    - Solo Commissars, and even Techpriests can tie up dangerous enemy ranged squads on t1, allowing your squishy Guardsmen to do their work at range
    - When you layer static defence, utilize high ground-low ground, or impassable terrain, so enemy melee units can only target one, and still take fire from the other (Turrets, HWTs, Basilisks, etc.)
    - On t2 always research lasgun range (Satellite Targeting) first, but don't get too excited by the rest, or it will slow down more important stuff (i.e. Priests, Mechanized Command, Sergeatns, etc.)
    - Death Before Dishonor is cheap, fast, and slightly improves hp, besides the morale of Guardsman
    - Nade launchers are boss vs heroes, setup units and hordes; plasma owns SM/CSM/Crons
    - If you're forced do defend main, try to put 1-2 units/models in each garrison, but never fill all 3 slots - you get most value by spreading them between the garrisons (the 'plasma' is dogshit)
    - Mass Chimeras is a legit thing, and hoping in and out of them with your units is must vs some army comps, if you want survive until t3, t4

      Grenades also own SM/CSM/Crons. Plasma is only needed against Very Heavy infantry. Terminators, Obliterators, Crisis Suits.

      @Vesdus ปีที่แล้ว +6

      When garrisoning units the 1st unit mans the lasguns (about 20-25dps to infantry), the 2nd unit mans the plasma (about 12-15dps to infantry) and the 3rd unit mans the heavy bolters (about 25-30dps to infantry).
      ALWAYS garrison 3 builders against infantry. Never 2.
      Against vehicles all the numbers almost the same.

    I have to correct something and it's important to note about the Imperial Guard.
    Garrisoned units don't just 'shoot out of' buildings, they actually man guns inside of the buildings - and Techpriests can also man these guns alone.
    The guns fire in the 4 cardinal directions and can all fire at the same time, dealing max damage. Which means if there's one enemy squad above and one below the manned building they are each taking full damage.
    One garrisoned unit deals damage per second equivalent to 5 Imperial Guardsmen or 2 Space Marines.
    That means garrisoning your builders turns them into killing machines. It protects them and is much more efficient than trying to repair mid-combat.
    A builder garrisoned inside of a listening post can solo a squad of 4 space marines.
    3 units garrisoned inside of an Infantry Command deal damage per second equivalent to one of the Imperial Guard's Heavy Bolter Turrets (which deal more damage than any other team's turrets). The building also has 150% the hitpoints of a Turret, is built in 75% of the time, has medium building armour instead of light, and importantly costs no power to produce.
    There is really no situation in which you want to build an Infantry Command early. The Imperial Guard Command Squad is the worst command unit in the game and the only one that takes up population. It's much better to build an Infantry Command defensively on a forward Listening Post later in the game.
    My build orders for Imperial Guard always involve having all 3 builders at all times, building a Tactica Control first, grabbing grenade launchers and then sergeants on my units while capping points, building listening posts and upgrading them, and then aggressively installing a forward Infantry Command and then Heavy Bolter Turrets.

    • @lukecodz

      do you use grenade launchers even when fighting necrons?

    • @Vesdus
      @Vesdus 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@lukecodz Yes. Grenade Launchers are even more Important than Sergeants or reinforcing the squad because their range means you do not need to engage with enemy squads - and Necron Warriors have notoriously short range with their gauss rifles.
      Grenade Launchers also simply deal more damage than the standard lasguns that guardsman are equipped with.
      In the early-to-mid game there's actually no reason to use Guardsmen in combat if they don't have grenade launchers. They sustain far too many casualties and deal little-to-no damage back. Grenade Launchers allow your guardsmen to stand behind your defenses and still contribute meaningfully to the combat. Otherwise, it is better to station them inside of buildings for defense.
      The rate at which Imperial Guard can train guard squads and can build defenses means you can secure a majority position of the map and then slowly crawl your advantage forward with a line of turrets and infantry commands. They're not built for fighting until they get armored vehicles and even then they seem to be at a disadvantage. They truly are a turtle faction.

      Damn I just tried your strategy and it worked surprisingly well. Usually I just rush my guardsmen into melee and it works half the time. Maybe that’s why I almost never win mp games. 😂

    • @VCC1316
      @VCC1316 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't understand a detail:
      "_The guns fire in the 4 cardinal directions and can all fire at the same time_"
      But if they shoot at one single enemy squad in a single direction, still all the Guardsmen can shoot, or only part of them?
      From the animation it looks like only a subset of the team can shoot.
      Also, do they get any damage at all, or the building absorbs all the damage?

    • @Vesdus
      @Vesdus 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@VCC1316 The guardsmen don't shoot. The guns in the Infantry Command shoot. Think of it like a turret with guns pointing North, East, South, and West.
      There are 3 sets of guns. Lasguns, Plasma guns, and Heavy Bolters.
      When you put a squad of Guardsmen or a Techpriest inside, they man the next set of guns and can shoot in all of the directions at the same time.
      So if there is an enemy squad North of your empty Infantry Command, and an enemy squad south of the Infantry Command, and you put a Techpriest inside, then the lasgun turrets on the North and South sides of the Infantry Command will both begin firing at the squads they can see.
      If you then put a second Techpriest inside, then the Plasma Guns on both the North and South side will begin firing at the enemies they can see.

    I remember when Winter Assault came out and I fell in love with the Guard ever since. RIP to no limit Kasrkins.
    I also like to do 2 guard and a priest. I used to rush to Grenade Launchers and Sentinels for early game. Push to your opposite, pop the Listening Posts and uncap. I would let those units stay assaulting while the Kasrkin and Leman Russ were in production. Still works really well in Soulstorm.
    If you don't kill your opposite, you've crippled their early economy. Good times.

    Huh, i never considered the fast vehicles one, i just tried it and it blew my mind. I never thought garrisoning guardsmen could be so effective for early defense, while waiting to tech up. With 6 chimeras, you could cycle one or two back for repairs or even have a techpriest onboard for emergencies.

      Dont forget the limits on all the effective units asswell, imperial guard can only have TWO!!! leman russ tanks, one kasrkin and one orgryn wich sucks.
      Space only two predators and two terminator squads.
      It was far better beforehand when elite units would just have higher population caps.

      @@Crom_smite_you Have you played Winter Assault? Mass Kasrkin demolish any infantry army by cycling Earthshaker grenades, never mind their ridiculous range and DPS. Hard caps on elite units is totally fair. Though I'm unsure why Eldar still get 3 Warp Spider squads since they unlock earlier than other elite ranged, yet they are stronger.
