actions. Each have a flying mode. Check out ficsit.app for more info.
Pak utility mod is better than area actions for flying. Having played over 750 hours without mods the Pak mod varying flight speeds make the game more fun.
Maybe I'm just that slow, but I have to start with a junker starter base. I cannot, in my mind, start a new world and think, "Here will be the tumor of industry I will ruin this planet with in style and efficiency." I always end up building starter, interim, and outpost bases first before going huge. Partially because I like doing things once (setting up a messy base is fine, but having to coordinate a clean base and then build, upgrade, remove to upgrade, expand for upgrade, wait for resources for spatial expansion, get new wall or foundation part, go back and forget what I had planned, remember mid exploration, forget when I get back is way too much for me,) but I also like having every building block I could require so that I can at least get an idea of floor height segment sizes. It's really hard to do when you don't have foundations unlocked yet or you need the concrete for other more useful things in the immediate. Also, consider this mantra when starting off; Do you require your base to be good enough now or does it need to be absolutely perfect next month? If it's the latter then you're never going to build your HUB and start the game. Settle for good enough now and then get to that perfection.
Nice video bro. I'm glad I'm not the only one that says build big. I try to make vids too (vanilla). Would love some feed back, if you got a moment or two.

I’ve spent about 300 hours on this game so far and still haven’t figured out how to utilize a massive storage hub, when you’re not sure how much of a particular item you’re going to need and factories spread out kilometers away from each other. While I agree with the "go big" precept for factories... it's inefficient and unnecessary for power plants, aside from nuclear. The reason is simple... it's easier to run a power line, than it is to facilitate logistics for both the power source raw material AND the water, especially when the game doesn't limit throughput for power lines.

Oh yeah...we don't use mods ;-)
Ah yes, tips for something I will never be able to create
I sure hope you guys are communicating to the devs quality of life feedback from building stuff like this. There are some serious flaws in the UX of Satisfactory.
Yeah, I think because it's technically still early access it's not 100% optimized
handsomely
I cant tell you how many times I wiped the whole factory and started over....lol
I lack the necessary amount of brain-cells to build like this in the first place.
can i have your save?
my tip is dont do it, your framerate will suffer too much
I'm only runny a 1070 graphics card... a new PC is on the cards I think! 🤣
@@danp6918 not gonna spend a grand on a video card
I get the big base usefullness for getting everything quickly.
But why u putting all productions in 1 area.
As soon as you get close to that area, your just raping your cpu and gpu, even if its a 3090 and a 10900k, that aint efficient in my book 😄
Im building smaller factories and ship the goods around with trains.
My big base is a 11x24 1 story base where everything comes in at small rates to shop and prep for projects.
My world wont break in lag as fast 👍
NO REGERTS!
