I was a kid in the late 50s. I enjoyed this music all through my life. Thank you very very much for showing us missed your days. I’m glad there still around and doing good.
The 1st Rock Concert I ever went to - I was 14 years old - Grass Roots - Spring of 1971 = "Temptation Eyes" was in the top 10 that very week, Roseburg, Oregon - For the encore the lead guitarist did Jimi Hendrix's version of "Star Spangled Banner" wow.
I am so glad you documented so much of this cruise. I keep up with the Cowsills but it was wonderful to see these other bands too. As a bass player I really got into the Grass Roots bassist. Playing all those original Joe Osborn parts and singing great too! And that Chicago bassist, wow !
Unfortunately, that group was not Chicago. It is called the California Transit Authority. Go to a real Chicago concert and see the tremendous difference.
We were there also. This was our 5th flower power cruise haven't missed it since 2018 except for covid years 2020 and 2021 we were booked for those and just waited until 2022.
So true. Wish Grill was still around. He helped put together this "tribute" group before his death. Not sure what 79-year old Entner is doing. I saw them in '69. I was in junior high.
It's great to hear these old Grass Roots classics but how can a group of guys who were never in the original 1960's band, and came on board in the 1990's, call themselves The Grass Roots?
They guy on the left is and original member.....this is the way of the new world...all one has to do is own the name legally and you can man it with whoever you want!
@@richbailey8174 None of the musicians on this stage were on any Grassroots recordings ever. The lead guitarist did play with original lead singer/bassist Rob Grill for many years, but never was any Grassroots album or single. Rob Grill bought out all the other members to own the Grassroots name. When he passed, his estate now leases the name to the musicians you see here. They do an excellent job but can only tour legally with permission of the owner of the name (Rob Grill's estate), and of course paying a fee to use the name .
@@richbailey8174 Read the bios on the Cruise website. None of the guys in that faux band were in to before the mid 1990’s. It’s a totsl farce that they’re touring as the Grass Roots.
All those hits from the four guys back in '68-'70 were Rob Grill and Warren Entner and the other two singing but they used the Wrecking Crew for instruments (very common for many bands to quickly get very precise recordings Carol Kay even contributed the opening bass line for Midnight Confessions). But those four original guys could play live. I saw them in Amarillo, Texas and to my young ears everything sounded perfect. I guess the horns were done with keyboards. But these current guys were recruited by Rob Grill and if he were still alive, he would be up there. I was like a tribute band, but a good one, and my group was smiling, dancing, singing along. They do have the legal rights to The Grass Roots name. Probably the closest you are going to get to hearing Grassroots.
Part of the reason may be that the four originals didn't write their own songs or even play on the albums (using The Wrecking Crew). But I certainly loved their music as a child and still do. It's fun and brings back wonderful memories. Lots of hits that helped define the times.
Most people just want to hear songs they remember and don't care if ANY of the members are original. I feel differently but no one cares and that's fine with me.
This is the band Rob Grill put together before his death and they legally own the name. I knew I would not be seeing Grill, Entner, Coonce, or any of those guys I saw in '69. I will say they were better than I expected and probably better than the sound my iPhone captured. Love the songs so much I felt it was better than nothing. Don't know of any other Grass Roots tribute bands so this is the best you are going to get. I have no way on knowing but I think Grill would be proud they are carrying on the legacy, especially since he picked them. If you read the history, they were always a bit of a manufactured band starting with Steve Barri, P.F. Sloan, and Joel Larson. But some great songs!
@@RichardJCaudle But still these bands should inform the public they are not the original Grass Roots as you are not paying for what you assume you are getting. Does not matter how good they are they are deseving the public. Now if Ring Starr got three other clown and called it the Beatles would that be right. No everyone would be offended if that happened and pissed off.
@@RichardJCaudle I also went and seen the Grass Roots many years ago but I mainly went to see Rob Gill not the others. He was great I love the performance. Rest in Peave Rob

Thanks for posting this. My first Flower Power cruise, it was awesome! Please post more videos from the cruise.
I will post more. Glad you liked it.

I will be there next year and 14 days adding on Rock & Romance. So hopeful I can meet you. Everyone is so friendly!!
Powerful voice and great songs.
Mark Dawson is one great guy!!!
I agree, just saw them last year in Milwaukee (Happy Together Tour) Suburb Show !!!
These guys do a great job but they aren't Rob Grill and Warren Entner.

You got that right
The great songs carry the current “Grass Roots”. Good tribute.😎

@@asr53 Thanks for clearing that up on that guy...I don't know many Grassroots details...I still don't like these totally fake bands!
Nice tribute band. Sounds pretty good.
Rob before he died he wanted Mark
Yes he did.
They sound Amazing !!!
If it ain't the originals, it's not the Grass Roots. Rob Gill R.I.P.
Great music 60 and the 70's think this was on AM RADIO
Now they want to eliminate AM in car's
What cruise line is this on?
Such an absolute shame that the Grass Roots are not in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame!

@@RichardJCaudle Elvis didn't write any of his songs either but I suppose he's in due to his impact he had on the world.
@@JESUS-SAVES_1975. Good point.
This, at best, is a cover band. Sadly Rob Grill the original singer has passed. There are no original members in this lineup.
They still sound good !!! They are better than not hearing The Grass Roots music at all
Tribute Band is all.
Midnight Confessions will always remind me of the girl in the yellow dress I took to their concert.
Are there any original members there?
No
This is not the Grass Roots and they are playing the songs too slow.Sure do miss Rob.
Yeah, I miss him too.
They still sound pretty good !!!
Is Creed there? (From the Office)?
Creed Batton hasn't played with the Grass Roots since 1969.
Any original members in that band????
Sadly, no.
So is the singer a original member?

Oh my gosh I would love it if the originals were all here.
That is justifying a fraud (IMO)
They do manage to reproduce the hit songs, that is what most of the people care about
Is that the original lead singer from the band?
No, that was Rob Grill and he passed away several years ago.
wheres creed bratton?
Where's Creed?
A good cover band.
This isn’t the grass roots there a tribute band ,if none are original then there a tribute band
Agreed. But a pretty damn good one. And much better than some I've heard.
That's a cover band sillys!!
not one original member in the G rass Roots how can they call themselves the Grass Roots. Fake band
