Great sound! Rob is fiiiine! I miss Warren Entner in this video. OMG, his voice! I can hear it so clearly on Live for Today, "One, two, three, four! Shah-la, la-la-la-la, live for today Shah-la, la-la-la-la, live for today And don't worry 'bout tomorrow, ay-ay-ay Shah-la, la-la-la-la live for today (live for today)" and on Midnight Confessions, "There's a little gold ring you wear on your hand Makes me understand There's another before me, you'll never be mine I'm wastin' my time!" Sooo good! In 1968, Warren Entner and drummer Rick Coonce were contestants on the game show The Dating Game. Entner remained with the band until 1973, leaving the Grass Roots after the Alotta Mileage album. He was involved on the production side of some of the group's later work on which he participated, and later he left to go into music management. It was an amicable parting and he and the remaining and newer members of the band stay friends to this day. I really love in this video how someone replaced Dennis Provisor on keyboards and Rob brought him up to sing the chorus in Midnight Confessions.❤ The members of this band were equally adept at blue-eyed soul, folk-rock, and bubblegum music, mixing the styles often. I laugh at Rob jokingly calling the band's engagements "The Geritol Tour" not long before his passing away due to complications from a fall at home. He was 67. I really miss this music. It was created in a time when things were so innocent. Family dinners still existed, with all members of the family expected at the table and Sunday was pot roast night. I was so blessed to have older siblings and friends who love this music as much as I do even from a young age. It was the bomb being a kid in the 60s, and a teenager in the 70s! Then in my twenties in the 80s! What a blessing! Some really great music came out of those decades.
C. Smith - I saw Rob at least a half dozen times from the 80's to the early 2000's and wow... I remember him calling his Grass Roots show 'The Geritol Tour' in the later years! Jelly of you, lol! I was born in 66, so I was little , but I'm autistic , my daddy was a musician, so we had music all the time, all different sorts, and though I have liked all genres since I was able to listen, dance, and finally sing, guitar pop rock bands are what I miss most. The last really good pop rock guitar bNd that I remember coming out wS Matchbox 20. There's been a few one hit orders since, but the pop and Spotify charts are, by and large, abysmal . I can recognize many Singers, guitarists, bassists, keyboard and plants, drummers, percussion, just bu their style, well, at least before Autotune. Geez, I played jazz in school, so I know a lot of the old big band and ja,z greats just by the tone of their instrument. That is my long winded was to say I love The Grass Roots, and bands like The Box Tops, Big Star, and numerous others I'm too high to think of now, lol! I've noticed a whole helluva lot of kids of all colors and cultures getting more into older music, and the only reason I can think of is they're bored what the corporations want them to hear. My kids like all kinds of music, so remember, us older folks, hope is not yet lost, lol! Expose your kids or grandkids to this kind of stuff, and other stuff you liked. Let them make the decision. It's a helluve lot more family friendly than whatever on Spotify, lol! Sorry for the novel, just thought the thought, "if you don't expose your loved ones to music that you like, you may never know if they might like it! ❤ God Bless, Allah Akbar, Blessed Be, and Namaste. ❤

Just imagine today's so called "artists" getting up on a stage without autotune, robot drum machines and just performing like these guys and all the other bands of that era? These people were sufficient musicians such that they sang on key and in harmony with one another with discernable melodic lines and on themes like love, breaking up/loneliness and the like rather than odes to their bitches, "ho's" and plans to gun down their enemies. Grass Roots weren't profound, just plain fun. How pop music has degenerated in the 50+ years I first sang along to my AM radio. Pop music of 2022 is entirely formulaic, scripted by computer programs. These guys weren't afraid to get on a stage and make a few mistakes with a truly live set. Nice to be reminded of when "artists" really were musicians.

@@maureenmcgovern6119 I bet you get that a lot! Grill, one fabulous musical group leader! Perfect musical rhythms, timed vocals, superb arrangements - building electric ENERGY - fabulous musical excitement!
Another super hard working band from back in the day!! The difference is this band has or had about 25 songs on the charts!! Write and play and perform to mostly written material from themselves!! A great band to listen to now an then for sure!!
