    I also use a soft to medium bristled tooth brush for more stubborn gunk on boards. Rarely do I use a Q-Tip on the board surface, mainly because they get torn apart. And yes... deep cleaning, doesn't get you anything for reselling. The average person doesn't care, and the amount your have to charge for the time it take, nobody is going to be willing to pay. You can even open yourself up to issue. I had opened a Wii the other week and the plastics inside had become brittle. They were fine, right up until I started to unscrew them, and things started shattering. I have to spend A LOT of time using JB Weld plastic bonder to put them back together since I couldn't find replacements. I think people underestimate how involved this kind of work really is.

    I'm glad you touched on the cost/reward analysis for cleaning and then reselling consoles. I found I only want to deep clean stuff I plan to keep for myself these days

    I recently gave life back to my older brother's childhood Gameboy advance and I felt so proud of being able to fix it since im not really a tech savvy person but now that it's fixed, my brother had been playing Pokémon ruby on it again and emerald from our childhood. I also fixed my childhood Gameboy color too a while back and also really proud of being able to fix it.

    I like cleaning up my consoles as well and am learning alot from your videos. The makeup brushes and the synthetic brushes for car detailing are great ideas and I will look into this for my own cleaning.
    While I agree that doing several hours of deep cleaning on all consoles wouldn't be very profitable for larger companies who resell consoles; I really don't think they should sell their consoles as refurbished and charge premium prices when they aren't doing what they say they do.
    Anyways, love your content and Steve's as well over on his channel. 🙂Cheers!

    Thanks for the video! I got out my old controller and some weird orange gunk was smeared on the joystick, I followed along and cleaned it :) Much easier than taking apart my switch controller was, I am so glad the joysticks just pop off like that and the complex bits are separate so I could get that gunk off without worrying about wiping the gunk into the interior.

    I realize I am 10 months late but the R and L switches you mention at the 5th minute that you weren't sure what they are called would be potentiometers. It is basically an adjustable voltage divider that contains a variable resistor for detecting varying levels of a button press

    For those button holes, you could try a small baby bottle brush. Those may help with getting into them for a good cleaning

    I think it is a good idea to use that device to hold boards, buuut be careful not to damage the boards. Try to support the other side as well, or at least out something there to hold it at the same level.

    I love that you're finding reusable tools like makeup brushes! Cleaning creates a lot of waste. To create a stiffer brush that might replace your q-tip try cutting down a smaller brush to where the bristles get tighter in the handle. These are cheap enough you can customize them to fit the spaces you need. Don't leave them soaking in water and store them upright and they should last awhile. E.l.f. is pretty cheap and good enough quality for what you need. The dollar store is even cheaper!

    Hi have you ever thought about using an ultrasonic cleaner to degunk parts and plastics ( use a low temperature) it will rock your world and clean where you can’t. Get a pretty big one. And practice with it on Junked stuff. Good luck.
    Also try using cosmetic q-tips. They are woven not spun, they last longer and generally have a pointed tip and a cylindrical tip.

    Make-up brushes are a good idea, but I wonder how natural bristle brushes will do after a longer time after using IPA. I consider trying synthetic brushes made for car detailing and also car detailing products.

    • @Kahli21
      @Kahli21 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Most cheap makeup brushes are made with synthetic bristles. Natural bristles are much more expensive, generally you aren't going to pay less than maybe $10 per brush at least, for the smallest ones.

    Don't defend the scummy companies that do shoddy refurbishments, there are successful businesses that go way above and beyond the refurbishment process. One of which is local to my town and has grown a lot in the last year. They deep clean and repair all consoles and they offer warranties for them.

    i use a sponge to clean the shells. the scrub daddy one works fine. not the harder green side of the sponge becuase it might scratch it. i guess a brush would work, but i wouldnt use it for the shell. 10:50
    there has got to be a way to clean inside the button wells. gunk gets in there and idk how to clean that. toothbrush is too big. some kind of spinning brush on a dremil?
    is there a difference between 70% alcohol and contact cleaner for the slider triggers at 5:00 ? sometimes i just dunk the whole pcb in water and scrub it if its covered in cigarete smoke grease, then hair dry it, then use 70% ipa in the ports and smd electronic parts so they dont rust. it displaces/dries the water too.

    • @jkl970

    While I think it's a fair assessment to say that deep cleaning consoles to resell them isn't a sustainable business model (the value to the consumer is far lower that the time spent doing it), I don't see that as a justification for dishonesty.
    "Actually doing the things we claim we are doing would be too expensive, so let's just lie about it instead" doesn't sit well with me. If it's not sustainable to do proper deep cleaning and refurbishing then they should simply limit themselves to what _is_ actually sustainable and only advertise as such.
    I get that you weren't really trying to put forward an actual defence of those companies or their practices, I just think it's worth mentioning since the topic was brought up.

    Great video but game cube is the worst console ever made. Xbox has by far the best controllers ever made they just keep getting better

    • @arstulex
      @arstulex 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is a reason why the Gamecube controller is still widely used and sought after to this day, despite no longer being in production (officially).
      The Gamecube controller has long outlasted literally every other controller from its generation.
