Photographer and Filmmaker. Currently based out of Warsaw, he has lived in Auckland, Seoul, London, Jersey and briefly, in a remote village with an Alpaca and a Goat, neither of whom liked him very much.
Forever torn between form and function, Hunter works as a fine artist, a street photographer, a mentor, a TH-camr, a DP, an editor, and as a (rather insufferable) writer. He also likes racing cars, scope creep, and fashion.
He'd really like it if you got in touch, especially if you're a new photographer, an academic, or just want to chat. That way, he knows for sure someone is listening, and he can stop referring to himself in the third person.

Why You Need A Pocket Camera

One inch is plenty, as it turns out... → Join my free email community: email.huntercreatesthings.com/ 💌 Also! Follow me on instagram: huntercreatesthings In this video I share my tragic, unforgivable mistake of leaving my camera at home exactly once, and what I did to try to fix the problem. I discovered, shockingly, that the perfect pocket camera for me, for street photography, ...
...likes on Instagram. 😂
I remeber from copyright classes that publishing people’s image without their provable consent is illegal unless they are a public person or are not a main subject of the photo. How does street photographers get away with taking and posting pics of unaware people?
Enjoyed this video Hunter….I like the delivery and content. Not everyone is fortunate enough to live in a big city filled with neon lights and a 24 / hour buzz😂
To answer your question…yes! My hobby in retirement is photography however, aside from posting my photos on a couple of Facebook pages, I would like to try creating some video clips for, maybe TH-cam.
I really appreciate your "spoon microphone" as well as your sense of humour 🙂 Greetz from cloudy belgium.
Very helpful tips. I definitely have to try the Winguard. I’ve had polar opposite experiences. I once asked a woman if I could take her picture because she had such character. Her response was hell yeah, and then she gave me some “crystals”. They were rocks, but I just said thank you. But I was also recently yelled at by some woman for taking a picture of a homeless woman sleeping on a bench. She was covered in a blanket with sunflowers and had her stuff laid out in front of the bench. It was a powerful image, but for the best perspective I had to squat down. In that case it was hard not to be obvious. But I did drop a $5 in her bag as I moved on. Wonder what she thought when she woke up and found it. It was a great shot and totally worth being yelled at.
I think that, when we are growing as photographers, the least that matters is if its in focus or sometimes good composit. Its all about what make us feel. Grngy, dark, grainy. ❤
Does it help to use a 24-70 f2 lens on a 1 series body ?
Genuinely should try it - I've shot street with a D4S + 24+70 2.8 VR and it was no different to using a pocket cam
Bring on the cinematography content!
sometimes when i was a kid i could trick my parents consistently even though there are multiple opprotunities and i learned that people notice less things than they probab y should, srsly it works everytime
Just do YOU, and walk lightly!
50mm is gold! And big-ups on 10K bru!
Appreciate it!!
F Mount is great. OM mount is better.
idk chief Nikon compatibility is pretty elite
@@huntercreatesthings OM mount compatibility goes from 1972 to 2002. It supports the smallest lenses for SLRs, and arguably the sharpest of the big japanese manufacturers.
One thing I accidentally found that worked really well was to shoot with a camera that had been spray painted bright pink. It was a ridiculous looking camera, and not stealthy at all, but people thought it was cute, like I was walking a cute dog or something, and always wanted to stop and chat.
Maybe I will try street photography with the Barbie Cam
Thanks for answering my question! Now I'll play around with my old scans of colour rolls for the rest of the night
No problem! Hope you find the "wow factor"!
Why do so many people care so much about having a picture of them exist “without their consent”? Hundreds of people look at you every day, why would it matter if in some scrapbook somewhere there’s an image of you going about your life. Like, does it bother you conceptually for there to be a record of your existence? I’m not dismissing if you’re uncomfortable, because if you are you are and you can’t do anything about it, it just doesn’t make sense to me personally.
I think people misunderstand the sorts of photos that street photographers take and think that they're going to be singled out, scrutinised, and used for clout on instagram
i like your spoon microphone handle
Thank you very much
No, you can’t. Zone focus is a useful technique for using with a manual focus lens. Using zone focus with the required depth of field results in a combination of lower shutter speeds and higher iso’s compared to what you could get with a wider aperture and AF. Nothing beats a modern mirrorless AF system like Canon or Sony.
If you are zone focussed then focussing takes 0.00 seconds which is faster than Sony even if it's 0.01 seconds
I would so be interested in a series of you learning cinematography. I’ve been so hesitant to jump into the world of cinematography for a few years because my brain is so hard wired to stills frames.
Great to hear!
Good tips. But you took 2 minutes getting to the point...
Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
I shall continue failing a lot then :D Great insights and lots of stuff to think about! Great Video!
You can do it!
YES on cine series!
Yay
you should stick an inverted picture of yourself on the mic, using the beard as a beard. Just saying.
May look into this

Thank you :)
Would love to see you learn cinematography! Would help my own learning I’m sure!
Awesome!
100% yes to the cine series! Photographers always come at cine with a unique flavour and perspective, would be great to follow along with you.
Perfect!
Well deserved 10K milestone. Don’t let it go to your head. There’s a singing parrot channel that has more than 300k subs.😊 Can you do better than that? Cheers!
Hahaha we'll see about that parrot
I'd love love see you learning cinematography! I thought about trying it too (but eh shooting 1080p 50i wont be greatest) but I never got to it
1080p is better than 0p, still worth it!
Hahaha, although the "Winogrand" is a good technique, I literally don't have to pretend, using sunny 16 while zone focusing with my range finder, I'm constantly fumbling with my camera.
Nice hahaha
Hunter ive never seen any videos of yours before but you look like a photographer
Hahaha I can't escape the aesthetic at this point
Your video on adapting vintage lenses to digital was awesome and inspired me to get a digital camera! Similar to you I started with film so I already have a bunch of vintage lenses to use. Do you have a recommendation of a starter digital camera? I was curious which model you had in that video and whether it was mirrorless or not, and whether that matters at all. Thanks! Edit: After watching further you answered my initial question - D750, sweet. I would still be curious on whether a mirrorless or DSLR would be good for just starting digital, but the only lenses I currently have are vintage and my budget is minimal. I’m planning on just grabbing the cheapest thing I can find while thrifting or online.
Starting digital I think it's best to borrow/rent both a DSLR and a mirrorless camera to see what you prefer since it's quite a different shooting experience - but the DSLR is going to be legacy tech soon as most manufacturers are moving to just Mirrorless, so keep that in mind. A used Nikon Z6 is a great option!
Thx 👍🏾

hahaha Warsaw wins in other categories!
Nobody who walks around in public taking pictures of people while trying not to be seen taking pictures of people is normal. You're a stalker.
You should google street photography
@@huntercreatesthings you should google the state code in the district in which you take shots. You have a right to take pictures while you're out walking around in public, but not to harass or stalk people while you're doing it.
I think with question about sky is important to point diffrence with digital vs film. For film overexpose and for digital keep sky right exposure and bring shadows in post.
maybe - but sometimes even with digital I just let the highlights clip if it's causing me issues
Great to see your channel picking up. Congratulations on reaching another milestone!
Thank you so much!!