In my world "Midnight Confession" is EPIC!!! Trivia Fsct; When they first released "Midnight Confession" 1968 the Grass Roots appeared live at the Rolling Hills Theatre located in Rolling Hills area of South Bay area, east of the Redondo/Hermosa Beach areas, and at the northern base of Palos Verdes. It was a huge event that packed the theatre that day. I was 8 yrs old and my Babysitter took one of my brothers and I there. It was super exciting, and they held this big dance contest divided up in age groups. When they called my age group to the front, my babysitter urged me on to go down and be part of the contest. So, we lined up each side of the band and they played Midnight Confession and danced my little 8 yr old heart out lol. I can remember feeling very self concious, yet I put forth alot of effort. I remember one of band members saying to another " look at her go!" Lol. I have no idea which band members they were at all. I cant remember now who was who, but he had a guitar in front of him. They really were performing, no lip sync 😊 I didnt win in my age category, a girl probably 10 yrs old did, and I was so disappointed 😂. How fortunate I am to have had that opportunity at such a young age.
I had the pleasure of introducing this band at a dive bar called the Paloma in Kandiyohi Minnesota back in the early 80s. Got to chat up Rob and the band a bit.....Rob was so gracious. So much fun. So many memories come flooding back every time I hear a GR song!
Love The Grass Roots...Rob Grill is so awesome, but the entire is band is fabulous!!! I have great memories of when their songs were popular in the 60's and 70's...even tho I was pretty young, they were some of the best times of my life...summer time and The Grass Roots on the radio...so cool...LOVE this band eternally...!!!!
Mairi Rose Its funny that you say you still have CDs of theirs. I still have the original albums!!! From a time when a "record player" was my favorite entertainment. And general admission concerts. Go anywhere in the stadium. Great memories.
Rib Grill was one of the most legendary RnR vocalist of all time. First heard them on the radio when I was in junior high school (69 now)…the song, Temptation Eyes and have been a fan of the Grass Roots ever since. Broke my heart when I read about Rob’s passing in 2011. I never was able to find out what kind of fall he suffered his head injury from. Everything I read just said “he died from a head injury after falling”. If you happen to know more please share. RTR
Three Dog Night still tours, though only vocalist Danny Hutton and guitarist Mike Allsup are left from the original band. Chuck was kicked out for drug usage (though he has since sobered up) and sadly, Corey Wells died a year or so ago. The current lineup includes a former member of the Association on vocals, as well as some talented musicians, and they deliver a vinyl-perfect show! I saw them a month ago, and enjoyed every minute of it.
It makes me cry thinking back then how innocent things were and my parents still alive happy times wow this new world is really fu-ked up love you all see you in the afterlife
The internet happened. Now innocence is gone. People watch wars in live living color. People said it would revolutionize the world...I think it changed things. Maybe I'm old lol
These guys sang out the ideals of loving men ❤. I think even then we had men walking among us with nefarious designs that weren’t as exposed as they are now. I love that a segment of mankind lived to sing out on the subject of love.
Always loved the Grass Roots. One of the first bands I heard when I started to listen to music. I was 11. Haven’t seen this mixture of band members. Warren was replaced but the new member sounded amazing. He was right on pitch.
@John Keckley That is Scott Black Hoyt, he was with the band in the late 70's. He has his own channel on YT, and visits here from time to time. if you scroll through this thread you will see where he's commented and replied to fans!
I got to see them in Cumberland, Maryland in 1971 when they had the quintet. I think that was when the group was at it's absolute strongest! Almost 30 years later in the early 2000's, my wife and I got to see them in Pittsburgh at an oldies concert sponsored by radio station 94.5 WWWS! Rob Grill hadn't lost a step and was still one super performer! His on stage humor was second to no one! We miss you Rob!
I'M PRETTY SURE I SAW THEM IN pittsburgh,pa then,Tommy James closed the show with Crimson And Clover with a full light show,I'm a big of both bands, great show

Barbara Mitchell me too songs like this never get old or bands like this I'm 52 but I will listen to this great music to my last day on Earth.. bless you always
God Bless you always too, Slick Mic. My most sincere condolences go out to you for the loss of your Mom. She knew great music and passed her love on to you, in more ways than one. Cherish the memories and I'll be listening to these songs right along with you...Forever xx
Barbara Mitchell thank you so very much for your very kind words God bless you always and I wish you nothing but happiness in 2019 it's hard to believe that it's 2019 almost already!!!
