    This explains why Hornady wasn't putting energy into 6 ARC after everyone bought the barrels and bolts. Brass production was virtually nonexistent forever and brass production from other manufacturers was late to market, even while demand was skyrocketing. At this time, I think Starline is the only manufacturer other than Hornady that produces aftermarket 6 ARC brass. It sucks that the products are pushed out there with over-the-top hype and in many cases there is very little subsequent production support once everyone buys in, because Hornady is off to the "next big thing." I think I learned my lesson with 6 ARC.

      Yep, the official Hornady video was very long on air and zero hard facts. The 224 Valykie is a recent lesson on jumping onto the "Its New & Better But We Won't Disclose Why" bandwagon. When the 204 Ruger cartridge came out I was looking at stats, owner's accuracy reports, etc. But a big question was on my mind.....does this 204 have any practical advantage over .223 Rem? Answer from several 204 owners was....NO..!!

    Having gone with the 6.5 Grendel over a decade ago, I’ll stick with it! I’ve taken many deer with it and regularly shoot 500 yards at one gallon water jugs. The Hornady 123 gr. SST and 120 gr. Speer Gold dot both have BC’s over .5 with a muzzle velocity of 2,550 fps. This translates into a rifle that performs well out of the AR 15 platform without chewing up brass or bolts!
    Most people have this fantasy of shooting 1,000 yards and can’t shoot a sub 1 MOA group if their life depended on it.

      They have a video explaining the differences, there are benefits to the 22 ARC th-cam.com/video/AHzWxON0SSo/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=HornadyManufacturing

      @@jayjoos5741I mean, technically, yeah. But considering the similarity between the 6.5 Grendal and 6.8 SPC cases, necking both of them down to .22 (ARC using Grendal and Valkyrie using SPC) was always going to result in an incredibly similar cartridge.
      By all accounts, this is looking like another 260 Rem vs. 6.5 CM or 243 Win vs. 6 CM battle. Hornady won against the 260 quite decisively, though not so much against 243, so I guess we'll see if they can do it again.

    I hope hornady uses varget or N140 for load data purposes. That's the biggest drawback with 6 ARC when using an extremely temp stable extruded powder, low velocity due to case capacity. Some of us prefer temp stability over sheer velocity but with 6 ARC/Varget/108gr eld-m bullets it is like shooting .308 w/out the recoil.

    This is a big miss for me just like the 6 ARC was. I don’t do bolt guns because I am not a fudd. The fact that the bolt face is as big as the 6 ARC bolt means short bolt life. They should’ve done a rebated rim so you can use a 556 bolt in an AR. It is why 300 blackout and 6.5 creedmoor took off so well. It literally is a barrel only change in the small frame and large frame AR platforms respectively. Not a bolt, magazine and barrel.

    • @friendly7empest
      @friendly7empest ปีที่แล้ว

      You would still want a new bolt. Some AR10s for example, need another bolt for 6.5cm with a smaller firing pin hole. Hence the JP high pressure bolts. I’d honestly like to try 6 ARC or 5.56 ARC.

    • @friendly7empest
      @friendly7empest ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Forgot my main point. Bolt actions are much more accurate than 99% of ARs out there. The bolts themselves are much stronger too. I understand that everyone and their grandmother that’s 6 feet under has an AR15 that’s sub MOA. That’s until you start shooting multiple 5-10 shot groupings and seeing if it’s actually consistent. Anyone can get lucky and accidentally stack 3 rounds close to each other at 100 yards. Most bolt actions I’ve shot are MUCH more accurate than ARs. Even your typical hunting rifles.

      The bolt face isn't "super weak." It isn't even weak. Yes, it is theoretically weaker than the 5.56 bolt face, but I haven't had any issues with failure there and I haven't heard of any issues in real life or on the bullsh!t internet. Just theoretical talk. If you get 50,000 rounds out of one, and 45,000 rounds out of the other, is the latter "super weak?" The same is true for 6.5 Grendel and ARs chambered in 7.2x39 ("AR-47s"). Yet there are no stories about rampant bolt failures anywhere for those chamberings either. Just the occasional theoretical speculation in online forums. Also, some cartridges burn out barrels quicker than others, yet no one calls those barrels chambered in the hot cartridges "super weak." They are all wear items. Sooner or later they go. 6 ARC and 6.5 Grendel bolts will likely fail sooner than 5.56, but that doesn't mean soon. It's all relative. As for Hornady killing .224V with this (it's probably already dying anyway), why would they care? They don't own the rights to .224V. (My comment here shouldn't be taken as endorsement for this cartridge or any of the others. Just pointing out that the internet a hotbed for misplaced speculation that a lot of people accept as gospel.)
