Every member of that band is so talented because singing is 1 thing but harmonizing that's a totally different ball game

They have been my favorite band since 89 They took a long hiatus when grunge ruled the world they got back together and released a album in 2008 and have toured on and off till now. With various side projects along the way. I’ve never given up on them. They always deliver. I tell everybody they are the best 4 guys you will see on stage. Amazing live performance. High energy. Super underrated. I think if they would’ve been late 70’s early 80’s we’d be comparing them to Queen Beatles stones and Zeppelin. Van Halen would be an afterthought. In my opinion

...by the way, great reaction. It seems that you were one of those that never got to see who this band REALLY was back in the day. Everyone thought they were writing all songs like "More Than Words". But, they had all kinds of kick ass songs back then. For examples of good stuff on past albums -- on your own, consider listening to a few of these: "Cupid's Dead," "Comfortably Dumb", "Star", "Cynical", "Hip Today", "He Man Woman Hater", "Run", "Decadence Dance", "Get the Funk Out".
Yes, I definitely was one of the ones who though More Than Words was what they were all about. I fell into the trap. Thank you for the older song suggestions. I will be going through their back catalogue for sure.
There's an interview with Nuno where the guy interviewing him tells him he used to work at a record store and Pornograffiti was the most returned album cause older women would come in to buy it cause of More than Words. He'd try to warn them that it was not their normal kind of stuff, they wouldn't listen then a few days later they'd be back trying to return it lol

I always felt they were very under-rated. Theyve only gotten better with age. They were together for like 6 years (dont remember the exact # of years). The original drummer, Paul Geary retired to become a producer. Gary did a stint with Valen Halen, and Nuno has toured with Rihanna.
They did a 12 minute medley of Queen songs at the concert at Wembley Stadium for the tribute to Freddie Mercury. I HIGHLY recommend watching that. It's on TH-cam.
Nuno had a great solo album called Schizophonic back around 96...it's still one of my favorites. Very good stuff.
Gonna add that to my list of things to track down and listen to.
Also, check his band Mourning Widows as well as Population 1.

There is clip here on YT where Nuno Bettencourt performs a cover of Heart's Barracuda. Nancy Wilson joins him. I guess Ann had other obligations, but the vocalist who fills in for her nails it. It is a nice treat...urge you to check it out. Enjoyed your reaction. Isn't it great to look forward to a release of straight-up rock? The track list looks like there may be some ballads also. Nuno was raised with a lot of sibilings who had eclectic tastes in music. He was like a sponge soaking up all the sounds. That is why you get ballads, funk-infused barn burners and rockers like they have released so far. These songs also happen to be the first three songs on the vinyl release. Glad I found you your channel. Thanks for the work you put into it.

The albums " Pornografitti", " Waiting for the Punchline", and "3 Sides to Every Story" are some of the best rock n roll music ever put on vinyl....the band easily gets average listeners confused tho bcoz of songs like " More than Words" or " Hole Hearted", but it's.only bcoz the band is so very diverse, and, imho, has never written a bad song....they are an elite and magical live band....I kind of always called them the rock band Queen of America bcoz of their great diversity and styles. This return they are making I feel they will get there just due.....Gary has ALWAYS been a great singer, but bcoz of VH, people are just now finding out..

This is turning into the most incredible "RE-BIRTH"' in music history...I was into this band from day 1...seeing Bill & Ted was all I needed to be a fan for life. I'll never understand why Night Ranger never broke bigger either...if most people only know Sister Christian then they are seriously missing out on another great hard rockin band...check out some Night Ranger also kind sir...WOO HOO!
@@Pianodean fortunately I had the luxury of listening to You Can Still Rock in America and Don’t Tell Me You Love Me before hearing Sister Christian, so I successfully avoided associating Night Ranger with just one song. Now I’m glad to know Extreme can rock too!

@@RewindReliveReview The Melbourne show was fantastic, and I got to meet the boys too because my wife got me a VIP/backstage experience as a gift :) Unbelievable how good they are, and STILL touring every night.
I saw them in 2008 in a small club venue after their last album was released…I took a buddy who only knew “ more than words” and was wondering why we were there ….first song they play a” pile driver” hammering away … Nuno proceeded to rip the place apart with unbelievable playing ….my buddy was blown away ….” I had no idea” ….you can see that same show on TH-cam …..Extreme “take us alive” live in Boston ..their home town …2008….recording quality is very good …they go through their whole catalog…watch that you’ll be up to speed

They've never break up i guess, just didn't produced so many albums. But the guitarist, Nuno, has been quite active playing, collaborating and contributing to/with some events and top artists.
They've all had various side projects, Nuno with Mourning Widows and some others, Pat with his own solo stuff and album he did with Jason Bieler as part of Super TransAtlantic in 2000, and Gary with Hurtsmile and Van Halen, though I know I'm missing some other projects between the three. I don't think they ever officially broke up, more like they just have taken a couple of long hiatuses.
That was a helluva hiatus! Glad their back now and glad I get to discover them!
I love it when people who fell into the "More than words" trap discover that Extreme has always been much more than that 30+ years later. The Pornografitti album shows a very broad range of what they can do. If you thought they were "More than Words," imagine what people would've thought if they heard "When I First Kissed You" - listen, and you'll see what I'm talking about! Lol! Gary has a much broader vocal range than people know. Glad to see people other than longtime Extreme fans discovering & appreciating their music now! Haven't been this excited about a new album in awhile!

Great video! Just found you tonight. As a long time Extreme fan, I've always felt they were marketed wrong. The songs that made it big for them were a very small part of the music they produce. This song here... this is Extreme at their finest. A funk metal band at heart, with jazz and blues influences, also EVH was Nuno's idol. The diversity that these guys can achieve on one album is astonishing. These first three songs are all bangers. Nuno is in the master class of guitar players and has been for 30 years. Peace!

The band broke up really only at the time when Gary was in Van Halen. However, they have taken a few long breaks over the years. And, this is their first album in 15 years. The guitarist, Nuno Bettencourt, has been Rihanna's guitarist for years now.

If Hole Hearted and More than Words are all you have heard to this point, you have an AMAZING audio ride left to unpack! I have followed these guys sine 1989 when I first heard "Mutha" on the radio. I have EVERY song burned into my skull. I personally like Extreme more than Van Halen as a band.
That was the case at the time of this reaction, however since then I’ve put out a few more reactions to extreme songs, heard the entire Six album (which is awesome !!) and I am currently going back and checking out their previous releases. And yes, it is an amazing experience!!
Also look up Mourning Widows, another project by Nuno with his brother.

I believe Nuno left under good circumstances, then Gary did the VH thing and they finally got back together. That's the nutshell version lol.