It's a travesty, that because of their body of work they are not in the hall of fame. Which, by the way, is a joke! However, the reason is... they were never really a "band". They were a money-making concept contrived by the music label. Other than Rob Grill, the entire "band" was a revolving door of studio and union musicians. In the history of The Grassroots there have been over 50 musicians that contributed to the success of the concept. Also, many songs were written by other people. If anything, because Rob Grill was the longest lasting member, lead singer and face of the band, He should be in the HOF without question. It will never happen because the HOF has nothing to do with fame, popularity or body of work. It's a business that has more to do about money and politics rather than music. Think I'm lying? Tell me why Ozzy, Bad Company, Boston, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Scorpions, Motley Crue, Dolly Parton, Warren Zevon, Motor Head, Iron Maiden, Connie Francis, Todd Rundgren, Snoop Dog, etc... Are not in the HOF?
Partied with the originals in Western Washington College in early spring of 1969 when they got into town early. Did a lot of PF Sloan's tunes early on.
If Rob and Dennis "partied hard" before this show, they sure don't show it. Maybe others can see it but I can't-- their performance sure doesn't suffer any. It's a great show, and the cute girls are everywhere! Dennis was a force to reckon with-- what a powerful voice and his songwriting was top-notch ("Walking Through The Country" & "I Can Turn Off The Rain" among many others). 1979, too vivid for me! First year out of high school, finding myself stationed overseas on high alert due to Iran's taking our embassy hostage, a short time later Russia invades Afghanistan, Olympics were cancelled, Carter re-starts military conscription-- yeah, my timing has never been anything to brag about (I recall thinking 'what in the hell have I gotten myself into?!'). As long as there were bright spots like this show, I can look back on this year and not coil in horror at the events that took place! Thanks, Chris, this is MUCH too cool!
I love watching Scott in this video. He loves what he's doing. Great voice! Gorgeous guy! He has it all! Keep singing Scott. You're very special. Stay safe in this coronavirus time.🎸🎶🎼🎵👍
Thank you so much for these wonderful songs! Even the little hiccups still lets you enjoy them! I was in the Army during the 70's. You should have seen all the guys that had a little transistor radios to try and get to listen to these guys among others during the Vietnam War. These guys are up there singing their hearts out nothing added or fake.
I saw them once great show. I believe it was around this time frame. They were touring hitting the local music venues around the country. Unfortunately bands can’t do this anymore. A lot of the music venues have become dance venues where they pay a dj to play electronica and overcharge for drinks.
From about 1977 to 1983 or so, both Magic Mountain & Disneyland had “Late Entry” tickets at either 5:00 pm or 6:00 pm as a teenager it was great, for $4.00 you could get into the park ride a few rides and at Magic Mountain watch a concert in the amphitheater or at Disney they had 4 nightclubs for teenagers with different music genres. Was an awesome time to be a teen in So Cal.
I have been listening to the 60s on 6 on Sirius XM. Over the 4th of July, they played the 200 greatest AMERICAN artist of the 60s. The Grass Roots came in at No. 22!! What a huge following for a fantastic group to come in 22 out of 200!! So many great hits! To be kept out of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is beyond crazy. And there are probably another 100 groups I could mention that are still kept out.Time for them to find a new REAL rock and roll museum for everyone to really enjoy. I won't go to Cleveland. They and Rolling Stone are a bunch of idiots!!
They're so underlooked in general that it doesn't surprise me. They're definitely deserving of being in the Hall. I mean they churned out so many great songs.
Partied with these guys summer 81.....Biloxi Mississippi I took my brother to see them for his 29th birthday at a small bar on the beach! A bunch of cool guys A USAF Veteran 🇺🇸 Rock ‘n Roll

In '72 when I was in the 7th grade there were TWO girls named Maureen McGovern in our jr. high-- every time we saw them we would sing "...it's got to be the morning after..." Nothing mean, it was all in fun. But what annoying little bastards we kids could be.
