Nik knowledge when other subgenre than metalcore:
@painusinuranus3689 I know your lil stubborn poser elitist ass can't handle truth, but yes, *metal*core is in fact, metal. Yes it comes from hardcore punk, guess what, metal comes from blues, does that matter jack shit when determining what genre another genre belongs to?? no. You listen to the music, dip. Metal is a riff focused genre, do we have the metal riffs? absolutely. Do we have the complex drum patterns? Absolutely. Do we have the screaming techniques? Absolutely. At this point it's literally only hilarious watching elitists even trying to mental gymnastics their way through the idea of metalcore not being metal, when realistically you just can't exclude it with any definition, without also excluding iconic less heavy subgenres like power metal or traditional metal.
@painusinuranus3689 yeah, that pretty much explains his arrogance
I was shocked he didn’t know about Death Doom & Drone…
Nik is a metalcore-head, not a metalhead
@painusinuranus3689 By who's authority is it not a sub-genre of Metal? Or do you say you prefer to say it's a sub-genre of Punk? Technically speaking it's both - a sub-genre of Metal and a sub-genre of Punk.
The fact that Nik knows like no metal sub genres but every metalcore/deathcore sub-sub genre is very on brand 😂
caz its not really metal but its own subculture
@@Jesus-fz5ks I'd call it metal but yeah there is a reason core was shit on 24/7 back in the mid 00's and had a huge separation from its fans and all other metal. It is its own thing especially the fan base is usually not crossing over as much back then.
Until modern popcore became popular partially due to ARCHERS and BMTH
"Im NoT a BiG dEaTh FaN" I'm glad Nik is comfortable enough to come out to us as a Taylor Swift fan.
Nik, Cannibal Corpse is never and will never be better than Death. L take.
I love Nik. he's great and everybody is entitled to their own opinion
But that opinion is wrong😂
@Metal_Screamer I'd say Death are a better band, but Cannibal Corpse encapsulate death metal better, if it makes sense. Death are the OG (arguably) but by today's standards they'd be classified as prog death, probably.
@@guillaumelagueyte1019 I like me some Cannibal Corpse, but I respectfully disagree with you. Cannibal Corpse took notes from Death because Death was the first real death metal band (fuck off Possessed fans). And I think that Deaths first 3 albums are great representations of “death metal” in the way people think of it.
When people said that - id be like “ then go listen to hanna Montana 😂”
OK, so I guess Nik really only knows deathcore and metalcore

@@naantjez what? 💀
@@naantjez by not knowing genres … it is hard to watch.
You dont know Crossover Thrash? The crossover is between the hardcore punk of the 80s and the thrash metal of the 80s (mostly). It's the progenitor of metalcore ffs, as well as various other fusions of punk subgenres & metal subgenres. Defined by, well, Suicidal Tendencies, but a ton of hardcore bands meet (or at some point have met) the criteria, and a whole scene arose from it, Agnostic Front & the Cro-Mags, the Exploited, DRI, or Corrosion of Conformity, Municipal Waste, and Stormtroopers of Death. This eventually more or less led to proto-metalcore hardcore (now often referred to simply as "metalcore"), like Hatebreed & Earth Crisis, or Rorscach, Botch & Converge.
When I was a kid we just called all those bands "hardcore" and punk was just like, non-metallic punk: crust punk, Oi, skate punk, or pop-punk & ska-punk, and nobody ever said "hardcore punk." Then in my 20s metalcore became the big crossover of the styles and retroactively the term for the rest of those bands unless they fit into the crossover umbrella.
I feel like either he is a poser and doesn't really know metal or trolling. Though he can literally don't know all this stuff as he mostly listens to metalcore and claims to be a metalcore fan not a metal fan.
Well, I probably not the biggest metal fan but I at least know the subgenres and what they are sound like.

I'm a massive death metal fan and I'd pick CC over Death any day. "Kill" is one of my favourite albums of all time. Sabaton is not War Metal, they are Power Metal. War Metal is bands like Conqueror, Antichrist Siege Machine, Revenge, etc.-- Blasphemy was the right choice there lol.
Cattle Decapitation is Deathgrind, Carcass is also 1st wave Deathgrind (or just straight up Grind without the Core), Goregrind would be bands like Lymphatic Phlegm, Last Days of Humanity, etc..
Some of the listed bands are not in the right categories lmao. They could've picked any number of bands for the Stoner Doom that weren't Sabbath, like Sleep, Bongzilla, etc..
Wydm Carcass literally started goregrind. Deathgrind is stuff like Terrorizer, Repulsion, and Insect Warfare.
@@digitalmortality2001 Kind of, the paradigm shift to the pitch shifted/ distorted otherwise vocals for goregrind kinda folds them into being a crossover of deathgrind and goregrind, they didn't stick to the themes either.

Half of the death metal bands were inspired by death, Chuck Schuldiner’s music knowledge is unmatched
Why metalheads always think that the FIRST band in a genre was the best? It doesnt work like that usualy. Things get better with time. Its like saying the first car was the best😅. I love Death tho.

Industrial metal was done dirty. Nine inch nails, stabbing westward, psychlon nine and skold and mm
Agreed. There’s a long list of bands I’d take above Ministry. They aren’t bad, exactly, but the best? That’s pushing it.
Ministry is an extremely safe choice and has included as members or worked with many of the seminal voices in the genre. Nine Inch Nails made like one and a half industrial metal albums and a handful of songs but are largely industrial rock; one of my favorite musical projects but not really an industrial "metal" act. Stabbing Westward is fine but even they would probably say Ministry is a more defining industrial metal band. The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste, The Land of Rape & Honey & Psalm 69 effectively defined the genre and Ministry is still making straight-up industrial metal today, having just released a new album this month on Nuclear Blast. The only other bands really up for contention at the top of that genre would be like, Godflesh, **perhaps** KMFDM, maybe Rammstein now.

Death started death metal alongside Possessed, that´s probably why they chose them, later in start of 90´s they became more technical death metal. "Technical death metal's Big Four" late 80´s and early 90´s were - Death, Pestilence, Atheist, and Cynic.
Amon Amarth is melodic death metal with viking theme, they said themselves. Would say that bands like Einherjer, Falkenbach etc. is viking metal. But I know, hardly anyone knows these bands. Would have picked Darkthrone or Mayhem for black metal, Emperor more symphonic black metal.
What I don't really get...
It's called "best" bands of the genre. For modern tech death (looking at you, Archspire) Death barely passes as warmup
@painusinuranus3689 Okay. You are entitled to your opinion.
Thank you Nik, I agree 100%. 8:31 Epica is the best choice for symphonic ❤
I feel dimmu are that
I just had to make sure Type-O-Negative was on here.
It's funny bc the are not goth metal band.
bro said sabaton is war metal 💀
crossover thrash is definitely a very real genre, but i think its used more in HxC spaces. Its hardcore punk combined with thrash metal
Fuck this is the earlist ive been to a nik video
> calls himself a metalhead
> never heard about half of n00b subgenres
Can we finally FF to selecting the best 2nd wave gnome music / marshmallow black?
Nik, you really are a perfect representation for zoomer "metalheads." Congrats.
inferi are so underrated atm.... they are just crushing this genre! (and me and my band do play some techdeath as well..)
