    I wish I would have seen this video a week ago. I ignored the nail bubbles behind the paint on the drywall seams. Now the wall is light blue and still has the bubbles. Maybe I will move the desk and do the job over again. Thanks for the EZ fix. Don

      Did it bubble through primer after u primed?

  • @richiefinn
    @richiefinn 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Primers and filler are designed to cure at their own speed.
    Forcing this process could lead to cracking of the filler, and hot
    air gun will lift the surrounding area of paint which you will not see. When rollering
    The unseen lifted paint will peel of with the suction
    And you will be in a worse mess.patience is
    your friend.

      Yes I can agree with you! Do you own a heat gun?

  • @mothersson2002
    @mothersson2002 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    When you say to do 2 coats of primer do you mean to wait however long the can says before adding another, should the heat gun be used in between the 2 coats because there wasn't a dry instruction in-between those 2 coats.

    • @RussOlinatzPaintShow
      @RussOlinatzPaintShow  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you don’t know how to use a heat gun, just wait the amount of time that’s on the can!

  • @javaldes7
    @javaldes7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Russ. Why do these bubbles happen? Is there anyway to prevent them? I primed and waited 24 hours before paint. Waited about 2 hours between 1st and second coat. They only came out after 2nd coat.

    May sound dumb, but what is the 'mud' mentioned? Not heard that term in UK, is it just filler?

  • @yabonjin
    @yabonjin ปีที่แล้ว

    why do you apply primer before drywall? Never heard of that. How do you get the primer and paint to match so well? It always shows when I am done that the repair looks a little different.

    • @RussOlinatzPaintShow
      @RussOlinatzPaintShow  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Craig
      Thanks for your questions! I apply a water based glue primer to seal the problem area and lock down the problem surface. This seals the surface so that the water in the joint compound won’t react to what ever is causing the bubbling. I get the primer and paint to match well by wet sanding to take away the larger smooth area caused by skimming 2-3 times. This allows the old texture to still show through on the area surrounding the indentation. By priming twice, this effectively builds up the surface or texture to match the surrounding texture and seals in the repair so that it doesn’t Flash through especially when using a eggshell top coat!

    Russ, great video. How do you blend the primer/painting and keep the drywall patch (large or small) from being "shiny/smooth" when you put on the final paint? I can always see patch spots from drywall repairs or nail holes. Trying to get the "professional" look ;)! Thanks!!

    • @RussOlinatzPaintShow
      @RussOlinatzPaintShow  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi
      Your problem is a shiny one? Most people have a Duller sheen problem. Meaning the patch area sheen is less than surrounding area.
      Russ

      Probably because you know they're there so they stand out more, make sure the paint matches and overtime paint does fade a bit but because you're putting on fresh paint it's going to look more clean/shiny.

      Use a quick setting mud like a 90 or 45 vs all purpose or standard air drying mud. This will prevent the flashing.

      @anodtothevoid how does a setting mud prevent flashing?

    • @anodtothevoid
      @anodtothevoid 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't know the reason why but it works. You can see a more detailed approach of the same via the YT video "DIY Drywall Part 5 | How To Sand And Prime For Perfect Walls" at around 2:50 mark. He's done his first coat of paint and then noticed he still needed to patch. He hit's the area with 45min hot mud, then light dusting of primer and a light dusting of top coat. After that, you can do your final coat. I've used it myself in the past few years on my renos and it's saved me from repainting an entire wall.

    Why not scrape it off, apply small amount of water on a lint free cloth, wait to dry and paint it again? Why all that extra %hit?

      Usually when it bubbles there is an oily substance on the foundation. The primer will help to seal that in.