@@SkeltonKnaggsLives Hi Shane, Can you believe, I still get it. We even have another Maureen McGovern in our family. I thought it was funny! I also have a sister named Elizabeth.
@@maureenmcgovern6119 I swear this is true: I have a cousin named Andy (Griffith), and he has 2 dogs-- Barney & Goober. He hears about it all the time, too.
Rob Grill is so gorgeous... and oh that voice!❤️💕❤️
Yuuuummm. He sure was hunky. I totally adored him. I sobbed when he passed. Missing you, Rob.😢❤
I was teenager music like this was prevalent and ill never forget bands like this . Great musicians and awesome vocals.....Music and bands like the Grass Roots will live on long after I'm gone..... Great memories
Such awesome music. Meant a lot to us in the Army during Vietnam era. RIP Rob.
Served in 69/70 great music

I agree. We had a ton of great music back in the day.
Grill, one fabulous musical group leader! Perfect musical rhythms, timed vocals, superb arrangements - building electric ENERGY - fabulous musical excitement!
Wonderful music from the legendary Grass Roots, proud fan for over 50 years
My favorite group 60’’s 70’s
Love I heard these songs in the 60’s, loved them right away…RIP Rob Grill ♥️
This talented group and fine looking men AWESOME! Their music will live on!
Great group, awesome vocals from all. I'm 76 now but WOW! Where they ever hott!
Another super hard working band from back in the day!! The difference is this band has or had about 25 songs on the charts!! Write and play and perform to mostly written material from themselves!! A great band to listen to now an then for sure!!
Wow, what a great band. I remember our cheer leaders would dance to their music at our pep rallies. Great memories. I sure miss the 1970's...
Gorgeous! Fantastic memories for me. I was a young girl in LOVE with these guys and their music! 💖💖💖
I've died & gone to Heaven. Love all these old songs !!!
Me too you got great taste in music
There never will be another Rob !
Remembering him wow !
I loved Robb Grill. I was sorry to hear he passed. I did get to see him
I saw Rob in 1985 & 1986
In my world "Midnight Confession" is EPIC!!!
Trivia Fsct;
When they first released "Midnight Confession" 1968 the Grass Roots appeared live at the Rolling Hills Theatre located in Rolling Hills area of South Bay area, east of the Redondo/Hermosa Beach areas, and at the northern base of Palos Verdes.
Thanks for sharing that wonderful memory. Sounds like something they would do! Rob loved their fans... of all ages!
Rob Grill you will be forever loved and missed.Fly high with the angels!💓
I seen the Rob Grill Roots probably 5x after 1982 until 1998. Always fun to watch
@@floatsting20 I'm jealous! Never got the chance.
Never got the chance to see them
I saw them in the 70's. Talked with and danced with Rob💞. Oh ya, I'll never forget that night!
Such a beautiful talented kind-hearted and handsome man. No more pain for ya dude.In Gods arms may you rest😢❣️✌️
I had the pleasure of introducing this band at a dive bar called the Paloma in Kandiyohi Minnesota back in the early 80s. Got to chat up Rob and the band a bit.....Rob was so gracious. So much fun. So many memories come flooding back every time I hear a GR song!
Wow, The Grassroots, you guys are great. RIP Rob Gill.
WOW!!
Been married 50 yrs come June.
Remember making out to "Greatest Hits" on the living room floor.
Think it may be time for a re-do.
Best band ever, still have CD’s of theirs, Scott was fabulous with the group...wish Rob was still with us...thx for all the music
I agree, Number One.
Mairi Rose Its funny that you say you still have CDs of theirs. I still have the original albums!!! From a time when a "record player" was my favorite entertainment. And general admission concerts. Go anywhere in the stadium. Great memories.
Thank you, Mairi!
Yes Scott did great
Par Excellence!!! Bring back this music
R. I. P " The Legendary Rob Grill".

Thanx for the upload, the Grass Roots and 3 Dog Night were my treasures back in the early 70s. Sorely miss those times.
@Danny Hemphill Thanks for watching!
My favorite bands, as well!
