Agreed. People can always watch crappy footage with a good soundtrack, but the opposite isn't really true. I have to admit, the b-roll of them recording each other taking images, was more impressive than the actual footage they were getting of the environment (forrest and snow around 3:04). I think this is the difference between pros who spend majority of their time on the actual project/footage... and pros that specifically do it for youtube/vlogs. It's like 4 hours were spent on b-roll (i know that's what the video is about) and maybe 4 minutes on what they were supposedly actually filming. Not knocking Peter, he's awesome and love his videos....but yeah a bit unrealistic. Very informative though
While I do agree soundtracks are Very important. I personally watch videos at a volume that music is tolerable. Most videographers have no clue about audio, I find. Once you lower the volume of the music to a tolerable level you cannot hear voices at all. This should be the guide line for all audio. If the music blows you away or you can't hear the voices you are doing it wrong! This tutorial is an exact example of poor audio decisions. So it also serves as an example of exactly what not to do with your soundtracks....blow them up .
Audio, and how to get audio, is something I've struggled with. You can make all this original content, but I don't know how to get audio that won't get me sued for using it, whether it's for personal/blog use or for non-profit, I have no clue.

Thanks for this video, B-Roll is so underestimated on TH-cam. I loved how the music kicked in right before transitioning to the montage. Also, how we got shown the environment B Roll right after your friend looked in his camera, it makes it feel like we're there with you looking at what you are seeing. Another example, you putting on the mask makes us think "dope, what's he doing with that mask", so the transition to the smoke isn't random or anything. Westrn Vlogs Yeah because your dopey ass, sorry "dope ass" video is worth taking the "risk" of diverting and being a nuisance to resources that are there to save people's lives. Peter! I had a question about the drone. The Mavic says not to operate below 30°C, what is your idea on this? I want to fly mine, but it's so cold and I'm scared of ruining it! Thoughts?
I THINK you mean 0°C - Yeah I did it anyway. Seemed fine to me. I flew it for a good 15 minutes in roughly -13°C temperature with no issue. I can see the battery draining faster but, operate at your own risk!

YOu ever been doing something and didn't know there was a name for it. THen when someone references it al you have is a blank stare? Yeah, that was me last week not knowing I was shooting B-Roll. Those examples were so wonderful. YOu just upped my (post) production a notch or two.
This is awesome! Thank you! I have been a photographer for the last 14 years and literally just started my video making adventure YESTERDAY! I look forward to seeing all of your videos, this one was amazing!
You just taught me something about my iPhone X that I never bothered to even check out. I completely forgot it was capable of slo-mo and 4K video. I don't often think of it as a camera but, in a pinch, it could come in handy! Thanks!
Tough question. Whenever you shoot B-Roll you are doing at at 60 or 120fps (in your case, 1dx mkii lol) you are slowing it down by 50% or so. But whenever you shoot normal footage you always change your in camera settings back to 24/30 fps or you shoot everything in 60/120fps and convert it to 24fps? I hope it makes sense.
There's no harm in always shooting in 60/120fps but allowing it to just play at normal speed in your edit. When you export the finished edit, it will convert to whatever your export settings are. Obviously you'll use more memory shooting at higher FPS, but that's really about it. TaylorCutFilms said in one of his videos that he always shoots at 120fps. He does really high quality work so if he's doing that, I'd say a lot of the other guys are.
There's really no need for film school when you have awesome videos like this

Hi what external audio recording device are you using and what would you recommend for a budget option for someone who is just starting up ..
I think his Micro is in the description...
I think this is one of the most excellent film tip videos on youtube hands down.
hm... i have a question are you shooting 120fps or 60fps to get that buttery smooth B-Roll?
hm... that means I need to save a lot more money XD, for the love of god I need to be patience
He definitely shoots in 120fps
6:40
240fps
where did you get the smoke from?
Tom Churchill enola gaye amazon
You just taught me something about my iPhone X that I never bothered to even check out. I completely forgot it was capable of slo-mo and 4K video. I don't often think of it as a camera but, in a pinch, it could come in handy! Thanks!
Peter, Can you do a collaboration with Casey?
PH news your wish just got granted
?
Guess what it happened today go and watch that video ✌️❤️
Also consider what camera you have, for example many cameras can't 60fps at as high a resolution as 24fps.
Hey Peter, you are 20 books rolled into 1 for 11 minutes and 39 seconds. Thank you buddy. I'm learning a lot.
Hey, the smoke bomb link goes nowhere. what brand do you use?
idk
