    "Is it disposable?" It's a BMW, they're all disposable. I planned to own my 2012 X1 for ten years. After 6 years and 150k the repair costs became insane. Timing chain guide guides, bearings deep inside the engine, exhaust manifold, catalytic converter, and I'm going to skip over all the other $1,000 visits to the dealer that weren't covered under warranty. The real question with BEV from BMW is did they use the same cost cutting and planned obsolescence thinking that goes into their ICE cars? If so they're all going to be garbage in 5 years.

    • @dontarguewithidiots7459
      @dontarguewithidiots7459 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup, they did. Same as Mercedes. The (mostly) higher income customers who buy these new flip them over after a couple of years anyway. IMO If you want to buy-and-hold, get a Lexus. That's what we did for my wife.

    • @matthewbowen5841
      @matthewbowen5841 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      BEVs are the Great Equalizer. Cars made 20+ years ago are still everywhere. Not good for business. Just so happens battery electrics are the future, and, whoops!, they can't realistically last past about 8 years due to the battery. Guess that's the new lifespan of a vehicle. Which, to be fair, is about 2 years past the expiration date of most BMWs made since 2005, but for everyone else will mean reducing the lifespan a car is engineered for. And selling replacements at a higher rate. How 'bout that.

      In ways that impact the driving/riding experience certainly. But in terms of operating efficiency, software/firmware, and design for manufacturability, and supply chain management, Tesla is still many years ahead of all the legacy manufacturers.

      E.Bowers wishes to expand its participation in the automotive original equipment manufacturer market (the “OEM Market”).
      1. Bowers will license the Bowers Technology and the Bowers Marks to Harman for use in the OEM Market;
      2.Harman will be responsible for designing, manufacturing, marketing and selling audio and infotainment systems bearing the Bowers Marks in the OEM Market; and

    People complain about the looks and the soullessness of this car, but to me it is one of the best examples of designing to requirements I see in the market right now. If I were in the class of people who have drivers on retainer and was in the market for a car this would definitely be on my list.

    • @Dowlphin

      General shape language wise, it's actually relatively tasteful. The headlight slits is a common issue with modern cars, but even the front design is handled acceptably. There is nothing about the visual design that outright disgusts me.

    • @baronvonjo1929
      @baronvonjo1929 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't like the deisgn. But it certainly doesn't look soulless. I don't understand such arguments. I honestly can't tell the difference between many a car before the 90s. You see one cheap economy car you saw them all.

    • @MLHunt
      @MLHunt ปีที่แล้ว

      @@baronvonjo1929 The 'soulless' complaint is more typically directed at the car's driving dynamics, the lack of feedback from the suspension and steering etc. I don't think that's a fair complaint about this car given its purpose, though I do understand it when people aim it at BMW's more driver-focused cars (though I don't necessarily agree there either).

    Important point about the 'official' stance that rich customers want to show they are rich, to distinguish themselves. This psychology is at the root of much of our plight. I remember how a goverment, I think it was Ecuador or such, failed because they pissed off the rich elite by making them mingle with regular people, on one level. They were so outraged at having their primary identify sabotaged like that, the offensive experience of not being exquisitly special superhumans, that they sabotaged the government.
