I wonder if the Greek Govt. also checks for illegal immigrants working in those places.Or for illegal immigrants selling trinkets from a blanket in the streets. Doesn't that count as a form of tax evasion?
In the last 10 years being in holiday in Greece I think I got probably 5 receipts in total. Tax evasion is not something new in Greece as this film suggest. It was wrong back then not to do these checks and it is wrong to do them now if you know what I mean.
perhaps there's a law they have to be numbered for each day. if they issue a receipt numbered 32, it gives you an idea how many they issued for the entire day. i am american so i am just guessing.

Drop the tax on consumption to allow for for small business to grow and have easy forms of credit to help small business. Reform tax collection at the personal and corporate level, while reducing the size of government, increase government investment in infrastructure, and launch impartial anti corruption campaign. Also stop bailing out the large banks. If they think they are too big to let fail than they are too stupid to exist and will keep making horrible financial investment.
Many people want to run shops and bars because they're rather straight-forward to run. You buy, and you sell what you bought. However, there are often too many people who wants to do this because of how simple it is, and then you get high competition and business owners do poorly. The businesses may blame the taxes, but businesses in other countries manage to go by with high taxes, so their fault is really that they don't run efficient businesses. You can't expect the government to subsidize your waste, so this business deserves to die, and the person who runs it must find work that others actually want, need and can pay for.
