They've had the issue with all three female Alpacas. It started after the trimmers came and used rope on their legs to keep them still. But no one thinks tat caused it.
When I saw the other alpacas surround the new baby, I couldn't help but think of the saying," it takes a village." You guys are blessed beyond measure with all those cute little ones running around. Congrats on the newest addition!

Well the vet who said Rufus was sterile needs to re-consider doing further study on how to tell if an animal is sterile because they couldnt have been more wrong. Glad Rufus proved vet wrong and now has sired two more babies, one more on the way (c'mon Dolly, prove the vet wrong for the 3rd time hehe). RIP Rufus, he was a doofus but much loved. He was quite the character and that was I loved about him.

I worked at 2 animal hospitals over 16 yrs experience. & doesn't sound like that vet who told you last time they weren't pregnant & were, then Rufus is Sterile & wasn't, & had they not told you he was Sterile he wouldn't have been castrated or brought to that horrible park to be killed.... just my opinion.... maybe that vet is newer & inexperienced, or just doesn't know what they are saying / doing.
Rufus sure is making sure you won't forget him - leaving some of his children around. He has blessed you with another one - hopefully, there will be a third. I hope she gets the strength to play with RJ. Stay safe & take care of you all. Thanks for sharing, eh :))

congrats on the addition to the herd. A little info for you. My daughter is a vet. During her schooling she spent a summer volunteering at a clinic in Peru. She tells me that even they can't tell sometimes if alpaca's is pregnant. Even an ultra sound isn't foolproof.
