There are many incredible moments throughout this game but one of my favorites is when the beat finally drops during the Jenova fight 😎 I am extremely biased whenever it comes to FFVII but watching your unfiltered reactions throughout Destiny's Crossroads really affected me. As always, thank you for being willing to put yourself out there and share this experience with us.
You are 100% correct about Hojo being the true villain, if not for him, Cloud would not be so messed up and Sephiroth would not be the monster he became. Not to mention all the other people he turned into monsters in the pursuit of "science". Also, hope you did another playthrough, got to see Aerith's ultimate dress and took the stairs at Shinra HQ. Also those three mini-bosses that you point out as nods to the weapons, also note that one uses swords, one uses guns and the last uses fists. You can also get Bahamut as a summon in the game but you have to finish all of Chadley's battle reports, then you get to fight for him in VR, just like Shiva and Fat Chocobo.
I've seen maybe 20 lets plays of this since its release, including my own. You're among the top 3 favorites, i can't wait to watch you play the next parts! I'll find you on twitch for sure
I think it’s truly understated what a great job they did with showing how damaged emotionally cloud is. 6:30 it’s so interesting watching someone who is very emotional react to Cloud. He represses so much inside himself he has lost his ability to show empathy. Instead of hugging her back right away he doesn’t know what to do but when he does hug her it’s exaggerated and he squeezes her to hard. “The hard edge” cloud puts on is just a coping mechanism cause you can see that mask he wears breaks every now and then. Great job by the way. I loved this play though.
I will never get over the fact that Sephy, whenever he does a big fire move he goes "Oh, the memories..." In general, it feels like they really set out to make you FEEL Sephiroth's psychological torment of Cloud when they made this game. Dude is always right around the corner with SOMETHING. Solely for the sake of satisfying this seeming obsession with tormenting Cloud, even from beyond the grave. It makes Sephiroth feel so much more... petty, sadistic, cruel, and spiteful, among other things. I love it.😂
Damn girl, I've played this game 8 times and I've probably watched 15 TH-cam playthroughs and it wasn't until you just sat there and blatantly pointed out that the three tiaras are Diamond, Ruby and Emerald that I realized the significance of them, and you noticed it on your very first playthrough lol.
Just to be clear (you seemed a bit confused after fighting Jenova) Sephiroth was never actually AT the Shinra building. Not in this game, and not in the original. In both cases the "Sephiroth" you see (or in the case of the original game, the sword in the back of the president) are nothing more than Jenova DNA that Sephiroth is controlling from the Northern Crater. In fact, in the original game, EVERY time you see Sephiroth before finding his body frozen in the crater is actually Jenova, and not actually him. But Sephiroth has absolute mastery over Jenova DNA (which is also what allows him to influence and semi-control cloud's body, as Cloud has Jenova cells in him as per his abduction 5 years ago) and since Jenova cells possess the ability to affect perception (as well as alter memories, which is what happens to Cloud's brain), he is able to give it a physical form resembling his own. In the original game, he used the dna of the actual jenova body that was in the shinra lab (which is how it breaks out and leaves a blood trail throughout the building, Sephiroth remotely controls it from the crater) and in the case of the remake he uses 2 of the failed clones who also all contain jenova dna. The first time ACTUAL Sephiroth shows up in THIS game is when he descends from the sky right before he slices open the portal to Destiny's Crossroads. Though admittedly even THAT sephiroth is not the one from this universe, as that one would still be in the crater, same as the original game (effectively verified by cloud's flashback to "killing" sephiroth in the reactor at Nibelheim, same as normal). Meaning this Sephiroth is from somewhere/somewhen else. Although, admittedly, so is Aerith. ;) (which is why they both clearly know what the future is "supposed" to be. The events of the original game have already happened, and this game is a sequel, not a re-telling) Also, for the record, no, those were not references to the 3 weapons, they were manifestations of Loz, Kadaj, and Yazoo from Advent Children, which is why one uses a sword (Red=Kadaj), one uses firearms (Yellow=Yazoo), and one fights with fists (Blue=Loz). The game hints at this if you scan them and read their descriptions. I know that was long but I hope it clears a few things up.

Those three "weapons" are actually the spirits of the three cloud fights in Advent children. They use the weapon of the three dudes in the movie. If you look up their names they are references.
I have never played FF7, either OG or this remake. My first experience of FF7 characters was either Kingdom Hearts 2, or Advent Children. I can't remember which I had first. But it was all the way back when I was in high school, 14 years ago.

(Edit: I somehow forgot about the best grittiest Zelda game, Majora's Mask, which literally IS the sequel/expansion to Ocarina of Time) Have you considered Twilight Princess or Windwaker for that next? Even though Windwaker came first, I'd think you'd be interested in Twilight Princess as a sequel to the timeline of Ocarina of Time, and fulfills all your interests in a grittier storytelling/world. I really hope you manage to publish full episodes of your experiences with this, the pureness of it is a type of genuine you really don't get to see so much as have for yourself and then it'll never hit you the same again, and for that the content is absolutely amazing to watch. This game was phenomenal in every single aspect. It took all of my fears and trepidation about how they could really mess it up and just shit on them lol Andrea was such a frickin AMAZING character. I REALLY hope we get more like him. He was just such a positive addition to the game. I won't even touch on Madam M... I feel like she would be my bestie irl lol Then there's Johnny... omg, he was hilariously awful. They really, really went far above and beyond with this game. I'm still reeling from the fact this remake series is only going to be three games long, but after what they did with this first part I am not concerned. If you have a ps5 or a really good pc you need to try intergrade. It expands on this and does an absolutely amazing job at it. It fills out Yuffie beautifully and introduces another badass character in Sonon. Just don't talk to me about that damn mini game it added... I was addicted to it so bad I had to stop and actually force myself to continue the story.
I fully believe Sephiroth is trying to manipulate Cloud into being willing to give his life to save Aerith. It's possible that this Sephiroth is aware that without Cloud, for some reason he can't be stopped, but he otherwise needs to "stick to the script" of the original FF7 as much as possible, because he came very, VERY close to winning. Aerith, as well, seems to be aware of the events of the original FF7, at least partially, and her garden scene feels like she's trying to convince Cloud that she's okay with her eventual death because if he sacrifices himself, all may be lost. Zack also seems to have 'slipped' through time; in the timeline this Zack is from, I imagine he lives while Cloud dies instead. As a result, Cloud and Zack will be caught in a situation where their existence in the timeline is mutually exclusive; one of them HAS to die for the other to survive. This could even result in some Cloud vs Zack battles in Part 2, possibly even having Zack attack the party early and make off with the Buster Sword, leaving Cloud to, over the course of the game, create and modify the Fusion Sword and use it instead. All in all, I am hyped beyond belief for Part 2.
