  • In Greece, many families are particularly affected by the consequences of the financial crisis.
Greece has a found a way to pay ist debts. However, many Greek families don’t know where the money for their rents is to come from. The economy is in ruins. Often only welfare organisations save Greek citizens from a life in poverty.

I am German and have lived in Greece for almost 2 years, I love this country and his people and that's why it hurts in my heart when I see how people live there.I was in many countries but nowhere I meet people who were more hospitable than the Greeks.I have never felt strange in this country and I hope that everything will get better for these people. If I look at this family then I look into the past, that's how I got to know and love these people- family, lovable with a big heart.

There are many more ''powerful'' countries that sadly find our situation very convenient. I'm saddened to say that Germany is also one of those countries...of course that is not meant as a grudge against German people, I wouldn't want anyone to take it that way either. People do not always represent the actions of their governments (Greeks can especially relate to that lol). Governments can also misrepresent some actions to their people, dilute the truth, make them believe that what they do is right. That way they can be sure that things like sympathy will not get in their way..
Our own government is also unshamefully corrupt and near sighted.
My belief is that we're nearing the tipping point though, things are bound to change.
Let's hope that this change will come before our culture's destruction...

This is just one of the many stories of families that used to be middle class but are now struggling just to house themselves and families.
Do you seriously think that if the ''middle class'' barely holds itself together like that there wouldn't be any homeless people that struggle just to find food?

Their infulence in art, architecture, mathematics, science, philosophy is what made the rest of the world rich and that's what really counts. Don't forget about the Olympics too. Rosalina 90 The Greeks invented democracy. The responsibility and power in a democracy sits with the people. The Greeks ELECTED the Governments who offered 'something for nothing' and permitted and participated in the corruption and tax avoidance that lead them into this position.
That's not to say I don't feel a huge amount of sympathy for the Greek people who are suffering now - but what happens if the rest of the EU says "OK Greece, we will foot even more of the bill for the cultural failings of your country"? The answer is, it won't change - and it has to change. I just wish the EU would do more to encourage companies to invest in bringing jobs so that the Greek people can work their way out of this.

"really" ?? Who cares if this family is Greek or not, poverty is shown around every corner of this globe, the point is .. what will be done about it..it seems to be getting worse and worse. Middle class people who once had health insurance and worked a good job, able to feed their family.. are now poor and the poor are now destitute, homeless. I dont see it getting better at all in any country, state or city. I have a friend that just bought a home, I was excited for her. I have the same opportunity to buy a home but at this time I wouldn't buy a home at all, with the economy in California ? People are losing their jobs and home's left and right.
