      I agree. This caliber probably will stick around vs all the other shot fat cartridges introduced in the half decade I’m guessing because it fits in an AR…BUT with a slower twist so varmint and predator hunters can use light bullets accurately and extremely flat shooting . Exact opposite twist of what it’s designed for. The paper punching crowd imo is a small niche and don’t use ARs. It would be great in super light bolt gun with a slow twist. The gen Z croud that played video games and want to be snipers crowd this is marketed for will fade...and already is. It will make a great usable hunting round with a slow twist one day when someone reinvents the wheel with a slower twist and re names it something else.

      You sir just made my day. I've been saying this for a while. Personally I'd say the only new round that has had a major success is the 6.5cm. The 350legend seems to be slowly gaining popularity only because of the niche with the straight wall states. I'm still iffy if it will become mainstream. Everything else is exactly what you said, an experiment.

    I wanted to love the 224 Valkyrie but I got so aggravated with mine not getting the velocities i was wanting or the accuracy so i sold my dies brass and barrel and washed my hands of it entirely. Then i heard of a wildcat cartridge that was getting popular with long range 22cal guys the 22 Grendel and decided to put together a rifle and had some dies made. It was everything i wanted and couldnt get from the Valkyrie. Its pretty freakin cool yall are going to make ammo and hopefully mainstreaming a phenomenal cartridge.

      This may be the advantage of the 22ARC. Grendel is based off of the 220 Russian, which is also the base case for the 22 PPC and 6mm PPC (both of which are popular bench rest cartridges since they are so easy to load for). The 22 ARC should fall in the same category. It's basically a modified 22 PPC. Maybe a better way to say it is that is a NEW 22 PPC. Like the Valkyrie, I doubt the ARC has enough additional capacity to push the 80gr bullets fast enough to make them measurably better than a 223 Rem with a 75gr ELD at 2950 fps.

      @@nospam3409good breakdown. If loading the 223 Remington to CIP specification (62ksi), you can push this bullet as a single loader to the same velocity as this factory ammunition for the 22ARC.
      I push 60gr Hammer hunters (all copper) to 3300fps from a 20" barrel using a couple tenths more N133 than VihtaVuori's book data gives for lead core 60 grainers. VV's book is SAAMI spec (55ksi), btw.

    They are both shooting ,224 bullets. So if you are comparing apples to apples put the 62 grain Vmatch in the Valkyrie then compare. The 22 ARC looks interesting especially since my 224 Valkyrie only likes the 60gr Hornady V-max load.

  • @kaytod
    @kaytod ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Since both the 224 Valkyrie and the 22 ARC are competing for a similar market and application, I wish the comparison was more between the cartridges than the bullet on the first three minutes of the video. When they do actually mention the apples to apples bullet, I wish they would've elaborated on the advantages/disadvantages of the cartridges. Pressure is one aspect that can be a deciding factor. However, no performance data was given between the two. If the ARC runs the same bullets a bit faster, with less pressure, then that would be a very good point to elaborate on and be a selling point. I wish it had been more informative. The good news is: since this is the same base cartridge as the 6 ARC and the 6.5 Grendel, it will further the conversions on that case over the 6.8/Valkyrie platform.

    • @AN-nt2bz
      @AN-nt2bz ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No data was given because it wasn't sufficient to make the case for the 22 ARC over the 224V. Performance is almost identical and the difference at 1,000 yards isn't enough to matter. This was a very shallow explanation, so my take away is there is no need to waste money on moving to this cartridge.

    • @AN-nt2bz
      @AN-nt2bz ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Based on this video I wouldn't do it. Their explanations were very shallow, and in a side by side comparison (88 grain ELD) they basically boiled down to 22 ARC has a small velocity advantage. My experience with the 224 Valkyrie in the AR Platform has been fantastic. 3/4 inch groups at 100 yds and great performance out to 1,000 yds. It has been baffling to me that the round didn't take off, but I think that had more to do with Bullet performance issues (which were solved) and improperly spec'd chambers.

      Both are fine cartridges! That's one of the points of the 22 ARC - it's SAAMI spec'd to shoot bullets that other cartridges can't without a "custom" faster twist rate. You would need maybe a 1:8 twist to shoot the 62 ELD-VT in the 22-250. That said, you could shoot a less efficient bullet out of the 22 ARC, which would be just fine, but one could say that you would be missing out on one of the major strengths of the 22 ARC. Definitely can take multiple (different) perspectives on it though. We just have to abide by SAAMI.

    Snake oil……there is a difference 22arc = 52k psi and 224V = 55k psi from SAMMi specs for gas guns. This is due to the larger 6.5 bolt head diameter of .441” for ARC vs .422” for Valkyrie.
    If you compare the same bullets you end up with more velocity out of a gas gun with the Valkyrie as you can run it at 3k psi more because the Valkyrie leaves more meat on the locking lugs.
