I've got to give you MAJOR props for uploading this. Been playing RTS games for well over a decade and a half myself and most games of this scale are supposed to have or at least generally have tier lists. Warhammer is a massive franchise and to my knowledge while the games do not have a particularly big community it IS large enough and this game in particular has tons of mods from what I've heard. Still in the process of clearing all the expansions Campaigns before I can truly delve into it all. Anyways what I'm trying to say here is that I'm amazed a RTS like this has VERY few tier lists. It's not like the factions are that evenly balanced and that especially applies in earlier versions/expansions. Everyone here has presumably played the earlier ones but words cannot describe how much worse the Orcs are in the first version of the game compared to the later ones.
True. As a Necron main, they aren't as OP in Soulstorm compared to Dark Crusade. It really depends on the map and how good the player is. However, I'd say that the Necrons lie in S tier for the Unification mod considering they have a counter for almost everything for all races in the game.. My personal opinion
I love the video! Can we get a tier list of each faction's units? Please! Note: whenever someone makes a tier list of an RTS, just knock down his main race a tier to get the correct tier list 😜
Thanks for that brother. I will do a unit tierlist later at some point, but I will take a bunch of time 😅 Also your comment on putting SM this high might be suited in this case, but I'll let people decide 😅
Glad you liked it brother. I am as of now doing a map-tierlist ft. Jagus. So it's not in the near feature, but it for sure something to do for later, I would be down! 🙂
Something crucial to consider about the matchup grid you are using, is that it isn't filtered by MMR/skill level. Those stats are inflated by thousands of noob games, or noob stomps by experienced players. This is especially prevalent when you consider SM and IG, which are by far the most popular factions of newcomers casually trying out the game. A more useful grid to go on, would be looking at the 'High rating' filter
Hey Kez, thanks for watching! I do agree that the stats have issues, which I mention serveral times in the video. I did look at the high rating one before recording, but sometimes the sample sizes are so small over several years, that those stats can also be missleading aswell. Also those stats does include outlier players, which I mention why I try to avoid. The stats where also there to supplement my own knowledge, but im sure there are holes in that knowledge from time to time, and so the stats did potentially get overused those moments. Thanks for the feedback brother!
@@Duzzyminister I agree completely with your tier list. Maybe I put the Necrons higher, but as the statistics showed: Dark Eldar - Necron is a matchup in favor of the Necrons, which is probably why I have problems with them.
I was a bit skeptical since this Tier List is not bad and his reasoning makes sense. But after playing as the Necrons for awhile I honestly agree 100%. For how easily accessible they are. The Flayed Ones are busted. Not only are they great tanks but they can kill almost anything on their own. They have no moral so these things will always fight at 100%. You have one or two fully reinforced squads of them backed up by an assortment of other Necrons and you're not gonna lose most fights even if they outnumber you. The only fights you will lose is if they have a lot of abilties prepped. But since you can spawn them in anywhere on the map it's easy to replace them. Necron teleportation is also nice in that regard. The Nightbringer is very powerful on its own thanks to that lifesteal but if you have it fight alongside an Awakened Monolith I genuinely don't think there is a single fight that you can lose. The Awakened Monolith on its own is like somewhere within Top 2 or 3 units in the game. But if it fights with a Necron Lord and an army. Everything it comes into contact with is getting obliterated. The Eldar are probably only winning that much against them because they stop the Necrons before they can reach that point. Even if you come across an army that can stalemate it for a bit. It will be overwhelmed because the Monolith can create units mid combat and the Necron can place turrets anywhere on the map. I think Necrons have way too much utility and versatility to be in C. I can easily see how they aren't S or even A. But they are definition of a B Tier faction if I've ever seen one.