Very Good. Better then the Crap we have on the Radio today
Even commercials were better back then.
Many memories ......growing up in the 60s and 70s was a dream!!
Saw the Grass Roots back in 1973 in Huntington WV at the Memorial Field House with my cousin, Vickie Marple. Good memories of younger years!💖
It makes me cry thinking back then how innocent things were and my parents still alive happy times wow this new world is really fu-ked up love you all see you in the afterlife
Don't do it! There's still good in the world... There are still things to look forward to and believe in
I feel the same way
The internet happened.
Bad stuff was still going on- most people were just more naive.
I just love Rob Grill. May he rest in peace. 💔
I love him too❤️
Rob Grill was so talented. Great voice and no matter who he sang with ~ he made it work! Gotta love him! ❤️❤️2020
Best songs ever! Best rock & roll songs! My favorite!!
I'M PRETTY SURE I SAW THEM IN pittsburgh,pa then,Tommy James closed the show with Crimson And Clover with a full light show,I'm a big of both bands, great show
I met Rob Grill in 2004 in Waukesha Wisconsin the Grassroots opened up for the Rascals it was a free concert put on by 95.7 FM got a chance to go with my mom these were her two favorite groups I lost my mom on March 4th 2018 thanks Mom for turning me on to all the great 60s and 70s music I miss you
Slick Mic Sorry for the loss of your mom. 😞 But welcome to the two most awesome decades of music!
I Agree Wholeheartedly The 60's and 70's Had THEE best music and I was only born in '59. No matter how young at the time I knew every word to these soulful popular songs. It's STILL my "Happy Place" to be...even if it's only on TH-cam !!
70s had the best music ever! So glad I grew up in this era.
One of my all-time fav 70's group. 70"S went by to fast ~ At least we have the memories ~
One of my favorite groups !! Thank you so much!!
Man Rob looked good here !
Love or Loving someone in life is the greatest thing that can ever happen. The relationship is best for Love and Peace and Happiness ❤️❤️❤️❤️🎵😊😊😊🎶🎶🎶
This was my first band that I actually bought a vinyl album. Still play it. LOVE Rob Grill rest in peace MA 💃🕺
Love this band grew up on this music
Why are the not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame they deserve to be👍
Just like their label mates Steppenwolf, seriously a joke they both aren't in but they don't need that place anyway!
@@johnharland2336 yes you are right their body of work I know those songs made my young life happier 🎼
Partied with the originals in Western Washington College in early spring of 1969 when they got into town early. Did a lot of PF Sloan's tunes early on.
Love the Grass Roots and Rob Grill is awesome theyare great
If Rob and Dennis "partied hard" before this show, they sure don't show it.
Stay safe in this coronavirus time.🎸🎶🎼🎵👍
Thank you for the kind words, Linda.
@Scott Hoyt did great
I agree
Agree
So many memories...
Wow. Love this group❤❤
Loving this handsome version of Rob. But love the bass playing Rob. He really has the best hair always.
Just plug into PA and go. I miss these days tho
Great guys met them in the 70s loved Wisconsin nice guys and they played in so many honky bars here bought as many albums as I could as a kid
Always loved their music. Rob looks like he doesn't know what to do with his hands since he isn't playing his guitar.
So sad that Rob Grill is gone !
What a great band!
Warren and Rob must have been every girl's dream I would imagine
So agree
Yes!!!!
Yessss indeed
From about 1977 to 1983 or so, both Magic Mountain & Disneyland had “Late Entry” tickets at either 5:00 pm or 6:00 pm as a teenager it was great, for $4.00 you could get into the park ride a few rides and at Magic Mountain watch a concert in the amphitheater or at Disney they had 4 nightclubs for teenagers with different music genres. Was an awesome time to be a teen in So Cal.
i would love to pick your brain
Love listening to them, but must admit I miss the original band with Warren..
One of my top three bands of all time.
🤔😉🥰
This is **Crazy Wrong*** that the **Grass Roots** are not in the **Music Hall Of Fame**!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤
Partied with these guys summer 81.....Biloxi Mississippi I took my brother to see them for his 29th birthday at a small bar on the beach! A bunch of cool guys
