Greetings from Brazil! He composed an amazing march based on the Brazilian national anthem which I adore. He was definitely an unique character and an astonishing pianist.
There was a documentary on LMG by specialist Robert Offergeld on a UHF TV channel (yes, I've been around a while) some time in the early 80's or possibly late 70's. It would be great if somebody could excavate and post it. Have always been thrilled and delighted by Gottschalk.
What's honestly quite neat is in the videogame Red Dead Redemption 2, there's a part of the game where you're on a riverboat casino, and the pianist is playing Gottschalk!
Beispiel Bernstein: Westside Story. Musikalisch das beste Musical aller Zeiten. Und Coplands Orchesterwerke versprühen geradezu das "Amerika". Was z.B. bei Gottschalks "The Banjo" ebenfalls so signifikant herauszuhören ist.
@@lyricduo thank for this presentation. I have been obsessed with LMG for at least twenty years and I have three biographys about him. In my estimation he is the most American of composers that this country has produced. Again, thank you!
There was a television performance of the "Tropics" Symphony and the Grande Tarentelle conducted by Philippe Entremont by the NOSO sometime in the early 80's. See my above comment.
Thank you for doing this tribute to the amazing Gottschalk.! he deserves more recognition world wide.
This is the great grand father that I never knew. Thank you for this.

...both Berlioz & Chopin were in awe of his pianistic abilities...
Berlioz didn't even play lol. Impressing Chopin is amazing!

Wow! Do you know which piece?

Very interesting thank you very much.
Thank you!
This was very Fascinating!! Thanks:)
Gottschalk led a rather wild and truly 'American' life.

Dead & Co. should do a never ending tour showcasing his work
I have always wondered why the New Orlean Symphony Orchestra does not feature him in their performances.
Yup. You’d think they might program his works at least occasionally. Their “native son.”

Why are there no US or French major feature films about Louis
Gottschalk ?! His whole life was
tailor made for feature films &
historical novels!!!
Louis Gottschalk’s Danses Cubaines, 1840, seem to be 1
of? the 1st! published ragtime music ( without the category label )
In PR, "pasteles" is not a "cake" It's more like a PR style big tamal, it's always wrapped in banana leaf and it's boiled in water for over an hour
👍👍👍⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was so good !!!