@@mee091000 Hey bro, thanks for your input. I could in theory nitpick your points, but it would be kinda unfair, since you're overall making some good points! I will admit that seeing this comment section, is making me second guess myself (that's only good tho). But since my criterias included the map-meta, it was hard for me to give them a high rating. There is simply too many maps that they suffer on (QT, SOE, MOM, OR etc.) And while Necrons might have a good time on TE, FM or maybe BR and look (sometimes) super broken, other times they legit look like a useless race, and all of that comes down to the map. Few freaky players like Bloody Monster will ofc ignore all of these cons, but as I explain in my video early, he is an outlier. I will say tho, that if I made the tierlist today, I would put Necrons on B-tier. I guess you learn somthing everyday 😊
From the 5% to the 60% is a fine margin area for capability to execution. Top 5% are too good at the game. their ability to play the game to its maximum potential will make Reapers get nerfed 15 times in a row, while they become completely unusable for the casual/even pretty good player (I am looking at you StarCraft 2, I am looking at you...) While anything above the 60% margin (heck it might just be 50%) ends up being too bad and too casual to understand or grasp basic concepts that would allow them to play optimally through knowledge rather than skill. (Sending in tanks without infantry, sending in infantry because they got anti-tank capability without sending in other units to support them against all the non-tank stuff.)
You say that the space marine has a low win rate because beginners play for him, but if you switch to "All seasons" and "only high rating" then there the win rate will be at the level of the battle sisters, whom you moved to trash. The strength in the late game is bad because the other races know about it and dream of destroying the space Marines as quickly as possible. And I would put necron in the place of a space marine, that is, on "B", because they have a powerful t 1.5 rush, a special economy, simple management, the most powerful mage hero in the form of a lord, the strongest skinner paratroopers, universal tanks in the form of destroyers, the strongest anti-tech infantry, a Monolith that is the strongest t4 in the game.
You are entitled to your opinion, but I am pretty sure you have not seen the whole video 😊 But yes I would put necons up in the B-tier aswell, even tho I disagree with some of the your resonans.
i do not agree with the assessment of the dark Eldar vehicles being weak, by any means. Dark Eldar vehicles are the fastest in the game, and it's passengers also contribute to the vehicle's firepower. A raider can jump into a group and pop demoralizing AoE and deploy incubi or mandrakes to rip foes to shreds or warriors to blast apart the scattered forces while the raider jumps away to being more fighters into the fray. Their speed and versatility fit a very specific playstyle that forces you to play aggressive at the start. it's certainly not for everyone.

Dark Eldar is a top 3-4 race in the game, you will have a hard time finding who think DE is lower than top 4. Some of the best players in the world even consider DE not to be in tournament cause they are so broken tier 1. It's so bad to the point that I had few high level pros telling me that I should not allow DE in the upcoming tournament that me and Jagus are hosting soon. Now the AV problem is legit, but it does not take away the fact that they have vehicles early game that no one else has. I was torn on putting sisters on D or C, but I ended up putting them on D-tier cause I would consider them the weakest race. I do know the leader bug, it is widely known at this point that it is possible, however bugabuse is a no go, and no player should be able to do so, therefore I do not consider that. Yes celestians are strong, but sadly does not add up for all the weaknesses of the race. Thanks for your opinion and input tho
I totally agree that Eldar are S tier. However Necrons are definitely A tier. Lol have you never had an entire Necron army teleport into your base with multiple Monoliths and the Deceiver? Oh and you can't stop it because the Lord can teleport at a silly point in your base?
Hey mate, thanks going in and put your takes out there, feel free to disagree 😊 I would be inclined to disagree tho. I would without all external factors put Necrons on B-tier. Too many maps are unplayable and too many sus matchups. Even your late game scenario has never happend to me, only one monolith and deciever, and in those cases I blow them up with Landraiders, terminators and pure firepower. Multiple monoliths usually never happens unless they bug abuse or you're trolling and letting necrons just somehow build 2 or more tier 4 monoliths. 😅 Even if they got to tier 4, IG and SM (just to mention some) beats them strait up tier 4. The one disclaimer is, that I could imagine some crazy stuff like that happening on team maps, and there we might have a different conversation 👍
You must not have played many good Necron players (when you could do it lol). The base teleport was the end game goal for Necrons. The Deceiver was there to attempt to mind control any defenders/waste their time. The rest of the army usually had enough time to ruin a base before enough defenders came. Plus the Resurrection Orb meant they had to be wiped out twice but also left a permanent threat in your base. The monolith thing, all you had to do was summon one outside of combat as it would take 90% damage after timing out then heal up. I used to use this playstyle to 1vs3 many times. Remember, basic Warriors were free so they coukd also easily rush.
