    The purpose of this video is not to substitute the classic weight training (squat, deadlift, ..). If you are looking for a safe and effective training in terms of hypertrophy and basic strength, classic barbell squats and deadlifts are definitely better! But the concept of this video is different: the purpose is try to express as much strength as possible, even very specific, using only body levers, as well as the calisthenics for the upper body. This can entail having to perform very unnatural positions and moves.. (think about the hefesto/ironcross/maltese.., they're dangerous moves and you need not only biceps power but also strong tendons and ligaments; for sure train biceps with barbell curl is safer and the hypertrophic gains are maybe bigger..) but calisthenics goals are different.. so it can involve having to push the body to extreme moves and it can be dangerous without specific preparation.
    So it's not necessary to repeat "squat and deadlifts are better" because this is a different way to training with different goals and a different approach.

      I see several problems with exercises as extreme as these, though:
      1) My knees hurt just watching. The knee joint isn't made to handle a lot of these types of stress. No natural movement will put as much shearing force on the knee joint as one of those extreme hamstring curl variations, not even if you're carrying twice your bodyweight on your back. Yes you can say the same thing for planches and front levers , however the shoulder joint is a joint with 5 degrees of freedom , much more complex mechanics with 8 muscles to control only the 3 rotations so it is much more suited to handle stress from different directions.
      2) Upper body strength is useful in moves that just look amazing but it also crosses over to functional movements of the human body such as gripping stuff, climbing, lifting things, drawing a bow, etc. Levering your whole body with one hamstring might look impressive but you can't really do the move unless you strap yourself in. And having that extreme hamstring strength doesn't crossover to much functional movements of the legs which would include running fast, jumping high and lifting/carrying heavy stuff. Lifting/carrying stuff is a very common natural movement that you can't really train with bodyweight alone, by definition. You can perform exercises such as these, but the way I see it, anything beyond a pistol squat is just isolation exercises and will mostly serve to build size and make you perform better at the exercise itself but not really crossover a lot to the functional movements.

  • @restorehealthclinic
    @restorehealthclinic 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    As a sports chiropractor, these exercises all have potential to be performed injury free like any other leg exercise. Some of them are very demanding in that they require a lot of strength to be generated with the muscle at maximally lengthened and shortened positions, but adequately paced progressive build up through progressions like these will prepare your muscles and tendons well to cope with this kind of stress.
    I regularly see people with back, hip, and knee issues related to typical squat and deadlift variations that bring in a whole other range of issues due to the introduction of far more compressive load than you'll get with any bodyweight exercises, with most lifters using far less than ideal form until they've been lifting for years, if they ever get there at all. Adequate preparation and form are pre-requisites for every exercise, and I don't see these calisthenics options as posing more overall injury risk than average gym exercises.

    You did all the hard work for me, now I don't have to spend a lot of time in my workout trying to invent new calisthenic leg exercises. This is very innovative.
    Concerning the natural leg curl 6:48, if you do it with a perfectly straight body (that is, you force your posture, your pelvis, to a posterior tilt), it is more difficult. (although i don't know if that is possible, I certainly cannot go past a few degrees).

      @StefanoRavarinoCalisthenics  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      rap lopez thanks! I don't think ppt is necessary for perform a clean nlc.. my goal is to reach it.. but it's just matter of go lower with hips (till they touch floor) and not with shoulders only (always with apt, I think it's more natural move and not forced)

    • @raplopez4258
      @raplopez4258 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, you already have it pretty clean anyways. Best of luck achieving those harder exercises. By the way, an interesting aspect of leg training is in martial arts:
      th-cam.com/video/ay2pTJGxtlU/w-d-xo.html
      Anyways, congratulations on how much you've progressed. Just keep it up!

    Man this is amazing. I thought I've beaten quad training with calisthenics since I can do 20+ reps of pistol squats, sissy squats and natural leg extension and I thought there is nothing harder than that for quads. Then this video comes along. Thanks a lot, you've inspired me to pursue the harder moves instead of adding weight to the basic ones.

    Great video man! Super freakin' impressive. Would it be possible to make other videos each involving either push, pull, and abs/"core" exercise progression? These kind of videos also make for a really cool catalog of calisthenic exercises.

    Your hardwork and your video is seriously amazing, you are beast and one last thing I advise you to change your thumbanial, because most of the people not think that how hard this variation is (i am one of them who do not click your video but it comes in my suggested videos and when i watch this video i literally become your fan) , the thumbnail look like funny little bit, you add 3 to 4 variation in your thumbnail by editing. I hope you understand. I am becoming your subscriber, fan, and salute to your hard work. 💪👊👍👏

      oh wow thanks so much! the most useful comment I received here.. I wanted to add 3/4 elements in a collage picture but then I thought that maybe in would be too little for a thumbanial for being visible; I thounght this was more direct and strange for attracting people's curiosity (but if you see my channel you will see that I did it for other videos). btw I think I will follow you suggest and change the thumbnial with a little collage of max 3 pics.. thanks again for your support and tips

    Nice dude! I love seeing people doing calisthenics leg skills. I’ve been training that one leg sissy squat, I’ve never seen someone do it unassisted. 2 you forgot, limbo squat and buccal paper pickup. Keep on training!

    • @joshuabutkevicius6855
      @joshuabutkevicius6855 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dragon pistol squats too, but you need good mobility to do them.

    • @StefanoRavarinoCalisthenics
      @StefanoRavarinoCalisthenics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      dude! I remember your limbo squat! I will mention it with link on description (I also tried it but I think ankles mobility is necessary).. wich is the last? 🤤

    • @StefanoRavarinoCalisthenics
      @StefanoRavarinoCalisthenics  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes extactly.. need a lot mobility and is like pistol for strenght.. I will write these and other that I didn't insert in description ( I didn't insert dragon and limbo for choise)

      Hey Joshua, I've seen your oldest video about leg skills, you are a beast. I've tried a partial unassisted sissy squat here: th-cam.com/video/OP4xeTTPeQ8/w-d-xo.html , do you know someone capable of more range of motion or have you done it yourself? I'd like to see your form too,

    • @joshuabutkevicius6855
      @joshuabutkevicius6855 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the support, you're awesome and a beast! The buccal pickup is like a shrimp squat, but you bend forward and pick up a folded piece of paper with your mouth.

    The quad blaster one is fucking brilliant. Using a dip belt instead of a reverse leg extension machine is genius.

    • @MassimoKokhno
      @MassimoKokhno 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A ring strap or ratchet strap with some folded shirts or towels as padding also works well, at least for the two leg version, for one leg the dip belt gives more support and I think it's better.
