Don't apologize for having a working farm. You treat the animals with respect and they really only have that 'one bad day'. People not knowing where food comes from isn't your problem to solve.

I agree. Not sure if it's a matter of people not knowing where food comes from, or not wanting to admit where it comes from. Either way, it is what it is and no one in their right mind can say that the animals on the Arms farm are not well taken care of for the time they are there.

Great explanation of your farm's goals. Folks just need to understand all animals are simply not raised to be pets. We raised rabbits for meat when I was a kid. My dad allowed each of us to retain one for each of us as a pet, but all the rest we butchered. He also had me help him butcher them so I had a clear understanding of where came our food. You are doing an awesome job on your farm!!! Also, I love your dogs.

@@sonsofgideon5112A sad fact is the farms that raise animals for meat. Some are terrible. Meaning, way too many cows, or goats packed in a small area. We I live, in central TN, many of the cattle farmers, have huge swaths of land. Let the cattle free range. We raise two cows and lots of goats. Some of the goats are for my family. One cow, we donate. We raise the cow, feed, Vet care, etc. And then when it's processed we give all the meat to a local church's. We do the same with a few goats for the church's too. We fortunate to be in a position to give some back to people in need. We use to donate to the city, but then discovered, some of the employees were getting the choice meats. So our arrangement with the city ended very quickly. Are Vets bills are next to nothing. Since my wife is a Veterinarian. Some of the goats and other animals, we have around just to have. We at times take in some horses that are retired or milking cows who no longer produce. So we let them live out their natural lives on our ranch.
We just took in a beautiful female horse who's jet black. She's adjusting quite well. And seems to have formed a bond with our Doberman (Abby). Just a joy to watch them together or when Abby run's beside Cleo (horse).

I get your point Herb. Some people only see and know of the end product, neatly packaged on the shelf. They don't know about the hours of labor, choice words at times, and number crunching farmers go through to make a tiny profit in some areas. Without farming, there would be no grocery stores. Daniel from day one has been pretty forthcoming about the fact that he raises and processes his own goats and beef. We did the same thing to sheep and beef at our farm and I love the fact that mine live in a palace compared to feedlots and are loved until their "final day". Their sacrifice is not taken lightly, but appreciated and prayed about in order to give my family life. Farming is truly the great circle of life. 🦁

Daniel, I was born 10 years after WWII. Cycling animals on a farm is understandable. A lot of people were not fortunate enough to live in the urban outer limit, near farms.

I understand both working farms and rescues and I'm one of those senior females you mentioned. You can encourage people who don't want to see particular animals sold for food to attend the auction and buy them for rescues. You need to profit to raise your family but rescues can't afford to buy every animal they see. I watch a channel where a rescue attends commercial horse auctions. They buy the ones they can, using donations, and the rest are sold for meat export. I pray for you to continue to use wisdom in deciding how to run your farm.