@KunDziki remember that the Necron Warriors are free to produce so in the long run they will out grind you. Plus Necrons will always build additional Monoliths so that wont stop them upgrading. At best you'll distract them or temporarily slow them down. Throwing units into a meat grinder is exactly what a good Necron player wants as they will pretty much never lose and it will cost their enemy way more resources to play into than they need to spend.
I love how when you get to tau you get so hyped saying that a good tau player slaps people around. And then shit all over them for the entire section 😂 I wish you whould have talked a bit more about the late game from factions. And drew more comparisons to other factions in terms of power spikes. Like when you say chaos late game is good, i am not getting what does good mean? And what does okay late game mean? All of this come from a perspective of a newbie by the way. Maybe as a veteran i whould understand were you are getting at. I just wanted to know wich factions had a super strong late game, and now i am still left a bit questioning. I loved the video though and that you whould go into extra detail about specific faction/map matchups. I hope you make another video talking about factions, aimed at new players like me.
I watched this on 1.75x speed because i feel you soeak a little slow for my taste (not a bad thing, you ennunciate well which is what enablws this anyways) but the background music is really annoying lol. That being said i dont like music on 1x speed either. Just thought id make this perspective known Really like the content would love to see more.
@Duzzyminister may I ask a question please? In late 2024 what race would you advice to go in a massive 4v4 and also in a free for all if I pretty much know all the races a bit? In other words, what's best in a massive battle where you can reach final tech and units etc?
I am not an expert on team games, but I would for sure recommend IG, Tau, Eldar, Ork and even SM if we're talking final tech. Tau and Eldar is regarded very highly in team games, Orks too. SM and Nec are not bad either. It's mainly up to your own preference. But my ranking would be; 1. Eldar 2. Tau 3. IG 4. Ork 5. SM 6. NEC 7. CSM 8. SOB 9. DE This ranking however will change rapidly depending on the map, sometimes SM is super broken and Ork a bit useless, or CSM might be sleeper strong etc. I would not recommend DE or SOB or even CSM (if we're talking super late game) Remember tho I am not an expert on big teamgames, and I could be wrong on some few things 😊

Hey mate, thanks going in and put your takes out there, feel free to disagree 😊
I would be inclined to disagree tho.
Necrons feel like watching my grandma go upstairs
@@MALKAVIANsrle11 obviously you never played vs a good Necron player 😂
@KunDziki remember that the Necron Warriors are free to produce so in the long run they will out grind you. Plus Necrons will always build additional Monoliths so that wont stop them upgrading.
At best you'll distract them or temporarily slow them down. Throwing units into a meat grinder is exactly what a good Necron player wants as they will pretty much never lose and it will cost their enemy way more resources to play into than they need to spend.
I love how when you get to tau you get so hyped saying that a good tau player slaps people around. And then shit all over them for the entire section 😂
I wish you whould have talked a bit more about the late game from factions.
I think TAU is the best
I watched this on 1.75x speed because i feel you soeak a little slow for my taste (not a bad thing, you ennunciate well which is what enablws this anyways) but the background music is really annoying lol. That being said i dont like music on 1x speed either.
Just thought id make this perspective known
Really like the content would love to see more.
Need a dow2 retribution tier list now
@Duzzyminister may I ask a question please? In late 2024 what race would you advice to go in a massive 4v4 and also in a free for all if I pretty much know all the races a bit? In other words, what's best in a massive battle where you can reach final tech and units etc?
For some context, most of the other players will play space marines
I am not an expert on team games, but I would for sure recommend IG, Tau, Eldar, Ork and even SM if we're talking final tech. Tau and Eldar is regarded very highly in team games, Orks too. SM and Nec are not bad either. It's mainly up to your own preference. But my ranking would be;
1. Eldar
2. Tau
3. IG
4. Ork
5. SM
6. NEC
7. CSM
8. SOB
9. DE
This ranking however will change rapidly depending on the map, sometimes SM is super broken and Ork a bit useless, or CSM might be sleeper strong etc.
I would not recommend DE or SOB or even CSM (if we're talking super late game)
Remember tho I am not an expert on big teamgames, and I could be wrong on some few things 😊
@@Duzzyminister thanks a million!!!
