- When you have to be fast, sometimes you can't have everything, including composition. In this video I'll teach you the ways I shoot without looking, and why you should too. Viewfinders are optional.

Hey hello you should definitely sign up to my emails! I will send you cool stuff for inspo, share cool photography, and you actually can email me back and ask questions! I am an open book. → email.huntercreatesthings.com/
I’ve been shooting street photography for about 7 years and I’ve missed so many shots because I’m a perfectionist and I shoot 100% manual and waste time making sure all my settings are right. This really inspired me to branch out and take more experimental risks with how I shoot. I will say, it’s a privilege to be able to shoot and not worry about if the shot was good. Seeing as film is so expensive and if you don’t have a lot of money, you might not want to waste shots. But I ordered an Olympus Pen FV on eBay tonight. An slr half frame should solve concerns about wasting shots
Half frame! Nice. Honestly, getting more loose with my settings and focussing on subject has been a gamechanger
Bro is soo underrated, he's got great humor and awesome tips! Thank you for the tips!
Thank you so much hahaha
I love the way you present all of that useful knowledge in very ADHD friendly way and cool sense of humour! Cudos for the spoon!
Thank you hahaha!
Photography is the ADHD urge of pointing at pretty shit except you get to keep the moment
I like the explanations! Thank you for another useful vid with tips 🙏🏼
My pleasure ☺️
I am just so surprised to find a new channel dedicated to good photography. Just watched your 'How Street Photographers are Invisible'.
You are gonna blow up soon, great video, great advice. Subscribed for future content hehe.
Thank you so much! That means so much to me
Hey, Hunter. I've just watched my 2nd video o' yours here, but I'm already hooked on your laid back & down-to-earth style - something which street photography is in such dire need, IMO, as most of its more, erm, 'influential' practitioners make it look like they're shitting nails while talking about it, so contrived their approach usually is. Subscribed both to this channel and yr e-mail list. Cheers!
That's awesome to hear! I'm really passionate about making photography more accessible and I honestly can't stand the stuffy fine art crowd. I feel like there's so much gatekeeping and a lack of a sense of humour in so much photo/video related content, so I'm stoked to hear that it comes across like that. Glad to have you on board!
Brilliant! Very helpful and encouraging, especially for a perfectionist and overthinker.
Glad it was helpful!
I love your pragmatic approach to photography and looking through your videos i see some convergent evolution between our techniques. Huge fan of the fuck around and see what happens to photography.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy
another way i do no-look shots is below my hip, where my camera is portrait, and by my side, and basically i angle it up and behind me or to my side. i started getting used to doing this on my sigma 18-250, and honestly it's worked pretty well for me. another way is just holding it behind my back and taking a random shot, rather interesting to see what i get. thanks for the new no-look ideas!
Nice! Sometimes no-looks can be pleasantly surprising haha. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for another great video Hunter. Keep them coming. Looking forward to seeing your channel grow
Thanks! Means a lot
Hey, I have a grandson who is profoundly left handed and struggles with a "normal" (D)SLR. Where can I buy a left handed camera like the one in your thumbnail?
In the video proper, around a minute in, you appear to have switched to a normal Pentax, so I assume you're ambidextrous... 🙂
Kidding aside, I've used some of those techniques myself, and zone focusing is a powerful technique for rapid-fire, opportunistic, shots when you don't have time to compose. I used to be continually adjusting my exposure (manual rangefinder, last century), checking the focus zone (older cameras had depth of field marks) as I wandered about and trusting to a bit of luck.
Hahaha I had to flip it for the thumbnail 😂 zone focus is a killer technique!
Love the new upload, keep up the good work! I'm a beginner, and you've helped me sm!! Tysm
❤️ thank you bro!!
I like it. Having coffee this morning a Vespa came by our table (Italy) and I barely got my camera out of the bag so I just shot. My expectations were low cause an x100 t is sloo-oow, but it totally worked!
Have to do what you can!
You are awesome! Thanks for fun
You are so welcome!
Helpful content, capably presented, amiable host w/o distracting hype. Nice. Just subscribed. Have tried shooting from the hip but have yet to master the proper angle. BTW, long ago I shot on Pentax film cams -Spotmatic, MX etc.) Use all digital currently. Cheers!
Thank you! Means a lot that you're enjoying. I love the Spotmatic, one of the first cameras I had.
hey hunter, i really like your content and i thing it would be even better if you could show us more of your photos in these kinds of videos, im really interested in them and the give a nice example of what you are saying
Hey! That's a great point hahaha - Look forward to more of my work in the next few!
came here for the spoon. subscribed for the spoon.
The hero we needed
Crowds for some reason I heard cows-😂-thinking why is dude photographing cows at a protest? Okay, I need coffee.
Ok but like I could make a whole video about cow photography tbh they're so much fun to take photos of
@@huntercreatesthings Cool. That’s something I would watch-maybe, make a photoshoot with them.
You are an incredible resource! i have a question though, how do you focus when not looking through the lens, autofocus or something? Edit: heyy, nevermind!
This guy gets it
you were in poland?
Tak, Mieszkam w Warszawie!
I think he said in previous videos he lives in Poland.
"…there is no spoon!" 😎
Call me the Oracle
@@huntercreatesthings Always wondered what happened to Spoon Boy!… Now we know! 😇
Are you polish? Greetings from Kraków.
No, I'm a Scottish New Zealander, but I recently moved to Warsaw ☺️
