Gundam story wasn't confusing but it's overwhelming with that many Gundam animes to watch, with art style all over the place and over 40 years of anime progression. Good luck and enjoy.
Bobby Hill old animes are original, which makes them unique from other animes. 1 they have ideas that newer ones havent tried. 2 the plots arent as predictable as the new ones

In my opinion, Iron Blooded Orphans could've got the most realistic development of Gundam as a Mecha, since the Beam sabers trully questions me from the Universal Century but all the gundam series itself were awesome.

Gundam might not have the most powerful or the biggest Mechs in Anime hit definitely has more lore then any other Mecha Anime series Just take your pick G, Wing, Zeta, double Zeta, Seed, Seed Destiny, Iron Blooded Orphans, 00, Unicorn, War in the Pocket, the 8th team, Age, Build Fighters, Build Fighters Try, Turn A, Crossbones (even though it hasn't been animated yet), X, and Thunderbolt there's just so much lore that if you don't like one there's most likely another that you will
I still think Gurren Lagaan is a greatly executed story, but I feel like the mechs are too goofy. I just recently enjoyed Code Geass, too- but as soon as the mechs learn to fly the battles lose sooo much weight/catharsis. All of the mechs in Akito the Exiled are excellent. I might even get my first kit...

In all honesty, Gunbuster should be higher on the list. Without Gunbuster, there's no guarantee that Gainax could of produced Eva and it's longevity would of lead to Gurren Lagann.

Neo Granzon can destroy a galaxy in one shot, the Astranagant can wipe things out of existence by erasing their time, SRX's HTB-Cannon can blow up the sun, _several_ mecha either shoot gravity beams or condensed black holes, Granteed contains the soul of a god...
Before watching... why do I have a feeling I'll be disappointed in this list. After watching... wow watch mojo I'm shocked! I was expecting that overrated Evangelion to be #1, but you actually gave it to Gundam! I would of had Full Meter Panic in the top 10 though... so good!

I choose to believe these sorts of shows aren't on lists like this because they've been so integrated into mecha (and anime as a whole) that they come of as derivative and cliche despite being the ones that set the standard. BIG O is a mix of Pacific Rim and Batman The Animated Series mixed together. Its as awesome as it comes. The OP sounds like Queen's Flash Gordon.

I still think Gurren Lagaan is a greatly executed story, but I feel like the mechs are too goofy. I just recently enjoyed Code Geass, too- but as soon as the mechs learn to fly the battles lose sooo much weight/catharsis. All of the mechs in Akito the Exiled are excellent. I might even get my first kit...

In all honesty, Gunbuster should be higher on the list.
Without Gunbuster, there's no guarantee that Gainax could of produced Eva and it's longevity would of lead to Gurren Lagann.
IBO, Unicorn and 00 are easily some of the best series

There's so many different individuals Seasons with their own characters and their own Lore it's so much freaking fun not to mention the Gundams themselves are fucking amazing like seriously they are crazy they are insane and I absolutely love them Gundam isn't just the best anime mech franchise it's one of the best anime franchises of all time no questions asked!!!!!! Super Robot Wars OG is actually nearly Gundam level in world-building. ...And the robots? Neo Granzon can destroy a galaxy in one shot, the Astranagant can wipe things out of existence by erasing their time, SRX's HTB-Cannon can blow up the sun, _several_ mecha either shoot gravity beams or condensed black holes, Granteed contains the soul of a god...
It makes sense that Gundam would be number one, and I haven't seen any of the anime, but Gurren Lagann is the BEST ANIME in the whole UNIVERSE!!!

After watching... wow watch mojo I'm shocked! I was expecting that overrated Evangelion to be #1, but you actually gave it to Gundam! I would of had Full Meter Panic in the top 10 though... so good!

Me too, since WM is wrong, Mazinger is the true daddy of Giant Robot/Mecha. It started in 1972 while Gundam is aroun mid-late 70s.
Mazinger Z. Getter Robo. Zambot 3 and Daitarn 3. Kotetsu Jeeg. Giant Robo.
I choose to believe these sorts of shows aren't on lists like this because they've been so integrated into mecha (and anime as a whole) that they come of as derivative and cliche despite being the ones that set the standard.
The alternative is just too sad to consider.
Just because Mazinger Z isn’t on this list doesn’t mean that it’s not a good anime. It just means that these ones are just better because it doesn’t matter whether it is The Godfather of Mecca anime to make it the best.

Gundam is the original _real robot_ anime. ...Super robot, though, is Mazinger Z. The latter was made in 1972 or so, while Gundam is from 1979.

No love for OG Supa Robo, Mazinger? Real Robo genre started first, but likes of Gurren Lagan wouldn't have happened without Go Nagai's Mazinger, Getter 3, Iron Jeeg and many more.
It's sad how few people know that Gurren Lagann is just Getter Robo minus axes.
Actually, the super robot genre came first. Both Mazinger Z and Getter Robo predate Gundam by at least five years.
