Don't connect the piggyback fuse to the one shown in this video. The radio remains on for a period after the ignition is turned off, the length of which depends if the car has been running. Instead use Fuse 22, which is the DRLs. Middle row, 5th fuse in from the left (10A). This will ensure radio goes off immediately with ignition 👍 Other than that, great tutorial 😊

How do you add the powercable with the fuse to the harness? Just cut the red wire and add the fused wire to the red on the side of the harness going into the radio?

It's also noteworthy that when you disconnect the 2 button blocks and then turn on the ignition the airbag warning turns on in the dashboard. This can only be reset by the dealer or garage.
So before you test the new radio, connect the 2 button blocks.
I tested the new radio before I built it all back so when everything was built back I had the airbag led on. Took me a while to find out why.

Thanks very much, that was really helpful! I watched the whole video and did my radio upgrade step by step.
But I actually connected the 12v ignition cable to the 12v permanent connection, because I didn't like that the radio shut down itsself when ignition is off, for example when waiting at the railroad crossing or hearing music while standing around. Now I need to switch it off and on by hand but I don't mind.
The original radio is controlled via can bus for the comfort functions: switches on with ignition, it remains on until you pull out the key, then it shuts off itsself. But then you can still switch it on manually. There's an adapter on ebay which unfortunately costs 50€ which wasn't worth vor me right now for this functionality.

Thanks for the video mate, super helpful. I’ve got a couple questions if you‘re able to help - you recommended to wire up the new stereo via fuse box. Why is it alright for the stock stereo to bypass this but not an aftermarket one? Is it because the stock one auto powers off and this won’t make battery flat? If I bought a stereo that would auto power off could I just stick with the default wiring?
Secondly, if I secure the new stereo in to my Up by securing the cage clips and then clicking the stereo fully into the slot, how would I actually remove it if I ever come to sell the car?
    Cheers!

Regardless of the fascia etc. the buttons don't work even when pulled out of the housing and plugged in.

Fuse box layouts can differ depending on model, year and world region sold so it’s always best to test fuses first.
I would suggest you try the heater blower fuse as that is only live when ignition is on.
Refer to the cars owners manual for you exact fuse location.

The rear trim panels have an array of plastic clips that pop outwards and also go around the seat belts so start at the bottom and slowly work your way around. Most of these cars do not have rear wiring and so you would need to add it from the radio.

      Thanks for your fast response.
Another question: Does it take very long (like 2-6minutes) for your radio to put off after ignition is off, too? Could this be improved by choosing another fuse out of the fusebox? I havent tested it so much, but sometimes the radio doesnt go off at all.

Is you parking assistant audio only?
If so and it uses the cars speakers to beep then with out a adapter it will be silent with a new radio.

@@PJsprojects Hi, just tested on a 2015 car and the beep beep is still there after adding an aftermarket radio. i believe the audio parking assist is wired directly to the speakers somehow. it does not however reduce/mutes the radio/music is playing. i believe that is the after effect of removing the original radio. Excelent video by the way. i moved my way installing it following your instructions and they work like a charm.

You didn't show where you connect the red wire to on the radio.

does this stock stereo have extra ports for a subwoofer ?

    • @PJsprojects
      @PJsprojects  5 ปีที่แล้ว

No none. You could use a pre out converter wired in to the speaker outputs of the original radio.

@@Karl_Burton Odd, I just checked EBay and Amazon and they list hundreds of them. If your struggling and are from the UK I know places like Halfords and B&Q sell them.
